3 The Swedish Gas Technology Centre Founded in 1990 Office in the southern part of Sweden, Malmö 5 employees, annual turn-over (2012) 1,8 MEUR Owners: The Swedish Gas Association, some bigger energy companies with an interest for gas and the Swedish TSO

10 Limited national gas grid Nynäshamn (LNG) Göteborg Falkenberg Helsingborg x 2 Denmark (pipeline) Lidköping (LBG) Laholm/Båstad The gas corresponds to approx. 3 % of the total energy supply. Biogas injected at 8 different locations.

11 Swedish visions and goals The Swedish Gas Industry s visions are % biomethane in the vehicle gas in % biomethane in the gas grid in 2050 Fossil independent vehicle fleet in 2030 & fossil free vehicle fleet in 2050, through the following measures: - Needs for transports - Energy efficient vehicles - Proportion of electricity and bio-fuels

13 The bio-fuel potential in Sweden 20 TWh bio-fuels in ( 6 TWh biofuels in ), out of which: TWh is estimated to consist of biomethane and bio- DME, out of which 7-8 TWh is produced via biomass gasification In order to realize this potential, a variety of new short- and longer-term economic/political instruments needs to be introduced. 19 Conclusions Great interest for biomass gasification in Sweden for enabling the vision of a fossil independent vehicle fleet in 2030 SGC initiates and works to initiate and coordinate R & D projects in the area so that technological development can take another leap forward The national biofuel potential is estimated to around 20 TWh (2030) Great need for a variety of short- and long terms politic-economic incentives so the biofuel potential also become a reality
