1 EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Job Line: LIBRARIAN I Temporary, Part-time Starting Pay: $23.85/hour Application Deadline: Monday, December 30, 5pm THE COMMUNITY The City of Murrieta, located in southwest Riverside County, incorporated under the general laws of the State of California on July 1, 1991 and currently supports a population of over 100,000 residents. While offering affordable housing and high quality schools, the City represents a blend of dynamic growth amid the traditional values of a historic rural community dating back to the 1890's. Every resident and employee of the City has the opportunity to be an integral part in shaping the Murrieta of today, and, more important, the Murrieta of tomorrow. SELECTION PROCEDURE All applications will be screened on completeness, education, training, and experience. Those applicants possessing the most desirable qualifications will be invited to participate in the selection process. The Human Resources Manager, or designee, may specify the eligible candidates to participate in the examination process or any part thereof. All candidates participate in the process at their own expense. Must be willing to work nights and weekends. The POSITION Under direct supervision, performs routine to complex professional librarian work of a varied nature, including reader s advisory and reference services, materials selection and other collection development tasks, cataloging, web maintenance and providing general library services, programs and instruction to all age groups utilizing print and non-print resources. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The City is seeking an individual with the following capabilities: Assesses library customers needs and advises them in making effective use of library resources and services Provides reference service and instruction to library customers of all ages using print and non-print resources Reviews, evaluates and makes suggestions for: print and non-print collection purchases; adding donated materials to the collection; or deleting out-dated or worn items from the Library s collection Maintains special files, bibliographies, collections and resources both in print and non-print formats May plan and conduct library programs and tours for all age groups Classifies and catalogs print and non-print resources with direction from the Librarian II or above May plan and participate in community outreach events and related programs as assigned Represents the Library in meetings with special interest groups, school related groups, and County and City committees Prepares oral and written reports, statistics and materials of a general nature Assists in the overall organization of library-related print and non-print resources, including web page maintenance Creates program flyers and other marketing displays in print, 3-D, or online Participates in the development of overall strategic and technology planning for the library affecting its services, resources and programs

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Knowledge of: Theory, principles and practices of library services, organizations and procedures; Books, authors, and reference resources in a variety of subject areas and formats for a variety of age groups; Research techniques using print and non-print resources, including the Internet; Operation of library-related and office-related computer software applications and equipment; Internet tools, applications, techniques, practices and resources; Collection development, including book, media and database selection and collection maintenance; Cataloging and classification procedures for varied formats and materials; Principles and practices of providing excellent customer service and generating and maintaining positive public, volunteer and co-worker relations. Ability to: Assess library customer needs and provide accurate reference information and/or referral; Plan and implement specialized programs and perform outreach services; Classify and copy catalog a wide range of books, media and special collections, using both manual and automated systems; Establish and maintain positive, productive, and effective working relations with a variety of library customers, staff, volunteers, City staff, Friends and other community groups; Work effectively with difficult customer interactions; Prepare and maintain accurate records, files, statistical information, reports and correspondence both in print and electronically; Operate a personal computer and other office technology; effectively utilizing software applications used both by the City and the Library; Learn new technologies and software applications, pertinent to public library services and operations and implement them in the workplace; Contribute to a successful team effort. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from an American Library Association accredited university with a Master s degree in Library Science (MLS) or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university with substantial coursework in Library Science already completed. Incumbent must continue coursework, progressing to the completion of the requirements toward and MLS degree. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must be willing to work nights and weekends. Successful completion of an extensive background investigation and a preemployment physical with drug screen are required. Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a Class C California driver license and a satisfactory driving record. BENEFITS NA - THIS IS A PART-TIME, NON-BENEFITED POSITION.
