25 Ahto Icebreaker Sternmax The Sternmax vessel mounted Arctic skimmer is the largest & most efficient skimmer of its kind with a recovery rate of over 560 m³/h Installed in under 4 hours to a prepared vessel the Sternmax is able to recover oil in all ice coverage with less than 2% water content.

26 Sternmax Features The innovative isolation grate is designed to block ice on one side and to allow ice to flow away freely on the inner side with the water refused by the oleophilic recovery brushes. The tried and tested Lamor stiff brush has been designed refuse not only water but also varying sizes of ice. The ice dumping tilt feature allows the removal of ice in the case it enters the recovery area. The system utilizes steam heated hoses in the brush scraper, the pump, and the oil transfer hoses. The isolation grate is also steam heated to remove ice before and during operation. Vessel of Opportunity based system allows the Sternmax to be easily transported and installed quickly on numerous vessels.

35 In Development: Arctic OSR Field Testing Lamor and Arctia Shipping are in the process of developing a scientifically structured oil in ice recovery test. The oil and recovery test will systematically examine how a vessel mounted mechanical recovery skimmer works most effectively in varying ice conditions. The test will use tracking buoys to identify the most effective ship position, the best use of thrusters, ship movement in recovery operations, and attempt to classify movement of oil slicks in varying ice coverage during OSR operations. The test will take place in Spring 2015 and Winter 2016 in Northern Finland.
