2 New Testament: The Gospels Unit 1 Page 2 Instructions This workbook is meant to reinforce learning. It guides the learner through the Scriptures in analytical, topical and chronological fashion. In completing the weekly assignments the learner thoroughly masters the content of this supplementary text. The Bible IS our text book and Dr. Willmington s books are supplementary. The Bible study questions are meant to serve as discussion points during the class session. They will require a bit of extra effort such as using other Bible study tools and thinking on the part of the learner. The commentary questions are derived from Dr. Willmington s Notes for New Testament: The Gospels. The purpose for these questions is to reinforce one s Bible knowledge base and of course, answering the questions ensures that the learner does indeed interact with the material. Abbreviations & Explanatory Notes WN-NT refers to Dr. Willmington s Notes for New Testament: The Gospels. Self Test refers to a practice test. These questions might appear on lesson quiz. Terms There are three categories of terms listed in each lesson. The Study Tasks will direct you to complete brief research on terms. You will need to know the basic definition or truth involved and express it in one or two sentences. Utilize your Bible, course materials, Bible dictionary, online resources etc. to become acquainted with these important terms. Record your answers in the study guide. Samples Jesus of Nazareth The carpenter of Nazareth who became a preacher of the Gospel of the Kingdom is presented as the Son of God, Israel s Messiah and our Saviour and Lord. Philemon This New Testament character was a wealthy believer in Christ. He lived in Colosse and established a house church. Paul sought to restore his runaway slave Onesimus back to Philemon. The Pharisees (Separated ones) These zealous legalists sought to strictly keep to the ritual rites and commands of the Law. Their man-made laws and hypocritical interpretations and applications brought them into regular conflict with Jesus.
