1 Module 5: Mes Choses Lesson 5:00 La Culture Can you name 4 facts about shopping in Paris? 1) 2) 3) 4) Lesson5:01 Le verbe avoir avoir = to have J ai (I have) Singlar Tu (You have) Il (He has) Elle (She has) On [One has, we have (informal)] Plural Nous (We have) Vous (You have) (You plural or formal when referring to older people or people you do not know very well or higher hierarchy) Ils [They have (masculine or mixed)] Elles [They have (feminine)] Helpful Hints: When we make the forms of avoir negative, since all forms begin with a vowel, we will begin the negation with n' o Tu n as pas de frères. o (Please write another example of this here.) If the sentence is, we will use "de" instead of "un", "des," de la, du, or de l. We cannot have anything but "de" or "d' " after "pas."

2 Did you notice? There are many expressions that use avoir in French, but we use to be in English. Can you list 5 examples? 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Stay Tuned more on these expressions at the end of the module Review Can you fill in these charts with the correct form of each verb? Aller = Je Tu Il, Elle, On Nous Vous Ils, Elles Être = Je Tu Il, Elle, On Nous Vous Ils, Elles Avoir = Je Tu Il, Elle, On Nous Vous Ils, Elles Take some time to practice with avoir and La Lecture in the lesson.

Be sure to pronounce the final consonants in the feminine forms of,,,, etc. Since these are adjectives, remember that they have to agree in and in with the nouns they describe.
