2 Statement of Need North Shore-LIJ Health System CME activities are designed to improve physician competencies, performance in practice and patient outcomes. The goal of Management of the Preterm Patient: An Obstetric and Neonatal Perspective is to focus on important high-risk obstetrical and neonatal issues related to infection, preterm labor, and tocolysis in the clinical practice setting. Practitioners need to recognize and incorporate the most current information into their daily practice for optimal clinical management of the patient so that maternal and newborn outcomes are improved. Program Objectives All North Shore LIJ Health System CME activities are designed to improve patient care. At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to: Review the current evidence for the effectiveness of maintenance tocolysis. Describe the most up-to-date treatment and management of the problems of premature infants Define the implications of poor growth in the newborn period Review the evidence supporting the use of magnesium sulfate for neuroprotection in the newborn Critically Evaluate infection in premature infants Explain the implications of antenatal cytokine release on long term brain development Practice and demonstrate improved clinical skills for resuscitating newborns Demonstrate how participation in the neonatal resuscitation workshop increases competence and practice resulting in favorable patient outcomes Target Audience Neonatologists, Obstetricians, Pediatricians, Physician Assistants. Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Nurse Midwives, Obstetrical, Neonatology and Pediatric Fellows and Residents. CME Accreditation North Shore-LIJ Health System is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide Continuing Medical Education for Physicians. North Shore LIJ Health System designates this educational activity for a maximum of 5.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nursing Credit The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) will accept 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit as equal to 1.0 ANCC contact hour. Nurses should inquire with their specialty organizations and professional institutions as to their acceptance of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
