2 Introduction This summer, My New Red Shoes plans to serve 6,000 children! That s right our goal is to provide brand new shoes and clothing to 6,000 homeless and low income children in But, we will only be able to reach that ambitious goal if groups, like yours, consider holding a Sneakers for Success Shoe Drive. Hosting a shoe drive couldn t be easier! My New Red Shoes will provide you with all of the materials you ll need for a successful drive (posters, printed materials and electronic announcements) as well as work with you to set goals and timelines. The shoes that we provide may be the only pair of shoes that these children have to wear during the school year and your collection will make a difference. Founded in 2006, My New Red Shoes provides brand new shoes and clothing to homeless and low income children so that they can begin the school year feeling confident and ready to learn. Over the past five years we have responded to the needs of over 15,000 homeless school age children. The shoes you collect will go to children like Thomas who wore pajamas to school because his mother couldn t afford new pants. Or children like Rachel whose shoes were so worn her toes began poking through the tops. Thank you for your support. Simple Gift. Remarkable Results.

3 Shoe Drive Kit Table of Contents Included in this kit: 1. How to Host a Drive tips 2. Sample posting/ 3. Poster 4. Shoe donation guidelines full page 5. Shoe donation guidelines pocket size (front side and back side) 6. Shoe donation receipts 7. Collection bin sign 8. Stories of the children we serve Are these for me???!! Are you serious??? This was John s response after receiving his new pair of shoes. John is a 14 year old boy, who had spent most of his entire summer taking care of his ill father while his mother worked to make ends meet. John stated this is the best thing that has happened to me this summer. John s father was speechless as he witnessed his son s reaction and started getting teary eyed. John continues to smile and was in disbelief that there are generous people out there that care so much for homeless children Partner Agency

Each child receives a brand new pair of shoes, a $50 clothing gift card, and a special good luck card made by a volunteer offering support and good wishes for the new year. Thank you so much for your support of this partnership! Please contact YOUR for more information.

12 Who We Serve Peter, an eleven-year-old homeless boy, likes to draw, and his favorite subject is math. Peter and his younger sister go to the same school. They both get picked on because of their old clothing and shoes. Their mother, Reina, works a few hours a week as a housekeeper but only makes enough for food and other necessities. Peter and his sister would be really excited to start the school year with a new pair of shoes and new clothes! Brittany is the six year-old daughter of a single mother who recently lost her home to foreclosure. Her mother was laidoff ten months ago and could not keep up with the mortgage payments. She and Brittany had to move into a shelter. Despite difficult changes this year, Brittany has an enthusiastic personality and loves to sing, dance, and play imaginary games. Brittany will soon start first grade and needs clothing that fits. Chris has spent his entire childhood living in foster care and is now starting his senior year of high school. Chris is an independent and hard-working young man who is determined to make a better life for himself and others. Growing up in foster care, he has never had the chance to go back-to-school shopping. New clothing and shoes will give Chris an experience he has never had before starting the school year fresh.

13 Who We Serve Katie is the oldest in a family of three. She has spent most of her life living in poverty. To escape the violence of their dangerous neighborhood, Katie and her family recently moved to San Francisco from Southern California. Their housing here fell through and they had to move to a shelter. Used to sunny and warm temperatures year-round, Katie often shivers at the bus stop in the morning on her way to school. She often gets detention for not having the proper gym shoes. Having new shoes and clothes will make all the difference to a child like Katie! Michael is an energetic five year-old who has been living with his mother and younger sister at a shelter for four months after fleeing domestic violence. The family left in the middle of the night and was not able to bring much clothing with them. Every day, Michael wears the same jeans, which are too small, and a t -shirt. He no longer has a jacket. With your help, Michael can have new shoes and clothing so that he can feel confident and less anxious about starting school. Sophia is an energetic 5 year old who is being raised in a homeless shelter by her single mom. For many children, scuffed up sneakers are a sign that it has been a full day of play and fun. However, Sophia is starting kindergarten in the fall and without new clothes and shoes to start the year, she is nervous about not looking like the other children in her class. You can give Sophia a sense of being well taken care of and help her see school as an exciting new start.
