Teach to every student s level every day. SuccessMaker Enterprise

SuccessMaker Enterprise individualizes learning for measurable success in grades K 8. The ideal tool for pre-emptive intervention If a kid s in trouble, you can t tiptoe. You have to jump in. SuccessMaker Enterprise technology lets us do it. CONTENTS 1 Overview 2 Key Benefits 4 Adaptive Methodology 5 Results Manager System 6 Forecasting and High Stakes Management 7 Deployment Options 8 Curriculum 9 Courseware Packages

Tailored, teacher-guided lessons I hated fractions. I guess I still hate fractions. But at least I know how to do them now. Daily assessment, accurate forecasting SuccessMaker Enterprise is like GPS for students. We know where we are. We know how far there is to go. And we see the way to get there. 1

PROGRESS Keep a comprehensive digital curriculum on call for every learner who needs it. SuccessMaker Enterprise is standards-based courseware used in more than 16,000 schools nationwide. After four decades of research and development, SuccessMaker Enterprise has evolved into an instructional program that, like a personal tutor, can discern and respond to the individual needs of each student in grades K 8. Students begin at the right level. A powerful diagnostic tool determines the appropriate instructional level for each student, a level that is neither too easy nor too difficult. Educators can predict high-stakes test performance. Real-time reporting offers a clear picture of each student s progress for lesson customization. The program also contains tools that can forecast where students will be in a course at a given moment in the future. Correlated with achievement levels on state tests, SuccessMaker Enterprise can even project the probability of a student passing high-stakes state assessments. Media-savvy learners stay engaged. The one-on-one instruction is computer-based, delivered in an environment that engages students and keeps them on-task for efficient learning. SuccessMaker Enterprise works for all kinds of students, including those who are at risk, gifted, or served within special education. Introducing SuccessMaker Anywhere Help your students continue their learning at home. An optional module lets your school offer Internet access to SuccessMaker Anywhere from any location, any time. For more details, see page 7. 2

With SuccessMaker Enterprise, we re seeing students achieve up to a year s progress in a quarter, with an average of approximately half a year s growth in only nine weeks. Carol Barton, Principal Jefferson Junior High Toledo, OH

ADAPTIVE Free your teachers from second-guessing themselves. Aided by SuccessMaker Enterprise, teachers regain a sense of control over the destiny of the students in their classrooms. The technology eliminates the need for guesswork. Minute by minute, the program interacts with each learner with specificity and consistency that normal class loads don t permit. Powerful, built-in methodologies propel progress and equip teachers with information to focus their teaching efforts. Answer Pattern Response This analysis feature determines when learning has actually occurred. In several courses, the student s pattern of response not just the percentage of correct answers is used to determine mastery. Intelligent Tutor After analyzing the pattern of answer responses, this tool adjusts the system to a learner s specific needs at a particular moment. The student gets multiple opportunities to master an objective through sequential practice, prerequisite instruction, or tutorial assistance. Content Distribution To strengthen a student s conceptual understanding, SuccessMaker Enterprise adjusts the proportion of instruction across concept areas, emphasizing the weaker areas. Dynamic Ordering The presentation of content is adapted studentby-student, delaying content that is initially more difficult in order to find the optimal sequence. Retention Check To avoid learning decay, SuccessMaker Enterprise conducts automatic reviews to monitor the amount of content the student retains at intervals during the learning process. What I like about the SuccessMaker Enterprise program is that it helps me set bigger goals for my future. It s a great way to learn. - Sara Coca, 5th Grade Student Pueblo School District 60 Pueblo, CO 4

Accountability is here to stay, but managing it just got easier. The Results Manager Management System is a multi-functional tool that makes it easy to monitor and assign content to every student. Teachers have ready access to available information about each student s progress and needs. Students, teachers, and administrators all benefit when SuccessMaker Enterprise is part of the team. Flexible Options for Student Enrollment Student information can be imported from another file or entered manually for individual students or groups. Additionally, key demographic information can be imported for each student at enrollment for easy progress monitoring as required by No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Course Customization The Results Manager allows teachers to select content and strategies to complement their instructional planning. This flexibility makes it feasible to diversify instruction for all students, ensuring that each one receives a customized learning experience. Management and Assessment of Student Portfolios Online portfolios facilitate assessment of tasks and assignments and serve as a communication link between teachers and students. Holistic scoring rubrics are also provided for lesson activities and portfolio projects ideal for student self-evaluation, peer evaluation, and teacher assessment. On-demand Reporting Teachers can monitor student progress easily with a robust selection of reports that show a student s overall performance in a course, areas in need of improvement, a global overview of group progress, and prescriptive reports that forecast time needed by individual students to reach instructional goals. 5

FORECASTING Forecast student performance on the next high-stakes test right now. What will happen when the next state assessment rolls around? How will your NCLB target groups perform? Now you can know with high accuracy, in advance. High Stakes Management (HSM), a robust enhancement to SuccessMaker Enterprise, provides a direct link between your students courseware levels and their performance on high-stakes state tests including recommended intervention strategies prior to the test. Plan in advance instead of playing catch-up. With an HSM plan customized for your school or district, you can predict probable student performance on high-stakes tests. Prior to testing, you ll be able to design the right intervention in areas that need improvement. Most importantly, you ensure each student s maximum success. Educational Consultants become your coaches. Pearson is your full-time partner in improving student results. Our expertly trained Educational Consultants will work with your district and/or school. They ll identify performance gaps, correlate your needs into a customized implementation plan, and provide you with the greatest probability of student proficiency on upcoming tests. Let s kick off your School Action Plan. A complete High Stakes Management plan covers all the bases. Milestones customized for your school or district Implementation training for school-level educators Interim Reviews that forecast high-stakes test achievement at the individual student, group, and school levels Time-of-Test Reviews that facilitate future planning even before final test results are in Ask your Pearson representative for complete details. 6

Extend learning beyond classroom walls with SuccessMaker Anywhere options. Depending on the size, information-sharing needs, and educational strategy of your school or district, you can opt for the SuccessMaker Anywhere solution that meets your requirements. All are Web-enabled so you can offer access to the learning environment from any computer connected to the Internet even at home with the optional Home Access module. Every deployment model offers district-wide data collection and reporting to assist in meeting accountability requirements. Variations allow you to adapt to a specific technology infrastructure and to select license and data transfer options. District Standard For small to large school districts, the standard SuccessMaker Anywhere utility offers all of the essential features mentioned above. To help you maximize your investment, it supports a variety of hardware and network infrastructures including low-speed WAN links. District Web Small to medium school districts can opt to provide students access to the learning environment in off-site locations. In addition to Standard features, you can install computers loaded with SuccessMaker Enterprise at locations such as local libraries and community centers. District Multi-site Data Small to medium districts with high-speed WAN links can centralize servers in a single location. Licenses are allocated on a per-school basis and, as with student data, can be transferred from site to site as necessary. District Shared Data This option enables small to medium districts with high-speed WAN links to reduce the initial hardware investment. Servers are centralized in one location with a single pool of licenses. For ease of reporting, all records are maintained in a single student database. District Flex For maximum scalability, District Flex allows systems of any size to mix the usage of both low- and highspeed WANs. It s easy to transfer student data and licenses from site to site. This option also supports variable enrollments, changing usage patterns, and special programs such as summer school. 7
