Introduction ASDF s Secure SMS service enables members to register for the service using their current phone numbers (mobile preferred), and to authorise payments $ or over, up to their daily authorised limit (usually $5000). Once registered, when about to undertake a task requiring Secure SMS validation the member will request to receive an SMS containing any relevant details and a `one time only 6 digit code. When received, this number must be entered into the relevant field on the page and if correct the task will be completed. In specific circumstances (such as transactions) the SMS will contain details of the transaction and the members will be prompted to confirm the details contained in the SMS message are correct before entering the 6 digit code and proceeding with the task. NOTE: Phone numbers have to be recorded in ASDF system records for the numbers to appear on the Secure SMS Internet entry page. If the phone numbers are removed from the ASDF system records, Secure SMS is disabled for the member. Page 2

Overview For transactional functions the system will send an SMS challenge only for transactions in which funds are leaving the user s accounts and only where the destination is not in the user s current saved favourites list (i.e. the transaction is to a new destination). Further to the above, the processing of any Business Online batch $ or over will require confirmation via Secure SMS, even if in user s current saved favourites list. A new SMS Code will be sent out for each Secure SMS challenge even if a prior one was not used. The system will send an SMS challenge for the following transactional functions whereby the destination of the transaction is not currently in the members online `saved favourites list: 1. Within organisation transfer 2. External transfer 3. Modify/delete periodical payments 3. Secure SMS Registration Page The Registration page for Secure SMS is accessible from the ASDF Online Home page, by clicking the `Secure SMS menu item. This will load the Secure SMS Registration page. 4 4. Registration From the Secure SMS entry page, ensure your phone number/s appears, click `Begin Registration. The following screen will appear. Click `Request SMS Code. When the following message appears on the screen `Secure SMS Pin Code sent. Please enter the code click OK. The following message will appear on the selected mobile number. `<SMS Code> is your SMS Code to complete your Secure SMS Registration please enter the SMS Code when prompted via ASDF Online. Enter the code supplied, and then click `Continue Registration. NOTE: If the SMS Code is not validated in the required time, you will need to start the Registration again. Should more than one phone number be recorded in ASDF system records, check carefully you are selecting the correct number. Page 4

5 When registration is completed successfully, you will receive the following screen. Should you wish, you can now commence to transfer funds $ or over up to your daily limit. 5. Processing External Transfers with Secure SMS After registering for Secure SMS, to process funds transfers from accounts requiring 1 signature, click on Transfer Funds, from account requiring 2 or more signatures, click on Bulk Transfers. For Bulk Transfers, the Secure SMS authentication will only appear for the final signer/approver when they click `Process Batch. After selecting `Transfer Funds, select either: 1. Another account of yours (this will not request SMS authentication) 2. Another account within ASDF 3. Another Financial Institution For the following example `Another Financial Institution has been selected. Enter details of the transfer, then click `Continue. Page 5

6 The following screen will appear. Click `Request SMS Code. (Ensure phone number and details of the transfer are correct). When the following message appears on the screen `Secure SMS Pin Code sent. Please enter the code click OK. The following message will appear on the mobile phone number selected. `To authorise the payment of <$amount> to BSB <BSB Number> account #####<Last 2 digits of account> <Name of Financial Institution transfer to> your SMS code is <SMS Code>. Providing payment details are correct, click `Yes, Transfer. The screen will then show the transfer has been accepted. You may now proceed with any other ASDF Online transactions. 6. Saved Favourites List Once a user registers for Secure SMS the user is protected from attackers attempting to transfer money to a mules account because the destination will not be in the user s saved favourites list. This also means that for transactions users will only need to be sent an SMS message when the transaction is to a new destination. This will reduce the number of SMS messages required to be sent as there are a higher percentage of transactions to existing destinations than there are to new destinations. Remember: For Business Online batches, all transactions $ or over whether or not in saved favourites list require Secure SMS authentication. Page 6

7 7. Incorrect Code Should an incorrect SMS code be entered, this message will appear `The SMS code entered is incorrect. Please try again. When the correct SMS code is entered the payment will proceed. Should the incorrect SMS code be entered 3 or more times, the following message will appear `This transfer cannot continue as too many incorrect SMS code attempts have been made. Therefore no further transactions to new destinations can be performed in this session. It will be necessary to log off, and then log back in, and start the transfer again. 8. Time Out Once the SMS code has been requested, you have 5 minutes to enter the code before the system timeouts. Should the code not be entered within 5 minutes, the following message will appear when the SMS code is entered `The SMS code has expired. Please try again. Click `OK, and continue with the payment again. Page 7
