2 THE EVENT On Monday, August 11th, 2014, Boston Bruins forward and two-time Stanley Cup Champion, Shawn Thornton, will host his annual Putts & Punches for Parkinson s Golf Tournament at Ferncroft Country Club in Middleton, MA. This fundraising event will kick off with a casual lunch and celeb long drive competition, featuring some of Shawn s teammates and celebrities from the sports and entertainment world, followed by 18 holes of golf. The day will conclude with a cocktail reception, dinner, awards ceremony & auctions. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Shawn Thornton Foundation, The Boston Bruins Foundation and the American Parkinson Disease Association. 2

5 THE FOUNDATION Since moving to Boston in 2007, Shawn has taken on a very active role in the community, becoming a fan favorite of many local residents. He is no stranger to public or media appearances and is extremely involved in the charitable world. After losing his grandmother to a 14 year battle with Parkinson s and hearing the touching stories of so many cancer patients and their families during his hospital visits, Shawn was inspired to take the next step in his charitable efforts. He founded The Shawn Thornton Foundation with the mission to help cure life-threatening diseases, specifically Parkinson s and cancer. The Foundation will work towards this mission by raising awareness, funding innovative research and helping to relieve the burden and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. 5
