1 WORCESTER CITY COUNCIL JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Service Area: Economic Development Officer (People) Regeneration and Business Engagement Post no: Grade: 8 Responsible to: Economic Development and Regeneration Team Leader 1. Role of Economic Development Officer (People) 1.1 To be part of a small Economic Development team engaged in the development and delivery of economic development policies and programmes for business, people and place and activity in line with the Council s corporate priorities and the Economic Development and Planning Policy Service Plan. 1.2 To lead the delivery of skills policies, programmes and projects. 1.3 To support the work of Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership and Worcestershire County Council on skills work. 1.4 To lead the team s work on economic inclusion, working with partnership groups, focused on the most deprived communities within the City. 1.5 To undertake other duties within her/his competence or otherwise appropriate to the role of Economic Development Officer (People). 2. Specific Areas of Responsibility 2.1 To develop a skills strategy for the City Council, within the overall Economic Prosperity Strategy, engaging with senior staff and politicians and key partners. 2.2 To help develop and lead partnership working on skills across the City, liaising effectively with all internal and external partners

2 including: University of Worcester; Worcester College of Technology; Job Centre Plus and Worcester Community Trust. 2.3 To liaise with Worcestershire LEP and Worcestershire County Council to provide a specific Worcester dimension to Worcestershire-wide skills and economic inclusion programmes within the Strategic Economic Plan and European Funding Strategy and ensure that their delivery provides benefit to Worcester residents and businesses. 2.4 To work with Worcester- based partners to support the development of projects, and to identify opportunities and leverage in additional resources for skills and economic inclusion projectsensuring the Council s limited available resources achieve best value for money. 2.5 To lead on implementation, monitoring and budget management of skills projects both existing and new ones that are developed. 2.6 To ensure that Worcester City Council has the evidence required to support its development and implementation of a skills strategy. 2.8 To work with partners within the Our Happy Place Partnership (covering the most deprived wards within Worcester City) to develop ideas and projects that address economic inclusion issues identified. 2.9 To lead the team s work in developing an approach to ensure local job and skills opportunities are created from regeneration activity, working with community organisations, developers and public sector partners To work with other colleagues within the team on projects that cut across different areas of responsibility To work as part of the wider team within the Economic Development and Planning Policy Service Area?? proactively contributing to wider team meetings and the development and monitoring of the Service Plan. 3.
