19 Key Messages UK is the global leader in offshore wind, attracting investment from around the world TCE works in partnership with gov t and industry to de-risk and accelerate the offshore wind programme Reducing the cost of offshore wind to 100/MWh by 2020 is challenging but achievable, making OW cost-competitive. Key areas of cost reduction are: turbines, supply chain competition, finance Immediate action and commitment from government and industry is required to deliver cost reduction e.g. policy certainty, test & demo, supply chain bottlenecks, innovation, contracting etc.
20 Key Messages Industry faces significant challenges policy uncertainty, finance, relative cost, consents, grid, supply chain, etc Potential for high levels of deployment, but downside risks Will be competitive tension between OW projects; and also competition with other forms of energy Government can intervene in areas such as political commitment to OW, consenting, grid/coordination, supply chain, finance, transmission charging, R&D etc Need 7-9bn of Levy Control spending by 2020 to hit targets Need to balance short term delivery (to 2020) with longer term innovation (2020s)
