2 Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is the oldest and the largest state university in Indonesia. It was founded on December 19, 1949 and currently is number one university in Indonesia which h a s 1 8 f a c u l e s, 6 9 undergraduate programs, 24 diploma programs, and a Graduate School. Since December 2000, the university has taken a new status as a state-owned legal en ty. UGM is implemen ng as educopolis area, a step taken by universi es in crea ng conducive environment for the con nuity of the learning process. These efforts are pursued in the context of developing mul disciplinary collabora ons and responding to ecological issues in order to achieve the vision of the university.

3 The Special Region of Yogyakarta (known as Daerah Is mewa Yogyakarta) is one of the smallest provinces in the country which has been widely known as the center of Javanese culture as well as the center of learning. It has 3,200,000 inhabitants, 510,000 of whom reside in the city of Yogyakarta. The Special Region of Yogyakarta focuses its development on three inseparable pillars: educa on, culture, and tourism. It has unique landscape which has different characteris c of landscape. Mount Merapi is one of ac ve volcano mount in the world. Urban planning system in Yogyakarta has its own uniqueness than any other provinces in Indonesia. Karst area in Gunung Kidul is one of unique topography in Yogyakarta that was success in cri cal land rehabilita on. Yogyakarta has also beau ful coastal sandy area which shows not only the beau ful scenery of the beach but also the windbreak establishment as technology to create unproduc ve sandy area into produc ve one to farming produc vity.

4 Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) presents the first Eco-Tropical Summer Program 2013 as its commitment to the global challenge on educa on and environment, invi ng foreign students from all of the partner universi es around the globe. This program is to provide overseas college students a pla orm to learn and experience the unique landscape of Yogyakarta as well as culture. Two-week intensive program offers class room lectures to enrich and site visit lectures to deepen the knowledge and understanding of different ecosystem types in Yogyakarta.
