2 JOBFIT Functional Job Analysis Functional Job Analysis The Functional Job Analysis is a comprehensive, structured process to identify and quantify the physical demands required to perform the work. This process will identify: The essential functions and critical physical demands of a job Tools, equipment and protective clothing used Forces, distances, repetitions, heights, body positions and other worksite measurements for a specific job Ergonomic risks Potential modifications Uses of the Functional Job Analysis include: Identification of issues for ergonomic interventions Analysis of work prior to injury prevention, education and program development Definition of factors for worksite modification or design Baseline for job rotation options Documentation of job tasks: - Hiring decisions and placement (ADA and EEOC Compliant) - Pre-Work Screen/Fit for Duty Exam - Advancement or promotion - Performance evaluations The Functional Job Analysis results in three principal end products: 1. Recommendations for eliminating risks of injury, such as hazards, positions and stressors: - Workplace redesign - Changes in work techniques and practices - Ergonomic injury prevention training - Conditioning/stretching/strengthening exercises 2. A Functional Job Description 3. Basis of developing a Pre-Work Screen/Fit for Duty Exam
3 JOBFIT Functional Job Decription Functional Job Description The Functional Job Description is developed from the results of the Functional Job Analysis. It includes a comprehensive, objective measurable definition of activities and physical/ functional demands the job requires the worker to perform. The Functional Job Description is validated for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Canadian Human Rights Legislation and other international antidiscrimination laws. The Functional Job Description is the basis for development of the Pre-Work Screen/Fit for Duty Exam. The Post Offer/Pre-Work Screen/Fit for Duty Exam is: ADA/EEOC compliant because it matches the worker with the specific job based on validated demands of the job. It allows the employer to make hiring decisions in a fair, legal and non-discriminatory way Content valid because it replicates the job Accurate, true testing with no inferential leaps. The Pre- Work Screen/Fit for Duty Exam will accurately identify individuals incapable of performing the work and decrease workers compensation costs Worker accepted because it accurately and fairly assesses whether an individual has the physical abilities to perform the work Progressive because the development of screens leads to the identification of needs for ergonomic modifications that result in ability to perform jobs more safely resulting in less injuries and decreased costs Program Components Client history and physical examination Job specific screens/test Determination of criteria met/not met for each screen/ exam component (job match grid.)
