2 Welcome It is with the greatest pleasure that the members of the International Lyceum Club of Amsterdam welcome you to participate in the 33rd International Congress in The Netherlands. The congress will take place in Amsterdam from Sunday May 8 to Tuesday May Amsterdam is the capital of the Kingdom of The Netherlands; a city with magnificent history, going back well over 800 years. The Congress itself will take place at the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, right in the middle of the city. There are rooms available in this hotel for those who wish to stay close to all the events. There are a great number of hotels in all price ranges in the area. The Netherlands is one of the so-called Low Countries in Western Europe. Almost half of its territory lies below sea level. The struggle against the water and the opportunities which were given by the same water for prosperity and wealth, made the people of the Netherlands what they are today. Members of the Amsterdam Lyceum Club looking forward to show you their beautiful city. There will be ample opportunity to see the rest of the country on pre- and/or post-congress tours, organised by the three Dutch clubs, within the theme of the congress: Meet the Dutch below, at and above sea level. A congress is the General Meeting for all Lyceum Clubs from all over the world. This is where each member has the opportunity to be part of the decision-making process, influencing the future of Lyceum. However, a congress is more than that! It is always a unique opportunity to rekindle old friendships and to make new friends across the continents. We live in different countries and cultures, but are all bound together by our common aim, bringing together women interested in the arts, sciences, social concerns and a pursuit for lifelong learning.
