Use your book, notes, and Spanish-English dictionary to write your paper. 2. Try to stick with what you have learned in the lessons and what you already know how to say (use the dictionary as a last resort for a single word look-up only). 3. Your paper must be typed using Microsoft Word, be in APA style, and ed from your student account to your teacher as an attachment. 4. Will be graded using the Presentational Writing rubric. Presentational Speakings (spoken entirely in Spanish) 1. Use your book, notes, and Spanish-English dictionary to write your script. 2. Try to stick with what you have learned in the lessons and what you already know how to say (use the dictionary as a last resort for a single word look-up only). 3. Will be graded using the Presentational Speaking rubric. 4. Be creative and have fun! 5. When presenting you may have one index card with only a few guideline words to keep you on track. If you look at it so often as to be reading from it, you will receive a maximum of only 25/100 points for having the courage to get up in front of the class.
3 6. Listeners must be good audience members and exhibit self-control (some of the skits are meant to be funny, but you are not to disrupt the skit). Semester 1 Presentational Writing Options (choose one): PW1.1 Los Profesores de LWHS 1. Research: Interview at least 3 different teachers, administrators, or staff members at LWHS. 2. Presentational Writing: Write a 125-word minimum report about them; basically 30 words minimum about each and then 35 words where you are comparing them. a. Include basic information about them (name, title, where they are from, physical description, personality, what they like/dislike, what they teach or what their job is here at LWHS, etc.) b. Make comparisons about them (who is taller, more athletic, older, etc.) PW1.2 Extraterrestres 1. Research: various life forms 2. Presentational Writing: Write a 125-word minimum report about them. a. Include basic information about them (where they are from, physical description, personality, what they like/dislike, type of clothing they wear, etc.) b. Compare them to us (who is taller, more athletic, older, etc.) (approximately 35 words of comparison) c. Include a drawing or photo representation PW1.3 El Periódico 1. Research: current events around our school or immediate community (game, dance, play, concert, etc.) 2. Presentational Writing: Write a 125-word minimum newspaper report that: a. shows mastery of the present and/or present progressive, preterite, and imperfect tenses. b. includes a drawing or photo representation about the news story. PW1.4 La Casa Ideal 1. Think: about your ideal place to live. 2. Presentational Writing: Write a 125-word minimum report about the house. a. Include basic information about the house, apartment, condo, etc. i. where is it located? ii. name the rooms it has iii. items in the rooms iv. chores you have to do to maintain it b. Include a photo of some aspect of the house that you described.
4 Presentational Speaking Options (choose one): PS1.1 El Consultorio Skit (groups of 4) 1. Research: Injuries, illnesses, conditions, and doctor s offices 2. Presentational Speaking: As a group, you will plan, practice, and perform a skit that would take place in a doctor s office or hospital. Total time is 2-4 minutes and each person must speak equally. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. Create two conversations between a doctor and a patient. i. The patient tells the doctor what happened to bring them to the office today. 1. use one of the past tenses, or both 2. use at least three different parts of the body 3. use at least one adverb or adverbial expression ii. The doctor asks more questions, gives advice about the problem, and/or tells the patient what is going to be done about the problem. 1. use at least two commands (+ and -) 2. use at least two reflexive verbs 3. use at least one adverb or adverbial expression b. The use of props is advised. PS1.2 En el Pasado Skit (groups of 4) 1. Think: about something that either has happened in the past or make up something that happened. 2. Presentational Speaking: As a group, you will plan, practice, and perform a skit about something that happened in the past. It is a retelling of the story (so use the past tenses). It can be serious or you can make it a comedy. Total time is 2-4 minutes and each person must speak equally. Be creative about the details. PS1.3 La Tecnología o El Coche Skit (groups of 3) 1. Think: about technology or cars 2. Presentational Speaking: As a group, you will plan, practice, and perform a skit that deals with either technology, cars or both. Total time is 2-4 minutes and each person must speak equally. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. use one of the past tenses, or both b. use as much vocabulary as possible from our lesson c. use at least one adverb or adverbial expression during the skit d. give at least two commands (+ and -) PS1.4 Casas Museos (groups of 3) 1. Research: various famous houses that are now museums
5 2. Presentational Speaking: As a group, you will plan, practice, and present information about one, two, or three famous house museums. Total time is 2-4 minutes and each person must speak equally. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. Information about the house i. where it is located ii. why it is famous iii. describe the house b. Information about the person(s) who lived there i. who lived there ii. describe the person and why they are famous c. Include photo during your presentation that are appropriate Semester 2 Presentational Writing Options (choose one): PW2.1 Una Campaña Ambiental 1. Think: about environmental issues in your school or community. 2. Presentational Writing: Write a 150-word minimum report about the issues and how they can be resolved. Include: a. information about each issue b. what is being done in other places around the country or world to resolve the issue(s) c. what you think can be done here specifically to help resolve the issue(s) PW2.2 Una Comunidad Nueva 1. Think: about various places to live and design a new community. 2. Presentational Writing: Write a 150-word minimum report about this community. Include: a. a description of where the community is located (city, suburbs, rural) b. a description of various places in the community (what you can find at each place, what you can buy or do there, who works there, etc.) c. why you would like to live there in the future (the advantages of living there) d. compare this community with the community where you now live e. a map of the layout of the community (on-line or scan in your own neat drawing). Include: i. at least four different labeled streets ii. a post office iii. a bank iv. at least four other labeled places (recreation areas, shops, etc.) f. an explanation/description of at least four of these places of special interest (museums, hiking trails, theatres, etc.) that would appeal to tourists visiting your community (what each place has to offer)
6 g. two statements giving directions from one location in the community to another location (use formal commands to give those directions and what mode of transportation is recommended) PW2.3 Mi Plan Personal de Bienestar 1. Think: about your health and nutrition. 2. Presentational Writing: Write a 150-word minimum personal health plan. Include: a. information as outlined on p. 218 of your textbook b. visuals that add life to your paper PW2.4 Una Cena Inolvidable 1. Imagine: if you could invite five famous people to dinner at your house, who would you invite and why? 2. Presentational Writing: Write a 150-word minimum report about the dinner. Include: a. who you would invite and why b. what would you eat? talk about? etc.? c. what would you ask each one? PW2.5 Mi Plan para Mejorar el Mundo 1. Think: about the world and how you would like to make it a better place. 2. Presentational Writing: Write a 150-word minimum report about what you would do to improve the world. Include: a. information as outlined on p. 318 of your textbook b. visuals that add life to your paper Presentational Speaking Options (choose one): PS2.1 El Medio Ambiente Skit (pairs) 1. Scenario: one of you is a student concerned about the environment and the other is the owner or representative for a company that is harming the environment. 2. Presentational Speaking: In pairs, you will plan, practice, and perform a skit that deals with environmental issues. Total time is 2-4 minutes and each person must speak equally. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. explain the consequences that the company s actions have on the environment b. suggest solutions that are good for the environment and will also help the company
7 PS2.2 Un Día en la Ciudad Skit (pairs) 1. Scenario: You and your best friend are planning on going to a big city to shop and explore for the day. 2. Presentational Speaking: In pairs, you will plan, practice, and present a skit about a day in a big city. Total time is 2-4 minutes and each person must speak equally. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. when and where you two are going b. how you will get there c. what you will do during the day (be specific about the places and what you will be doing) d. directions to at least a couple places within the city i. use street names ii. directional words iii. cardinal directions (N, S, E, W) iv. nearby landmarks PS2.3 Una Vida Sana (individually) 1. Scenario: you are a health and fitness motivational speaker giving a presentation to a group of students. 2. Presentational Speaking: Individually, you will plan, practice, and present information that deals with a healthy lifestyle (nutrition, exercise, etc.). Your goal is to motivate and inspire your audience to lead a healthier lifestyle. Total time is 2-4 minutes. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. a discussion of what you do to lead a healthy lifestyle b. advice for the audience on how to improve their health and lead a healthy lifestyle PS2.4 Líderes (individually) 1. Research: a person from the Spanish-speaking world who is famous for defending the rights of workers (or human rights in general). 2. Presentational Speaking: Individually, you will plan, practice, and present information about that person and the rights that they fought for. Total time is 2-4 minutes. You must include the following: a. the person s name and country of descent b. background on the rights that the person fought for c. the outcome of their campaign d. photos of the person e. other photos as appropriate PS2.5 Mis Planes Profesionales para el Futuro (individually) 1. Research: a couple professions that are of interest for your future. 2. Presentational Speaking: Individually, you will plan, practice, and present information about the professions you have researched. Total time is 2-4 minutes. You must include the following:
