It s good then that the Roper Rhodes tap ranges are not only beautiful on the eye but superbly well engineered for durability. The WRc are collectively appointed by the UK water supply industry. Designed for low pressure The Roper Rhodes Contemporary Tap Collection has been engineered specifically to address the problem of low pressure water supply. By maximising the flow dynamics within the tap and eliminating bottlenecks, we have succeeded in creating a much more efficient delivery of water at lower pressures. Storm Neo Reef Bora Aero Basin taps (pair) Taps with this symbol are suitable for all plumbing systems including conventional gravity fed ones. Taps with this symbol have a smooth, easy-touse action giving accurate flow control. Quarter turn ceramic taps only require a 90 turn of the handle to move from fully open to closed. This allows you to move the spout from side to side convenient when brushing your teeth, shaving and rinsing the basin and applies to the basin mixers in the Reef, Bora and Aero range only. 11 WATER PRESSURE AND FLOW RATES EXPLAINED TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION Designed for low pressure - Storm and Neo ranges. Plumbing systems can sometimes suffer from poor flow rates. The UK is unique in that many homes are still using the more traditional, low pressure plumbing systems. This type of system is referred to as gravity fed, and is most commonly found in older properties. Often tap manufacturers provide products more suitable for the mainland European market, which tend to use modern high pressure plumbing systems. This raises problems as it conflicts with the low pressure plumbing systems most commonly found within a lot of the homes within the UK. For this reason it is not unusual to have a disappointing flow rate when using taps. We at Roper Rhodes have identified this problem and resolved it by re-engineering our taps so that many of them are now suitable for use with low pressure systems. To help you identify which taps are suitable for low pressure systems, we have created an LP symbol which is denoted beside each tap type. More recently built or renovated homes will often incorporate modern pressurised plumbing systems, and under these circumstances satisfactory flow rates are possible regardless of the type of tap fitted. In order to help identify your own plumbing system and select the right range of taps for you, please read on. When you see the following symbols: Taps with a HP symbol require a minimum pressure of 0. bar* or above Taps with a LP symbol require a minimum pressure of 0. bar* or above *bar (pressure) A unit of measurement for pressure. 0. bar is equal to a metre head of water. In plumbing terms this means, for a gravity fed system, if the base height of your water tank is m above a tap, then you will have 0. bar of water pressure at the tap. Low pressure systems These are more conventional types of plumbing systems, often referred to as gravity fed, and are most commonly found in older properties. Typically, you may have a cold water tank in your loft and a gravity fed hot water cylinder in your airing cupboard. Cold water usually varies in supply from either the mains, or supply from the cold water tank, this also affects the pressure and flow rate of your water supply. If you have a gravity fed system, you must consider the issue of pressure, and the head of water (in metres) dictates the amount of pressure you can achieve in your plumbing system. There is a selection of taps suitable for this type of system and are identified in this brochure with the LP symbol. If you are unsure, we recommend you seek professional advice from your plumber who will advise you on the type of plumbing system you have and the likely water pressures it can achieve. If pressures are too low even for our low pressure (LP) taps, you will be able to increase your water pressure using a suitable water pump, and again your plumber can advise you on this. High pressure systems A typical high pressure system is where you may have a combination boiler, which heats water on demand. Another example is an unvented supply system where water is stored under pressure in a large cylinder. In both of these instances there should be sufficient pressure to give you an adequate flow rate with all our tap ranges. Please note that all products marked low pressure are also suitable for high pressure plumbing systems. For further advice, please consult your plumber. These provide a rapid and easy to use on/off action when compared to conventional valves. Designed for low pressure - Storm and Neo taps are fitted with a special low pressure ceramic cartridge that allows not only a simple to use hot, cold or mixed flow but enables both the flow rate and temperature to be limited if required. 12 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION Neo and Storm taps are supplied with cartridges that can be adjusted to limit water flow rate and temperature. This is particularly useful where water pressures are very high causing splashing when using the tap and will prevent possible scalding from excessively hot water. These diagrams and chart below explain how the Storm and Neo taps can be adjusted to suit your requirements. Taps are supplied with both limiters in the fully open position. There are simple instructions supplied with the tap demonstrating how each tap can be adjusted and /or limited as illustrated (right). Flow rate adjustment TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION Flow straighteners All of our taps are fitted with the very best quality Neoperl flow straighteners to provide a pleasant water stream. Installation, connections and flexible supply hoses All of our taps are simple to install by either a competent DIY er or a qualified plumber. All connections use standard BSP (British Standard Pipe) sizing. Our range of basin mixers are supplied with high quality 0mm long stainless steel braided flexible hoses with mm compression fittings for easy installation. Furthermore, Neo and Storm mixers feature large bore hoses for increased flow rate performance.
