4 Protect Yourself from the Sun The sun s ultraviolet (UV) rays are dangerous and may harm you if you become overexposed. There are many ways to protect yourself from the sun. Directions: Match the sentences with the correct protection pictured below. 1. Wear a shirt. DO 2. Wear sunglasses. 3. Wear a hat. 4. Use sunscreen. 5. Use an umbrella. 6 Sun Protection Products Directions: Read and study the information about sun protection products on the next two pages. Sunscreen lotion is good protection from the sun s ultraviolet rays. Use sunscreen lotion when you go outdoors. Apply the lotion to your skin. SUPER SUNSCREEN LOTION WATERPROOF SPF30 UV Protection Vitamin E moisturizer added 16 oz. SUNSCREEN SPF 30 FRONT This lotion gives you 30 times your natural degree of sunburn protection. It protects you from the dangerous ultraviolet rays of the sun. It is waterproof for 6 hours. The vitamin E moisturizes your skin. Apply lotion to any area of the body that will be exposed to the sun. Do not apply lotion near the eyes. BACK 6

7 Sunblock gives complete protection from the sun. It prevents burning or tanning. Lifeguards and others who work or play all day in the sun often wear sunblock for complete protection. Apply sunblock to your skin. Sun Bl ock Sunblock lotion or cream blocks UV sunrays completely. Most products give SPF 30 or greater protection. Some are waterproof, but others may need to be applied after each contact with water. 7
