4 Functional Skills English (OCR) In 16+ we will be exploring an exciting range of texts including a combination of novels, poetry and non-fiction. Access to literature will be through reading, listening to audio books, role play (using and writing scripts), Bug Club and many other online resources encouraged by the college. Writing will also focus on more functional skills which will enable our students to build confidence toward every-day situations. Students will explore situations which may involve form filling, requesting information, reading and analysing newspaper articles and other daily routine activities. There will also be an exciting Media component to English, whereby students can compare text and film or animation and explore which they prefer and why, helping to develop reasoning skills in order to communicate with other students. Speaking and Listening is incredibly important to our students and these skills will be developed over their time at the college within each lesson, to show the importance of clear, respectful communication with others. All students will work towards an accreditation at Entry Level 2, Entry Level 3 or Level 1 & Level 2 as appropriate. For more information see Mrs Daniela Sereno-Spicer
5 (PSE) Entry Level 1, 2, 3, Level 1, Level 2 as appropriate In 16+ all students study PSE as a core subject. PSE focuses on developing the student s skills for life. If they continue through the full 2 years at school, they achieve an AQA Certificate in the relevant level. AQA is a recognised examinations board and gives qualifications to 3.5 million students each year in the UK. The modules have been chosen to give a full spread of interest and skills to our students. Below is an example of the structure of the course: Year 1 Year 2 Drugs Education Personal Finance Sex and Relationships Applying for Jobs and Courses Emotional Wellbeing Personal Safety Healthy Lifestyles Being a Critical Consumer Applying for Jobs Courses Parenting Awareness For more information see Mrs Anna Burdett
