(fig.2): - barrel 3 with receiver, gas chamber and sighting devices; - receiver cover 16; - breechblock housing 10 with bolt rod 11; 7
- trigger and firing mechanism; - recoil mechanism; - hand guard 4; - piston 5; - pusher 8 with spring 17; - magazine 30 with follower and spring; - unified stock 21. On special order the rifle may be completed with optical sight on the removable mount. The rifle is reloaded automatically due to the energy of the powder gases which move through inclined opening out of the barrel bore into the gas chamber and energy of recoil mechanism spring 9. The pressure of expanding powder gases in the gas chamber through the piston 5 and pusher 8 is transmitted to the main guide link-bolt rod 11, which operates all the mechanisms of the rifle. Locking the longitudinal sliding bolt frame 10 when firing a shot is realized by its warping downwards, its rear chamfered end thrusts against the main locking lug of the rifle receiver. 8
The trigger and firing mechanism of a hammer type with revolving cocking piece 29 and mainspring 23 ensures single-shot firing with automatic reloading after each shot. Safety lock 24 of the flag type is mounted in the trigger bow 22, and its turn forward and upwards limits the backward movement of the trigger 26. The cartridges are fed from the undetachable magazine 30 containing 10 cartridges. Filling the magazine is realized from above. The bolt rod with housing, in doing so should be positioned in the rear position and held with bolt stop 20. After the last round is fired the breechblock housing with bolt rod are fixed automatically in the rear position for the next filling the magazine with cartridges. Removal of the cartridge case from the cartridge chamber is performed by means of the extractor 12 mounted in the breechblock housing 10 and rigid ejector a which is positioned on the left wall of the receiver 3. 9
1-mainspring; 2-hammer; 3-breechblock housing; 4-autosafety; 5-sear; 6-trigger lever 7-disconnector; a -locking lug. Fig. 3 The position of the trigger and firing mechanism parts after loading the rifle: 10
Open sighting device and optical sight permit to deliver an aimed fire at a range of 300 m. The principle of rifle operation consists in the following: During forward movement of the bolt rod together with the breechblock housing 3 (Fig. 3) under the action of recoil spring the cartridge from the magazine is being sent to the cartridge chamber, the bolt rod 11 (Fig. 2) by its locking chamfer lowers the rear end of the breechblock housing 3 (Fig. 3) downwards and interacting with the locking lug a of the receiver locks the barrel bore. The breechblock housing by its lower plane presses simultaneously the autosafety lever 4 and disengages it from the hammer, the hammer 2 gets engaged with the sear 5, the extractor 12 (fig.2) springs behind the rim of the cartridge case. When pressing the trigger 26, the trigger lever 6 (Fig. 3) shifts forward, and operating the lower lug of the sear 5 by its end moves it backwards. The upper lugs of the sear disengage the full bent of the cock 2, which under the action of the releasing mainspring 1 rotates and hits the firing pin 14 (fig.2). The firing pin moving forward strikes the cartridge primer causing the fire. 11
With the shot already ejected, the expanding gases move the bolt rod 11 together with the breechblock housing 10 backwards, the figured lug of the bolt rod by its inclined plane interacts with unlocking plane of the breechblock housing, lifts the rear end of the breechblock housing upwards and disengages the breechblock housing from the locking lug of the receiver, that is to say performs unlocking. Moving backwards, the breechblock housing 10 extracts the cartridge case from the cartridge chamber by means of the extractor 12 and cocks the hammer 29. After reaching the stoppage of powder gases, the breechblock housing 10 together with the bolt rod 11 move automatically, in doing so the breechblock housing continues to cock the hammer 29 compressing the recoil spring 9 and extracts the cartridge case, the pusher 8 with piston under the action of the spring 17 return to the initial position. After reaching the ejector a the cartridge case hits it by its flange and is ejected through the ejection port. During its final cocking the disconnecting lugs of the hammer 29 operate the lugs of the disconnector 33 and rotate it. Disconnector 33 presses the trigger lever 26 by its lower crosspiece, depresses it and disengages from the 12
lower lugs of the sear 32. The follower of the magazine 30 lifts the next round to the feeding position by means of its lever with spring. The bolt rod 11 after stroke in the rear position moves forward. With its rear inclined edge the bolt rod operates the breechblock housing 10 and carries it away. The breechblock housing catches the next round by its lug and pushes it to the cartridge chamber. To fire the next shot, it is necessary to release the trigger 26, which under the action of the triggering spring rotates and turns the trigger lever 27 backwards simultaneously raising its front end and disconnector 33. The trigger lever gets engaged with lower lugs of the sear. During its further pressing the trigger the cycle is repeated. 6 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS The rifle design provides functioning safety and its proper service when using the hunting cartridges 7,62x39. When servicing the rifle, it is necessary to observe the following safety rules: 1 always regard the rifle as if it is loaded; 13
2 never level the rifle at human targets or domestic animals; 3 do not lean upon the rifle; 4 remember that the firing range of bullet is 3 km long; 5 having taken the rifle in the hands, make sure that the magazine and the cartridge chamber are empty, for this purpose retract the bolt backwards; 6 prior to loading the rifle, check to see that the barrel bore and cartridge chamber are free from foreign objects. Fixing elements and flags of the rifle should be positioned in the fixing sockets. 7 do not open the bolt after misfire till expiration of 3 minutes in view of danger of hangfire; 8 always keep the rifle with engaged safety lock to avoid an accidental shot; 9 unload the rifle when coming up to the populated settlement; 10 keep the rifle and cartridges separately in the places which are not accessible for children and outsiders. 14
7 PREPARATION OF THE RIFLE FOR OPERATION To prepare the rifle for operation, proceed as follows: 1 Wipe dry the barrel bore and cartridge chamber when lubricant and fouling are available there. 2 Inspect the optical sight (if it is available). If soiling is detected on the surface of the ocular lens and objective lens, remove it by means of a flannel cloth. 3 Attach the sight to the rifle. For this purpose, turn the base clamp pin through 180º so that the pin flag is positioned in the direction of the ocular lens. Then fit the sight base on the base lug of the receiver as far as it will go and unscrew the clamp pin backwards. In this case, the tooth of the flag pin should snap behind the cavity on the upper plane of the sight base. 4 Check the fastening screw of the optical sight mount for proper fastening. The rifle is ready for fire. 15
8 OPERATION ORDER 8.1 To prepare the rifle for firing, proceed as follows: - retract the moving parts backwards by the handle up to the bolt stop, in doing so the hammer turns backwards and stops on the sear of the full bent; - fill the magazine with cartridges; - after filling the magazine, retract the moving parts a little backwards by the reloading handle, so that the bolt stop lowers downwards under the action of its spring then release the handle. Under the action of recoil spring the bolt returns to the initial front position pushing the upper round from the magazine to the cartridge chamber and locking the barrel bore. The rifle is ready to fire. 8.2 For firing, it is necessary to do the following: - turn the safety lock by the flag downwards; - set the open sight into the position which corresponds to the firing distance (position «3» of the sight leaf slide corresponds to the distance in 300 m, the position «2» and «1» - correspondingly to 200 and 100 m); - take aim and press smoothly the trigger; 16
- to fire the next shot, release the trigger and press it again; - when the magazine is empty, the moving parts will remain on the bolt stop. To resume firing, it is necessary to fill the magazine with cartridges according to p To unload the rifle, proceed as follows: - turn the safety lock by the flag upwards; - having pressed the magazine latch open the magazine; - extract the cartridges from of the magazine; - extract the cartridge from the cartridge chamber; for this purpose, smoothly draw the moving parts backwards by the reloading handle; - close the magazine; - turn the safety lock by the flag downwards and having pressed the trigger make a control release; - turn the safety lock by the flag upwards. 9 MAINTENANCE 9.1 Maintenance in service includes the following points: Rifle stripping. 17
Stripping is realized for inspection of rifle, cleaning and lubrication after firing. To strip the rifle, proceed as follows: 1 make sure that the rifle is not loaded, for this aim open the magazine, retract the moving parts by the reloading handle backwards, check to see that the magazine with cartridge chamber are empty and then send the moving parts to the forward position; 2 turn the safety lock by the flag downwards and having pressed the trigger make a control release; 3 detach the optical sight (if it is set on the rifle), for which purpose draw a little the optical sight mount pin upwards and turn it through 180º counter clockwise, and by backward movement (towards the butt) remove the sight from the receiver base; 4 extract the case with accessories from the butt; 5 detach the cleaning rod; 6 detach the receiver cover; for this aim turn the receiver cover pin upwards by the flag and shift it to the right as far as it will go; 7 extract the recoil spring with guide tube and guide rod; 18
8 extract the bolt rod together with the breechblock housing from the receiver moving them backwards and detach the bolt from the bolt carrier; 9 detach the gas tube with hand guard, for which purpose turn the lock flag upwards, raise a little the rear end of the tube and remove it from the branch pipe of the gas chamber. Extract the gas piston from the tube; 10 detach the trigger and firing mechanism, for this aim set the trigger mechanism at the safety and using the drift press the latch of the protective cramp; 11 detach the magazine; 12 detach the barrel with receiver from the gun stock; 13 turn the detent of gas tube by the flag forward and holding back the pusher detach it together with the spring; 14 strip the bolt, for which purpose knock out the stud and detach the firing pin together with the extractor from the breechblock housing. 15 To strip the trigger and firing mechanism, proceed as follows: - pull the trigger of the full bent having pressed the trigger and the lever of the autosafety; 19
- fit the body of the accessories case on the hammer and having pressed the hammer detach it from the protective cramp upright; - knock out the pins of the autosafety and the trigger and detach them from the cramp; - press the disconnector lugs, depress its trunnions and detach it from the protective cramp; - holding back the magazine latch, knock out the pin-trunnion and detach the sear with spring Assembly of the rifle Perform assembly of the rifle after stripping, cleaning and lubrication in the reverse order. When disassembling and assembling the article NEVER APPLY extra forces to avoid the deformation of the parts and assemblies Cleaning and lubrication Perform cleaning by means of accessories immediately after the fire is ceased. Prior to cleaning in winter, the rifle should be stored in the dry and heated premises. It is necessary to heat the rifle parts to the temperature of an ambient air. While cleaning the barrel bore and cartridge chamber use a 20
clean soft cloth free of sand and other hard parts. To ensure normal operation of the rifle, it is necessary to remove the scale from the gas tube and gas piston in time. To lubricate the rifle use rifle grease «РЖ». If it is not available wipe dry all parts. Points to be lubricated and method of applying lubricating material are shown in the table 9.1 Table 9.1 Method of applying lubricating material Points to be lubricated Barrel bore With wire brush Bolt With wiping material Trigger mechanism ( rotation axles, By drop method points of parts to be contacted) If the parts of rifle are heavily soiled, before cleaning wash them beforehand in the burning kerosene. 9.2 Zeroing the rifle 21
When purchasing the rifle, perform check up and in case of need correcting of sighting devices is carried out in the following way: Zeroing the rifle with use of the open sight: - set the slide of the open sighting device at division 1 of the sight leaf; - put the rifle on the lug and lay it with use of the open sight into the control point of the target, which is positioned at a distance of 100 m; - aiming carefully into the control point of the target (КТ), fire four shots, as a result all four hits or three (if one of the hits has been sharply deflected from others) should accommodate within the circle 15 cm in diameter and the mean point of impact is deflected from (КТ) by not more than 5 cm to either side; - if the deviation of hits from the aiming point is not satisfactory, perform adjusting of the aiming point by correcting the foresight position (if the mean point of impact is lower of (КТ), screw in the foresight; if above unscrew it. If the mean point of impact is left-hand of (КТ), move the foresight runner to the left and if right-hand move it to the right. When shifting the foresight aside or by 1 mm at a height the mean point of impact travels by 21 cm while firing at a distance of 100 m. 22
One full turn of foresight while firing at a distance of 100 m. shifts the mean point of impact at a height by 16 cm. Check the proper travel of the foresight by repeated firing in four single shots. After zeroing the rifle the old notch on the foresight runner should be replaced by a new one Zeroing the rifle with use of open sight: - set slide of the open sighting device at a division 1 of the sight leaf; - put the rifle on the lug and lay the rifle with the aid of open sight into the control point of the target, which is positioned at a distance of 100 m; - check the position of the sighting stub of the optical sight relative to the aiming point. If they do not coincide, it is necessary to match them by rotation of the optical sight knobs, not shifting in doing so the rifle; - check the adjustment by firing, for which purpose, aiming carefully with the use of the optical sight fire some shots. If the deviation of hits from the aiming point is not satisfactory, bring the corrections by rotation of knobs (one large division of knob scales should correspond 1 mil). For this aim re- 23
lease carefully the screws for fastening scales, coincide the division 0 of the deflection correction drum scales and the division 0 of the range drum scales with the stationary indicators on the sight body, tighten the screws for fastening the scales. In this case, the rotation of knobs is not allowed. If it is necessary to zero the optical sight at the other ranges then firing for adjustment should be made by rotation of range drum. Mark notches corresponding to the ranges on the range scale against the indicator, the meanings of scales enter the table 9.2. Table 9.2 Range Scale points 9.3 Stoppages in firing and their elimination In case of stoppages in firing reload the rifle and proceed with firing. If reloading may not eliminate stoppage, find out the cause of stoppage and eliminate it as indicated in the table
Table 9.3 Stoppages and their characteristic Setting of the cartridge The bolt is in the medium position, the cartridge is set with bullet against the breech cut of barrel Bolt not getting enough sending The bolt is in the position which is near to the front one, the sending cartridge doesn t enter the cartridge chamber completely Cause 1Soiling the magazine or thickening the lubricant. 2 Bending the magazine bends 1 Soiling the cartridge chamber, moving parts, magazine or thickening of the lubricant. Remedy Retract the bolt rearwards, remove the hiding cartridge and continue firing. If stoppage is repeated, clean the magazine. If the stoppage has been repeated after magazine cleaning, deliver the rifle to the repair shop. Retract the bolt a little backwards, release it and proceed with firing (if it is necessary, move the bolt with hand forward). 25
Table 9.3 continued Stoppages and their characteristic Misfire The bolt is in front position, cartridge is in cartridge chamber, cocking piece is pulled, but no firing occurred Cause 2 Rust, crumpling or dirt on the cartridge. 3 Obstructions on the moving parts or magazine bends. 4 Release of recoil spring. 1 If there is a deep dent on the primer, the cartridge is faulty. 2 Weak impingement of the striker against the primer or its absence means that the firing pin or firing mechanism are faulty; soiling or thickening of the lubricant. 26 Remedy If it is necessary, clean the cartridge chamber, moving parts, magazine. If the stoppage has been repeated after the magazine cleaning, deliver the rifle to the repair shop. Reload the rifle and proceed with firing. If the stoppage is repeated, inspect and clean the firing pin and the trigger and firing mechanism; if breakage or wear of parts occur forward the faulty rifle to the repair agency.
Table 9.3 continued Stoppages and their characteristic Failure to extract the cartridge-case The bolt is in the medium position, the cartridge case has remained inside the cartridge chamber and sending cartridge is set with the bullet. Gripping or failure to reflect the cartridge case Cause 1 Soiling the cartridge or cartridge chamber. 2 Breakage of extractor or its spring. 1 Soiling the rubbing parts, gas tubes or cartridge chamber. Remedy Unload the rifle and extract the cartridge case from the cartridge chamber by the bolt. If it doesn t work, push out the cartridge case by the cleaning rod head. Clean the cartridge chamber and inspect the extractor, if the extractor is in good repair proceed with firing. If extractor is faulty deliver the rifle to the repair shop. Retract bolt backwards, extract the cartridge case and proceed with firing. 27
Table 9.3 continued Stoppages and their characteristic The cartridge case is gripped between the bolt and receiver or it is moved into the cartridge chamber back. Failure to hold the bolt by bolt stop After the last round is fired, the bolt is not held in the open position and moves forward. Cause 2 Breakage of extractor or its spring. 1 Soiling or impassability of slots for moving the bolt stop. 2 Bending the magazine follower lug. Remedy If stoppage repeats, clean and lubricate the rifle. If the extractor is faulty, forward the rifle to the repair shop. Clean the bolt support and slots, where it moves and proceed with firing. If stoppage repeats, deliver the rifle to the repair shop. Note - In the rifles of the first output cases of doubled shots may occur in view of disconnector absence. 28
The cause of doubled shot is the soiling of sear slots and lugs, where it moves in the trigger cramp. If cases with repeated doubled shots occur, unload the rifle, after that detach the firing mechanism, clean and lubricate it slightly. 9.4 Maintenance in Storage To keep the rifle in a ready- to- fire position it should be always cleaned and lubricated with a thin layer of rifle grease. Store the rifle in the dry heated premises without sharp fluctuation of the temperature, far from heating devices and without aggressive admixtures in the ambient air. To avoid appearance of the residual deformation, the trigger should be pulled. 10 PRESERVATION Date Term of operation Position, name, Name of operation signature preserved 36 months packer 29
