1 Enabling ActiveX Controls in IE for Shape.Net In order for the some of Shape.Net Software s peripherals to work correctly in Internet Explorer, Internet Explorer must be told to allow ActiveX controls. After going through the following steps, you should be able to successfully control the Starmicronics Receipt Printer and Cash Drawer, Topaz Signature Pad and the Biometric fingerprint scanner (provided those hardware and software installation instructions have already been performed correctly). Click on Internet Explorer's Tools menu, and then on Internet Options.

2 Click on the Security tab, then on Trusted Sites and then the Sites button.

3 Make sure the URL of your Shape.Net site is listed in the Websites box. If not, add it by typing the website address (example: ) in the Add this website to the zone: box and clicking the Add button. Make sure the Require server verification ( for all sites in this zone is checked. Then click Close.

4 Returning to the Security tab with Trusted Sites still selected, click on the Custom Level button. Make sure the following options are checked (you may have to scroll down): Allow previously unused ActiveX controls to run without prompt: Enable Allow Scriptlets: Enable Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls: Disable Binary and script behaviors: Enable Display Video and Animation : Enable Download signed ActiveX controls: Enable Download unsigned ActiveX controls: Enable Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe: Enable Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins: Enable Script ActiveX controls marked as safe for scripting: Enable Then click on OK, and OK again and then close Internet Explorer completely and then restart.

5 Pop-up Blocker Settings Modify the browser s Pop-up blocker settings to allow pop-ups from your Shape.Net application s URL (example: Click on Internet Explorer's Tools menu, and then on Internet Options.

6 Then select Pop-up Blocker and then Pop-up Blocker Settings. Make sure the URL of your Shape.Net site is listed in the Allowed sites: box. If not, add it by typing the website address (example: ) in the Address of website to allow: box and clicking the Add button. Then click Close.

7 Final Notes Some products like the Google toolbar and Yahoo toolbar and MSN Toolbar and AOL Toolbar have settings to block pop-ups. Most Anti-Virus and internet protection suites also have this functionality. You need to make sure these 3 rd party products are not blocking the necessary ActiveX controls needed to run the Shape.Net peripherals. Please refer to the 3 rd party product documentation for instructions on how to control this feature. FIND ALL OF THE POP-UP BLOCKERS ON YOUR COMPUTER Identifying all of the pop-up blockers you have running can take some time, so you'll need to be patient. Some of the pop-up blockers you are likely to have on your computer include the following: Pop-up blocker with Internet Explorer (if you have Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher installed on your workstation) Pop-up blockers on the Google, Yahoo, and MSN toolbars Pop-up blockers included with Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiSpam Additional third party pop-up blockers, such as ZoneAlarm, may also be installed. Instead of being on a toolbar in your web browser, these may appear in your System Tray (on the Windows taskbar at the bottom right of your screen). Hidden toolbars may contain pop-up blockers that are enabled without your realizing it, because you can't see them. To check for hidden toolbars that are not visible on your screen, but are installed behind the scenes, click View > Toolbars in your browser window. A menu similar to the one shown below will display. In the example below, the Google toolbar is not selected, so the toolbar is hidden - you can't see it in the browser window. However, the pop-up blocker for the Google toolbar is still enabled and functioning... which means it's preventing lessons from launching.

8 Hidden toolbars To turn off pop-up blockers on hidden toolbars, select the hidden toolbars. This will enable you to see them in your browser window so that you can turn off the popup blockers. After you identify all of the pop-up blockers on your workstation, you'll need to decide which pop-up blocker you want to use.
