3 TOTAL POLIC I N G Notes The attendance management data was obtained from the MET HR system. The data was downloaded on The Dorset Classification of illnesses was used to record absen ce reasons, The Dorset Catego ry of Psychological D isorders comp rises the following absence reasons: This report relates to MPS pol ice officers either employed or seconded to the MPS. It shows the number of pol ice officer absen ces and work ing days lost recorded as a result of psychological d isorders in the financial year It also shows the average length of these absen ce s. Some police officers may have more than one period of absence due to psychological disorders i n the some financial year. Rather than adjusting for va rious shift patterns, i t is assumed that police office rs work 5 days a week, as do pol ice staff. Hen ce, the number of working days lost i s calculated by multiply ing the calendar days absence by 5/7. Allowance i s made for whether an employee works full - time or part-time by multi plyi ng the working days lost by the full-ti me equivalen ce of the employee. This is one for atoll -timer and pro rata for a part-timer. So, someone worki ng two and a half days a week, would have atoll-t ime equivalence of 0.5. Where METHR does not list the full ti me equivalen ce of the employee, it has been assumed that the employee works full-time. Ex-employees are included if they have a period of illness in the financ ial year while they were still in the employment of the MPS. Where no end date for the sickness was shown on METHR the date of leav ing the MPS has been used as the end date of s ickness. Police forces In th e United Kingdom are routinely req uired to provid e crime statistics to government bodies and the recording criteria Is set nationally. How e ve r, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are th e pro cedures used locally In capturing the crime data. We also have a d uty and emer ge nc y out of hours counsellor to de al with disresse h idivids o reire s pp r t immedie. d The MPS em p loy occupational health advisors who c an advise mers about worpce adjsmes that m i gh t assist individuals i n the work place whilst the y recver. We em p loy 2 psychiatrists who c an offer advise i n re lation to work adjustments and c an offer the GP advice if they fee l i nc orrec t medic ati on has bee n prescried or an increase i n med ic ati on is required. The GP remains the pri m r y crer fr the idivid. We educate managers to c arr y out stress ris k assessments on any i div id ual who is s tr uggli ng to try and keep them at work as the research suggests wor k is good for us. Where mangers lack the experience or confidence to do this effectively, they are supported by the HR Case M anagement team. The MPS also has 2 ed uc ati onal traini ng pce s 'Sh ri nki ng Clouds' which is a sh or t DVD designed for individuals who are e xperie nci ng stress and will provide them with some c opi ng strategies in the sh or t term and some for the longer term management. De liver y time 30 mis. 'The Camels Back' which is designed to provide managers with the tools which arerecommended with the Health and S afe ty Executive (HSE), to listen and p u t i n place interventions that will assist an i nd ivid ual to manage the situations better. ime pprim e De iver ly 1 hr.
