2 A small history Internationalisation is one of the focus areas in the last 10 years Previously no specific goals or indicators Strategic planning Quality control Show input and output of internationalisation Challenge: formulate goals, targets, indicators suited for the quality control and innovation cycle The biggest challenge was to find common ground within all levels of the Saxion organisation Two design principles PDCA-cycle Distance to target

5 Planning and Control Cycle 4 times a year the schools report on its progress to the presidential board 2 times a year the International Office discusses the progress, targets and means with the schools as input to bridge the distance to target The International Office takes this also as an opportunity to determine the level of support and service to the Academy

7 Distance to target Schools formulates or plans an own ambition or target based on the strategic planning Each school has a different starting point, first measurement is a zero audit Each school therefore has a different distance to target Each school makes its own plan to bridge the distance to target The Planning and Control Cycle is used to report on the progress

9 Back to the bigger picture Saxion is a regional embedded University with an international profile Every graduating student at Saxion has obtained competencies to become an international professional

10 Indicators Internationalisation at home - Number of ECTS dedicated to internationalisation - Number of ECTS with a component on internationalisation Mobility - Incoming and outgoing mobility International compentencies employees

11 Choices made Determine the unit of the data gathering On the lowest organisational level that is still usefull Ability to aggregate the data to a higher organisational level Not all data is available on the lowest organisational level Link up with other data gathering for quality assurance purposes Determine who is responsible for the data input As there is always an interpretation about definitions and questions, continuity is important Have a supporting helpdesk available Determine what kind of overviews to generate What is the purpose of the overview in relation to the distance to target What is the purpose of the overview in relation to the strategic planning and Planning and Control Cycle

12 Developing the instrument Websurvey Definition issues Quantitative where possible Tension between qualitative and quantitative data gathering and interpretation What is the incentive to generate the data? Data and overviews should be usefull in other quality control reports
