2 Bobby Dodd Institute (BDI) helps people with disabilities gain the dignity and security of work through job training and permanent employment. Each year we equip people with disabilities and disadvantages with skills to enter the workforce and gain self-sufficiency. Corporate supporters of our mission are showcased during our signature annual event, Breakfast with Champions, which celebrates community leaders and the achievements of our clients. Our leadership sponsors also receive recognition and marketing opportunities during the year through our other events, website, and publications. On March 2, 2016, BDI will host more than 400 attendees for Breakfast with Champions, including community leaders, supporters and media representatives. Your investment in BDI will help people with disabilities gain the stability and purpose that come from working and participating fully in the community. Last year BDI served 1,119 people with job training, employment opportunities, or other support through our Workforce Resources programs. We connected 162 people with disabilities with permanent jobs and employed 256 people with disabilities in our mission-based social enterprises. 5 Employer of the Year: Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta employees Priscilla Patterson, Support Specialist and former BDI client, and Leah Davenport, Senior Vice President, Operations and Administrative Services and BDI board member Honorees The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta began its relationship with Bobby Dodd Institute in 2012, and it has been a leading partner in creating job opportunities for people with disabilities and disadvantages ever since. Former BDI clients work in roles within the Bank including Support Specialist for the mail room. This year, BDI is pleased to recognize the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta s leadership with the 2016 Employer of the Year award. The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta plays a critical role in BDI s job training programs. The Bank hosted internships in the past, providing important training and work experience for BDI job candidates. Today, Bank staff members are helping BDI pilot Investments that Work, an employer-based training program in which job candidates participate in a 12-week internship. Over the course of the internship, participants gain hands-on experience by working in three different departments within the Bank: retail payment, mail room/facilities, and the Sodexo Cafeteria and coffee shop. Bank employees also volunteer to help clients prepare for the job-search process by leading business etiquette and interview workshops. In addition providing opportunities within the Bank, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta employees are strong advocates for BDI externally, engaging their vendors by introducing them to our mission in the hopes that they too will consider working with BDI to meet their employment needs. BDI is grateful to have the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta as a champion for our clients and a partner for our programs.

6 Circle of Excellence: Cassie S. Mitchell, Ph.D. Dr. Cassie S. Mitchell was born and raised in Oklahoma. The only child of two teachers, she grew up on a small family farm where she trained her own Paint horse, Misty Jet, and amassed four World Championships in western speed events. Cassie graduated high school valedictorian from Warner High School with a full academic and athletic college scholarship. Soon after high school graduation, Cassie developed a neurological condition called Devics Neuromyelitis Optica, which left her completely paralyzed from the chest down, with significant impairments to her arms, wrists, and hands, and with permanent double vision. Cassie went on to college at Oklahoma State University, where she was a Goldwater Scholar and USA Today First Team Academic All-American, graduating in 2004 Summa cum Laude with a bachelor s of science in Chemical Engineering. As an alumnus, OSU has awarded Cassie the Distinguished Alumni Award, inducted her into the university s and college of engineering s Hall of Fame, and awarded her the Lohman Medal, in recognition of her contributions to the treatment of adverse neuropathologies and her soaring spirit and boundless determination. Mitchell went on to receive her Ph.D. in biomedical engineering with an emphasis in neuroengineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University School of Medicine in She currently is a research engineer and faculty in Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Mitchell is the lead primary investigator of the Pathology Dynamics laboratory where she and her lab of 60+ students are currently investigating Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis under two National Institute of Health grants (for recent video, see: Dr. Mitchell has over 75 research publications, and her research has been honored with the International Motoneuron Society Young Investigator Award. Mitchell describes her work as a neuropathology forecaster who predicts disease mechanisms, prognosis and potential treatment outcomes. Cassie has pursued several Paralympic endeavors, including paracycling in which she became the first female quadriplegic USA national champion and the first Union Cyclist International World Champion in Mitchell competed in the 2012 London Paralympics as a member of the USA Track & Field team and became an International Paralympic Committee Track & Field World Champion in In June 2015, Mitchell broke two world records in the women s T51 100m and 200m and won three medals for Team USA at the Parapan American Games in Toronto, Canada. Mitchell is currently training for the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janerio, Brazil. Dr. Mitchell volunteers as a mentor and counselor for neurological patients at the Shepherd Center Spinal Cord and Brain Rehabilitation Hospital, Emory Hospital, and Children s Healthcare of Atlanta. BlazeSports of Georgia has honored Dr. Mitchell with the 2015 Triumph of the Human Spirit Award. Dr. Mitchell is also a research mentor for the high school gifted and talented program at Fulton County Public Schools. She currently resides in Atlanta.
