2 ABOUT US: ISGR (incorporating IHGR) is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering the full continuum of education including the Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme. ISGR also offers the Swedish National Curriculum from kindergarten to grade 9 taught in Swedish but with an international profile, and grades 10 to 12 through IHGR, taught in English. Although we offer several different programmes we see ourselves as one school. The students participate jointly in many events throughout the year such as the Nordic Network sports competition and also serving on the Student Council. The students at ISGR/IHGR represent over 60 different nationalities. For more information about the IB Programme please visit their website at We have two campuses for our school, Guldheden houses our Elementary school grades K 5 and the more centrally located Molinsgatan houses students from grade IHGR is also located at our Molinsgatan Campus. Our teachers are drawn from all over the world and share an enthusiasm and special interest in international education. ISGR constantly strives to improve as demonstrated by our achieving the Council of International Schools Accreditation in Our commitment to this ongoing process ensures

3 that our organisation will continue to develop positively and to this end we are currently in the process of seeking additional grades accreditation for IHGR. The school is owned by the Gothenburg Region Association of Municipalities, GR and consists of the municipalities of Mölndal, Partille, Lerum, Kungsbacka, Kungälv, Öckerö, Stenungsund, Tjörn, Alingsås, Härryda, Ale, Lilla Edet and Göteborg. We firmly believe in partnerships, bringing together the whole school community including our staff members, students, parents, the Boards of ISGR and IHGR and our Corporate Group. Mission Statement ISGR/IHGR Mission Statement The ISGR/IHGR is a K 12 school that provides a safe, secure and dynamic, environment preparing students for a successful future. ISGR/IHGR encourages its students to become democratic, responsible, knowledgeable world citizens, who are capable of interacting positively and productively with others. ISGR/IHGR offers an education that balances academic, creative, social and personal growth and achieves critical thinking, informed decision making and purposeful action. MYP the program Students follow courses in the subject groups of: Language A (English with an additional option of Swedish for fluent speakers); Language B (a learned language of Swedish, Spanish or French); Mathematics; Sciences; Humanities (History, Geography, Economics, Global Issues); Design Technology (Information, Design, Food and craft technologies); the Arts (Visual Art, Music and Drama); and Physical Education. We also offer EAL (English As Additional Language) to support those students who are new to English in are in need of extra English language support. Approaches to Learning Represents general and subject-specific learning skills that the student will develop and apply during the programme and beyond. The focus of this area is on teaching students how to learn and on helping students find out about themselves as learners so that they can develop learning skills.

4 Health and Social Education (HSE): Delves into the range of human issues that exists in human societies, such as social structures, relationships and health. The area can be used by students to find out how these issues affect societies, communities and individuals, including the students themselves. Community and Service (CS): Considers how a student engages with his or her immediate family, classmates and friends, as well as in the outside world as a member of these communities. Human Ingenuity (HI): Deals with the way in which human minds have influenced the world, for example, the way we behave, think, interact with each other, create, cause and find solutions to problems, transform ideas and rationalize thought. It also considers the consequences of human thought and action. Environments: Considers how humans interact with the world at large and the parts we play in our environments. It extends into areas beyond human issues and asks students to examine the interrelationship of different environments. The Personal Project The Personal Project takes place in grade 10 and is considered the culmination of the MYP. Students undertake a research project of their own devising, with the aid of faculty advisors, who guide them through this challenging but rewarding process.

5 ISGR Gothenburg Sweden advertised position International School of the Gothenburg Region (ISGR) seeks a Science teacher (100%) effective August 2014 until June 2015 The International School of the Gothenburg Region (ISGR) is a prominent international school and one of 6% IB world schools offering the full International Baccalaureate continuum of learning through three programs: PYP K-5; MYP 6-10; and IB Diploma Program 11 & 12. ISGR was established in 1997 to meet the needs of the growing number of expatriate families coming to Gothenburg for work or study and requiring an International Education for their children. ISGR also offers a Swedish National Program section that follows the LGR 11 national curriculum. Collectively, ISGR has over 1000 students enrolled in its programs. ISGR is owned by the Gothenburg Region Association of Municipalities - GR, and is accredited by the Council of International Schools. Please visit the school website: ISGR is currently searching for an MYP Science teacher for the International section grades This is a full year substitute 100% position for the period August 2014 until June Position Title: Science teaching position Quali fications: Trained Post Graduate Documented experience in IB teaching and curriculum development is preferred. Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential. The person appointed will have: A passion for education and learning, strong initiative, high quality communication and interpersonal skills, focus on targets, excellent organizational skills and the ability to engage the students and teachers through the process of learning. Nature of Role This position is a teaching and leadership role reporting to the Deputy Principal and Principal. The basic function of this role is to plan, teach, assess and support students and teachers through the delivery of the MYP curriculum in a manner which is consistent with the philosophy, policy and practice prescribed by the IB and school. Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities

6 International Section Teacher s Job Description PLANNING AND TEACHING: Develop curriculum, unit plans, long and short term goals and objectives using the IB guidelines and support material individually, in subject teams and across subject areas. Develop effective and varied learning experiences, using varied teaching and learning styles, allowing students opportunities to experience success. Convey content and material clearly and effectively. Demonstrate knowledge of students and their background. Demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy. Demonstrate knowledge of IB subject requirements. Demonstrate knowledge of available teaching and IB resources. Demonstrate flexibility. Encourage students to become actively involved in their own learning. Provides an effective program of instruction based on the instructional needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved and leading to improved student achievement. Demonstrate knowledge of IB philosophy and practices. Be observant of students at risk academically, socially and/or emotionally and contact the advisor, teachers and the Student Support Team. ASSESSMENT: Set clear goals and purposes for assessment and provide student self- reflection opportunities. (Setting criteria, rubrics, portfolios, teacher records.) Provide regular and ongoing feed back. Maintain accurate records. Use a variety of assessment techniques to meet students needs. Assess, record and report to colleagues and parents on the development, progress and attainments of students. Be observant of students at risk academically, socially and/or emotionally and contact the advisor, teachers and the Student Support Team. APPRAISAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Participate in arrangements for appraisal of performance. Review and update methods of teaching and programs of work. Participate in further training and professional development including PGE. Be aware and understand the criteria for salary appraisal. CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT: Create a safe and positive learning environment that encourages an open relationship with and between students. Promote intercultural awareness in classroom teaching and learning.

7 Create an environment with a set of clear objectives that adheres to the ISGR/IHGR behavior policy, classroom goals and expectations of appropriate behavior whilst engaged in school activities. Maintain a visually and stimulating learning environment. Ensure the PYP/MYP program is visually explicit.
