2 ATC Automotive Test Center Real World Emissions Why PEMS? Welcome to ATC, the Automotive Test Center of TÜV Hessen. For the Homologation and Certification of vehicles, systems and components TÜV Hessen is a longtime experienced and valued partner of the Automobile and Supplier Industry. ATC is a Competence Center in the field of CO 2, fuel consumption and emissions. It is dedicated to a large variety of vehicles: Nonroad mobile machinery Heavy-Duty trucks Light-Duty vehicles Passenger cars Two wheelers. The core of ATC is: the worlds first Advanced Chassis Dyno with individually driven rollers and virtual environment (vehicle, road, traffic flow - Road to Rig) the Heavy Duty Engine Dynamometer the Portable Emission Measurement System (PEMS) More stringent measures for the protection of the environment are being considered in legislation worldwide. With the implementation of the EURO 6 homologation for heavy duty trucks as of January, 1 st, 2013, a first PEMS demonstration test according to 64/2012/EC is already required with certification. With Stage IV for nonroad mobile machinery the EU-commission already plans to perform In-Service Conformity tests, regularly during their useful life in actual operation (i.e. plowing, mowing, construction work). Engine manufactures, as well as vehicle and nonroad equipment manufacturers, face the challenge to build up strategies, how to deal with PEMS testing campaigns and certification and how to develop and optimize engine and control systems with respect of emissions and fuel consumption. TÜV Hessen offers the solution for you: The Portable Emission Measurement Service, PEMS for short. You as a manufacturer can develop strategies, optimize your product and obtain the necessary certificates. With PEMS, TÜV Hessen offers exactly the data that is needed to close the know-how gap.

3 PEMS Modular Service Catalogue ATC offers the services modular around the mobile emission measurements. You can choose whether you would like to order single modules from the PEMS service kit or the entire package. During the engine development we gladly advise you and help you to optimize your engines or vehicles/machines with our measuring unit under real world conditions (Module 1). During Production of vehicles and machines we adapt the measuring instruments at ATC on the reference vehicle(s), perform the reference measurement and produce real world emission results. With the measurement on the test bench we confirm the homologation of the vehicle/machine. We will keep the specific parts for the measuring equipment for you at ATC (Module 2). In-Use of the vehicles respectively machines, we take care of frequent PEMS tests on selected vehicles. We will gladly take care of the complete logistics, vehicle tracking and planning of the campaigns (Module 3). We conduct the entire process and compile the necessary certificates. The measurements can be carried out on vehicles like: Heavy duty vehicles, trucks, buses Nonroad mobile machinery Stationary applications Inland waterway vessels, locomotives Cars, light duty vehicles Possible test scenarions are: In-Use-Compliance (US EPA) In-Service-Conformity (Heavy- Duty Euro 6) VERT-Certification Hrs. CO 2 emissions and fuel consumption Customer specific testing PEMS is used for gaseous pollutants and PM emissions: AVL M.O.V.E GAS PEMS 493 & PM PEMS 494 Horiba OBS 2000, MAHA- MPM4 EFM exhaust flow meter imc mobile data acquisition, GPS, CAN Calculation: Concerto and JRC EMROAD In the course of establishing PEMS we have taken care, that we can always serve you fast and flexible. The measuring equipment will be customized to fit exactly at your vehicle. We have developed standardized interfaces for ease of vehicle installation, i.e.: 3-point linkage, etc.. The heavy duty case is a protection against shock and dirt for the measuring unit and transport box at the same time. Even the transport by airplane is possible. The measuring unit can be set up fast on site and can be adapted quickly via Plug&Play. Even the calibration gases (zero, span and FID supply) are part of the measuring unit. For the electrical power supply of the PEMS unit a small power generator is used. Long measurement trips independent of the state of charge are possible. We have our own service truck to transport the measuring unit and accessories on site.
