1 MATHS Step 1 To achieve Step 1 in Maths students must master the following skills and competencies: Number Add and subtract positive decimal numbers Add and subtract negative numbers in context Order decimal numbers Order negative numbers Round numbers to the nearest whole number Add and subtract fractions with a common denominator Define percentages as number of parts in a hundred Calculate a unit fraction of a quantity Shape Find the area and perimeter of a triangle Measure and draw angles using a protractor Compass directions Describe 3D shapes referring to their properties Find the volume of a cuboid Algebra Plot and identify co-ordinates in all four quadrants Introduce algebraic notation

3 3 Step 2 To achieve Step 2 in Maths students must master the following skills and competencies: Number Multiply positive decimal numbers and divide decimal numbers by an integer Four operations with negatives Order fractions Round numbers to the 1 decimal place Understand and identify equivalent fractions Add and subtract fractions without common denominator Calculate percentages of amounts (non- calculator methods) Factors, multiples and Primes Calculate a fraction of a quantity Cancel simple ratios to their lowest terms Change freely between related standard linear units of measurement Consolidate their numerical and mathematical capability and extend understanding of the number system to powers and roots. Shape Find the area and perimeter of a compound shape Apply the properties of angles to calculate missing values Find the surface area of a cuboid Recognise the order of rotational symmetry Algebra Use and interpret algebraic notation Collecting like terms Understand and use standard mathematical formulae Substitute into simple formulae Solving one step equations
