Music Education & Outreach: Bringing Music Worcester to Worcester Music Worcester reaches thousands of area youth each year through robust educational and outreach programs run by Music Worcester, The Music Guild of Music Worcester, and The Worcester Chorus of Music Worcester. These programs bring arts and culture to all parts of our City of Worcester. Festival Singers a program of The Worcester Chorus where area high school choir students may sing with the Chorus and the Festival Orchestra under the direction of Christopher Shepard for the annual Messiah performance each December. Chorus members volunteer their time to teach these high school students during the school day. Recent years have seen notable participation from South High Community School and Wachusett Regional High School. Gerald R. Mack Scholarship an annual scholarship award given in honor of the former, long-serving Director of The Worcester Chorus, Dr. Gerald Mack. High school seniors pursuing a degree in music are eligible to apply. Music-To-Go run by The Music Guild, this program brings professional musicians into Worcester Public Schools each year, often serving as a child s introduction to band and orchestra instruments. This program serves a specific elementary grade level each year, with cross-curricular components relating music to the sciences and math also being featured. Tickets to Opportunity Music Worcester s hallmark program for area youth as well as constituents of area human service nonprofits and organizations, this program works to reduce barriers to attendance, whether such barriers be ticket price, transportation, location of venues, or stereotypes. Program participants attend Music Worcester events at no cost. Visiting Guest Artist coachings and masterclasses an exciting new component of Music Worcester s outreach efforts, this program brings the world-renowned musicians visiting Worcester as part of the organization s main series into direct contact with Worcester s schools and area youth with special coachings and masterclasses. The season featured Simone Dinnerstein s Bachpacking residency at Worcester Arts Magnet Elementary School, musicians from both the Polish- Baltic Philharmonic and Jerusalem Symphony coaching the Burncoat High School orchestra, company members from the Moscow Festival Ballet meeting area dance students, and Mnozil Brass mentoring the entire band programs of South High Community School and Sullivan Middle School through workshops and coaching sessions. Worcester Symphonic Project only four years-old, this unique cross-generational program brings together an amazing mix of greater Worcester residents for a consortium orchestra whose work culminates in a performance at Mechanics Hall. Middle school and high school musicians join together with many area college students and adults to be coached by professional musicians in works by Mozart and Haydn. Several months of rehearsals and coachings ensure that the music is well-prepared and that friendships between the diverse participants are encouraged and fostered. This is the only program of its kind to bring together college students from multiple campuses in Worcester for a cultural event each year. Young Artist Competition held each spring at WPI, the annual Competition serves as a highly competitive program where thousands of dollars in prizes are awarded. Prize funds come from The Music Guild, who awards the annual Stasia B. Hovenesian Prize in honor of Music Worcester s former Executive Director, the Sylvia Gafvert Stubblebine Fund of Greater Worcester Community Foundation, and Music Worcester itself through private donations in support of the program. Your support ensures these meaningful experiences continue.

About Music Worcester Music Worcester is the pre-eminent presenter of live classical, jazz, folk, and choral performances in Central Massachusetts. Each year we present the Worcester Music Festival - America's oldest continuing running music festival. We offer distinguished and diverse programs by celebrated artists, world renowned orchestras, chamber and jazz ensembles, world music and dance groups, as well as choral masterworks, all in the acoustic splendor of renowned venues like Mechanics Hall and Hanover Theatre.
