1 Entrance requirements for the 3rd Worldcup in Chainsaw Carving 2016 at Pentecost in Mulda/Saxony/Germany Sunday 8 th of May Tuesday 17 th of May 2016 Dear friends, here are our explanations for the competition in 2016: Travel from overseas Please, book your connecting flight via Frankfurt to Dresden. If you book your transatlantic flight with members of the "Star Alliance", this connecting flight is most likely cheaper. Arrival at Dresden airport May 8 th, departure from Dresden airport May 17 th. Please tell us your travel times until the 15 th of April If you like to stay longer you may rent a car, we are able to organize tours to other chainsaw carvers for you. The price of the flight (economy class) for the carver will be refunded by us if you present the receipt for the flight. Receipts have to be handed in at the cash point in Blockhausen on Saturday, 14 th of May. Travel from Germany Arrival Monday 9 th of May for carvers of the main piece, for speedcarvers Thursday the 12 th, departure directly or the day after the competition. Competitors from Germany will receive 0,20 Euro per kilometer for travel expenses when travelling by car. Partner We are happy if you bring your partner or a child, there will be no extra expenses for you except for the flight. If you bring another member of your family as guest, there will be costs of 40,-Euro per day for accommodation and full board. This money will be held at the pay-out after the competition. Please tell us until 15 th of April 2016 how many persons you will bring with you. Accomodation During the competition accommodation will be on site. It is possible, that carvers have to share a room. Since last year it has for the first time been a problem to find enough trailers, it is possible, that additional guests will be accommodated in the Hayhotel.

2 Catering Catering and drinks for the carvers and their partners are free / 40,- Euro for additional guests. On the days we are open for visitors (Saturday Monday) everybody will receive 3 luncheon vouchers which can be used for the time in-between breakfast and dinner. Alcohol free drinks are always available for free in the shed besides the campfire. Who wants to drink beer during the day has to buy it himself. Transport On all other days (Monday Friday) we will care for the catering. On Saturday, May 14th we would like to organize an international buffet again. We ask every competitor to bring some special food from his country. Best would be something that is packed in a can, dried or in vacuum. We will pick up all people who fly in from the airport in Dresden and bring them back. Chainsaws and Tools Insurance We will have chainsaws for everybody who travels by airplane. We ask you to bring your own carving bars, ear-protection, glasses and safety-chaps. Gas and oil will be sponsored by the company ASPEN. Special tools like sanders or grinders have to be brought or exchanged with other carvers. We have converters for electric tools with 110V ( in Germany 220V). All competitors from other countries have to have a health insurance for foreign countries. We do not take over possible costs for a Doctor or Hospital. Theme for the main piece Twelver Carvers will be invited for the main piece competition. The theme is: Vikings attack a village Every participant carves 2 sculptures, one Viking (with horns on the helmet, although this is historically not correct) and one of the attacked villagers. The sculptures are supposed to tell a story, remember the Vikings are told to have been brutal. The Viking does not always have to be winning. The sculptures will be installed in a meadow, so there is no sense in making small items that lie on the ground Up to three carvers can work together to make up a scene from six sculptures. The scene has to be installed on Monday, 2 pm in a carving site, the figures do not have to be attached to each other. There will be an extra prize for the best scene. The size of the human figures is limited to 180 cm inclusive helmet + 20 cm for the base. If there are two humans in one sculpture where one lifts up the other, the sculpture may be higher Every carver can have several logs

3 Who wishes to assemble big animals please talk to us until December 2015 for special sizes of wood and assembling materials. Screwing, glueing and adding of small pieces is not allowed, adding of big pieces like arms, swords and shields is. The sculpture has to stay as easily to maintain as possible. Colour is not allowed, burning and Witches brew are. We provide the witches brew. Light/dark effects are explicitly favoured. In the end all sculptures will be installed in one big scene All sculptures shall have a base of at least 20 cm, so we can drill holes for installation. The main piece then belongs to the organizer of the event (Blockhausen). He will label the sculptures with the name of the artist and is not allowed to sell them. Wood There will be enough wood (oak) for every competitor, but don t rely on there being very many very big logs. There will be no wood lottery, who comes first has the first choice. Place every carver has one carving place, groups have to talk to us two weeks before the competition so they will get adjoining places. Time Work on the main piece starts on Wednesday 11 th of May 2016 at 8 am. End is on Monday 16 th of May at 2 pm. During this time there is no time limit for work on the main piece. All tools are allowed. The evaluation by the jury will be on Monday at 2 pm. Charity auction Before or during the time of the competition every carver will make a small sculpture (in about approximately one hour) which will be given for free to the organizer to be auctioned off for a good

4 cause. For the children s playground in Blockhausen a stainless steel Shute is to be bought ( ). On Wednesday and Thursday the speed carving teams GB and GER will together carve a bench, which will become the first prize in the lottery for those visitors, who have taken part in the visitors choice (by telling us their favorite sculpture until Monday, 2pm). This is important so we get attention from the newspapers before the competition. Prize money main piece (Jury) 1. place place place 1000 Prize for the best scene 500 On Monday there will be a People's Choice Prize money for visitors most favorite scene of sculptures 500 Speedcarving international contest Great Britain - Germany 6 carvers from Germany (national team speed carving) and 6 carvers from Great Britain will be invited for speed carving only. Requirement for this is the citizenship GB or GER. Carvers from the main piece do not take part in the speed carving competition. On Saturday and Sunday speed carving will be from 10 to am and 2 to 3 pm. On Monday from 10 to 11 am and 1 to 2 pm. The afternoon times may vary due to the auctions after midday. every carver will make only one piece per session. It may consist of more than one part and they will be auctioned off together (for example Sigurd carves 3 owls in one hour, they will be auctioned off together and not each by itself). Every theme (for example owl, eagle, bear) can be made only once. Colored paint and the addition of pieces is allowed. The order of the pieces in the auction will be drawn for every day on Thursday, but will not be announced to the carvers. There will be enough oak for every speed carver. Every speed carver has to prepare all of his wood until Friday evening, it can be prepared and stored temporarily above the carving sites. Since during noon the transportation machine is not available to bring new wood to the carving places, it is important to have all the wood you need for one day brought to your place the evening before. All transports have to be agreed upon self-dependent with the machine driver.

5 On Saturday morning and Sunday morning / afternoon participants have to work on the same piece, which will be auctioned off on Sunday. The topic for this sculpture can be chosen freely and can be similar to one of the other sculptures (for example Bob has already made an eagle, in the 2 * 90 min carve he can use on again). To not overload the auction on Sunday with 12 big pieces at once we will proceed as follows: An extra lottery on Friday will tell, which 6 of the carvers (3 USA and 3 GER) will finish their 2*90 minutes piece on Sunday morning, the others start 30 minutes later and make a one hour carving. This gives us 6 big ones and 6 smaller pieces for the midday auction. The other way round in the afternoon, the carvers who finished their big piece in the morning now carve for one hour, the others work for 90 minutes to finish their big piece. Which gives us 6 smaller and 6 big sculptures in the afternoon auction as well. The auction starts when all smaller carvings are on the stage. They will be auctioned off and then the auctioneer will go to the carving sites and auction off the bigger pieces from there. After each auction the total auction proceeds of both teams will be showed on a blackboard as scores so the visitors don t draw wrong conclusions ;-). The team with the higher score wins. 50% of the proceeds go to the carver, 50% to the organizer. The 50% for the carver go to each carver individually.
