1 August 9, 2007 California State University (CSU) Statewide Pattern The Lower-Division Transfer Pattern (LDTP) consists of the CSU statewide pattern of coursework outlined below, plus campus-specific coursework, bringing the total pattern to at least 60 but no more than 70 transferable for students to complete at a California Community College (CCC). The CSU statewide pattern of coursework for CCC students who plan to major in at any CSU campus offering the major includes: Completion of lower-division general education requirements, following either the CSU General Education Breadth (GE-Breadth) or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) pattern except GE- Breadth Area E; Completion of the CSU graduation requirements in United States History, Constitution and American Ideals; and Completion of additional as specified in (4) below. Please note that the information here is an academic and curricular advising tool: a roadmap that enables transfer students to efficiently and effectively progress towards the CSU baccalaureate degree in a specified discipline. California Community College students should work closely with their advisers when planning their academic program in preparation for transfer to the CSU. This information does not represent any guarantee with regard to admission nor does it include or replace CSU campus admissions impaction criteria (see These curricular guidelines are subject to change. CSU Statewide Pattern (1) Complete lower-division general education requirements. Obtain a certification of completion of GE-Breadth or IGETC by the California Community College before transferring to a CSU campus. While completing general education, follow the course pattern stated below. (2) Complete the graduation requirements in United States History, Constitution and American Ideals. 1 These are typically completed with one course each in American government and American history, or a sequence of courses that integrate the history and government topics. Students completing GE-Breadth should ordinarily use these courses to satisfy 6 units of Area D. 39 units for GE-Breadth Minimum grades of C are required in courses used to meet GE-Breadth Areas A and B4. or 37 units for IGETC Minimum grade of C is required in each course used for IGETC. 0 units required for GE-Breadth 6 units for IGETC IGETC does not permit double counting of courses to meet IGETC and U.S. History, Constitution and American Ideals requirements. 1 CCC courses that fulfill general education and graduation requirements in United States History, Constitution and American Ideals are listed at

3 CSU Bakersfield In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the CSU Bakersfield campus-specific pattern: A course that articulates with [CAN PSY 2] and A course that articulates with [CSUB PSYC 200, CAN PSYC 6, or STAT 2], Introduction to Statistics Methods in Research - Covers the use of basic statistical methods in designing and analyzing psychological experiments. and A course that articulates with [CSUB PSYC 290], as a Profession - Covers an introduction to the profession of psychology, including careers related to psychology, as well as exposure to various skills important for success in the major. and A course that articulates with [CSUB PSYC 291], Interpersonal and Group Process Skills - Covers skills for effective functioning in interpersonal and group settings, including active listening, interviewing, group interaction, and decision-making. and A course that articulates with [CSUB ENGL 110], Writing and Research - Covers practice in expository writing, including the college term paper. 6 CSU Fresno In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the CSU Fresno campus-specific pattern: (1) Complete: A course that articulates with [CAN PSY 6], Psychological Statistics. Electives may or may not include additional psychology courses. However, except in unusual circumstances, Biological [CAN PSY 10] is the only additional course that will count toward the psychology major at CSUF. It is also recommended that the electives include a CSU-transferable English composition course and a CSU-transferable math or statistics course beyond those taken to satisfy GE requirements. Total Semester Units Required for CSU Fresno 0-12 units CSU Fullerton In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the CSU Fullerton campus-specific pattern: A course that articulates with [CAN PSY 6], Psychological Statistics and A course that articulates with [CAN PSY 8], Introduction to Research Methods. These electives may include courses used to demonstrate intermediate level proficiency in a foreign language or American Sign Language if these courses have not been completed as part of the statewide pattern. English Freshman Composition and One of the following courses that covers basic skills in college Math: o A course that articulates with [CAN MATH 10, CSUSB MATH 110], College Algebra - Functional notation, graphs and inverses of linear, polynomial, and rational functions, rational exponents, arithmetic and geometric progressions, logarithmic and exponential functions, systems of linear equations. o A course that articulates with [CAN MATH 2, CSUSB MATH 115], The Ideas of Mathematics - Sets and their applications to topics in discrete mathematics that will include enumeration techniques and finite probability spaces. o A course that articulates with [CAN MATH 16, CSUSB MATH 120], Pre-Calculus Mathematics - Trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities, right angle trigonometry, complex numbers, conic sections, binomial theorem, induction. o A course that articulates with [CSUSB MATH 192], Methods of Calculus - A short course in calculus with emphasis on applications. o A course that articulates with [CSUSB MATH 211], Basic Concept of Calculus - An introduction to limits and continuity, differentiation of functions in one variable (including trigonometric functions) and antiderivatives

No other lower-division psychology courses than those mentioned will be counted towards the major. Additional units may, however, count towards the total units required for graduation. Total Semester Units Required for CSU San Bernardino 0- San Diego State University In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the San Diego State University campus-specific pattern: A course that articulates with Academic and Career Opportunities in A course that articulates with [SDSU PSY 211], Learning - A course that covers basic principles and research in animal and human learning. and A course that articulates with [SDSU PSY 230], Developmental - A course that covers the psychological development of a normal individual from conception through childhood, adolescence, and maturity. and A course that articulates with [CAN PSY 10, SDSU PSY 260], Introduction to Physiological - Elementary physiology of the nervous system. Physiological mechanisms underlying the psychological phenomena of sensation, perception, emotion, arousal, motivation, learning and memory, and cortical specialization. and A course that articulates with [CAN PSY 6, SDSU PSY 270], Introductory Statistics - Quantitative methods in psychology for producing, analyzing, and interpreting data. Sampling, basic research designs, describing distributions through graphs and quantitative indices, linear correlation and regression, applications of normal probability curve, confidence intervals, and tests of significance. and A course that articulates with [SDSU PSY 271], Data Analysis in - A course that covers statistical and graphic analysis and interpretation of psychological data using computer technology. and A course that articulates with [SDSU BIOL 100], General Biology - A laboratory course in biology stressing processes common to 0-1 unit
12 living organisms. IMPACTION CRITERIA This major is impacted at SDSU. Students must meet the following impaction criteria: a. Complete the following courses with a grade of C or higher. These courses cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC), with the exception of PSY 201. A course that articulates with [SDSU PSY 101], Introductory - Facts, principles, and concepts which are basic to understanding human behavior. A course that articulates with [SDSU PSY 201], Academic and Career Opportunities in - Information about careers in psychology. Includes identification of career-related strengths and interests and information on postbaccalaureate options in psychology and related fields. Introduction to resources in Undergraduate Advising and Career Services. A course that articulates with [SDSU PSY 211], Learning - A course that covers basic principles and research in animal and human learning. A course that articulates with [SDSU PSY 230], Developmental - A course that covers the psychological development of a normal individual from conception through childhood, adolescence, and maturity. A course that articulates with [CAN PSY 10, SDSU PSY 260], Introduction to Physiological - Elementary physiology of the nervous system. Physiological mechanisms underlying the psychological phenomena of sensation, perception, emotion, arousal, motivation, learning and memory, and cortical specialization. A college level statistics course will be accepted from another department in lieu of PSY 270. A course that articulates with [SDSU BIOL 100], General Biology - A laboratory course in biology stressing processes common to living organisms. b. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.40 or higher. (2) If students have used any of the above listed courses for GE, and have not completed the 60 unit minimum requirement to transfer, then the following should be completed: The major is a Liberal Arts and Sciences degree and requires students to meet the following language requirement: Competency (successfully completing the third college semester or 0-12 units
13 fifth college quarter - or equivalent) is required in one foreign language. If not already complete, students should meet some of this requirement in satisfaction of area C - Humanities in GE. If students take more units beyond 60 (but not more than 70), they may complete courses to meet this language requirement at their community college. (3) Complete additional coursework, if necessary, to bring total to 60 transferable Total Semester Units Required for San Diego State University 22 units San Francisco State University In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the San Francisco State University campus-specific pattern: A course that articulates with [CAN ENGL 2, SFSU ENG 114], First Year Written Composition - Training in expositoryargumentative composition, emphasizing work on clear and effective sentences and the organization and development of paragraph and essay. and A course that articulates with [CAN ENGL 4, SFSU ENG 214], Second Year Written Composition - Expository-argumentative composition and critical reading skills through the study of literature; special attention to logic, style, and rhetoric. and A course that articulates with [CAN MATH 10], College Algebra and A course that articulates with [CAN PSY 6, CAN STAT 2], Psychological Statistics Total Semester Units Required for San Francisco State University 0-

They may or may not include any additional PSYCHOLOGY courses. No more than 12 units of lower-division PSYCHOLOGY electives (Including up to 4 of introductory STATISTICS) will count toward the requirements of the major at SJSU. Additional units may, however, count towards the total units required for graduation and/or partially fulfill the requirements of the required minor (which can be in any discipline). Research Note: The additional courses to complete the 60, outside of those needed to complete lower-division GE requirements, are electives. They may or may not include any additional PSYCHOLOGY courses. However, no other lower-division psychology courses will be counted towards the major. 18 phenomena common to all living organisms with a course that articulates with [BIOL ], covers basic laboratory and/or field studies in various biological areas, Special Laboratory Studies or A course that articulates with [CSUST ZOOL 1050], Introduction to Zoology - An introductory course that covers the basic principles common to the animal kingdom, covering animal diversity; morphology and physiology of animal cells, tissues, and organ systems; animal reproduction and development; and principles of evolution and specialization. (2) Complete one or more of the following coursework to bring total to 60 transferable : A course that articulates with [CSUST ANTH 2060], Introduction to Cultural Anthropology - An introductory course to the study of human culture and social institutions, with special emphasis on band, tribal, chiefdom, and state/peasant societies. or A course that articulates with [CSUST COGS 2010], Introduction to Cognitive Studies - An introductory course to the issues and methods relevant to the study of natural and artificial cognitive processes. or A course that articulates with [CSUST COMM 2011], Introduction to Communication Studies - A course that covers the field of human communication as developed in contemporary theory and research. or A course that articulates with [CSUST SOCL 1010], Introduction to Sociology - A course that covers the basic concepts and perspectives in sociological analysis. If any of the courses listed above are taken to fulfill the statewide 45-unit lower-division requirements, lower-division elective units may be taken to bring your total transfer units to 60.
