1 SINGER One Plus Embellished Clutch Purse This Embellished Clutch Purse was created using the elongation feature on the SINGER ONE PLUS sewing machine. The machine s elongation feature gives many decorative stitches a whole new look. For quick and easy sewing, stitch the rows using the Parallel sewing foot. A pattern is included with these instructions. Shopping List: ½ yard main purse fabric ½ yard lining fabric ⅝ yard sew-in interfacing All-purpose thread (for construction) Machine embroidery thread (for decorative stitching) Bobbinfil thread (for bobbin) One magnetic snap closure set Tear-away stabilizer SINGER Parallel sewing foot Water soluble fabric marker Ruler Hand sewing needle

2 Sewing Directions: 1. Cut the main purse fabric, interfacing and lining from the attached pattern. 2. Pin the interfacing to the wrong side of each matching fabric section, having raw edges even. 3. Thread the top of the machine and bobbin with all-purpose thread. Machine-baste the sew-in interfacing to the fabric. Hint: To machine baste, select the straight stitch with the length set to the longest setting, and reduce the upper thread tension. So stitching won t need to be removed later, stitch inside of the seam line. (Note: seams are ½ ) 4. Mark dart lines on clutch front and back with the water soluble fabric marker. Mark the placement for the snap closure. 5. Using the ruler and water soluble fabric marker, draw 2 main stitching placement lines on the right side of the flap, as shown: Stitching Fill with stitches on this side of the line Fill with stitches this side of the Stitching 6. Embellishing the Flap with Stitch Elongation: The flap is embellished with several rows of the same stitch that has been elongated in three different sizes. Thread the machine with the machine embroidery thread on the top and bobbinfil in the bobbin. Attach the Parallel sewing foot. Place tear-away stabilizer under the flap before stitching. Select stitch #49. To elongate the stitch to the longest length, press the x3 button on the front of the machine. Stitch using this elongated length along the placement lines. Tear-away Stabilizer Hint: The elongation feature keeps the density of the stitch while increasing the overall length of the stitch pattern. There are eight different stitches that can be elongated, stitch patterns 45 through 63, (see page 32 in the instruction manual). You can elongate the stitch 2 or 3 times the original length, by pressing either the x2 or x3 button on the front of the machine. Notice that the button lights up when the elongation function has been activated. To return to the original size, press the 2 elongation button again.

3 Add more rows of stitching parallel to the first rows. There will be a total of 9 rows of stitching, on each side of the placement lines of the flap. (In the bag pictured in the photo, the center area of the flap does not have stitching.) Alternate the size of the stitches for each row. Use the markings of the foot to easily create parallel rows of stitching. Position the markings on the foot over the top of the first row of stitching, stitch keeping the previous stitches centered in the markings of the foot. Alternate the size of the stitch as follows: Row 1 x3 Row Row 2- Default size (no elongation) Row 3- x2 Row 4- Default Row 5 x3 Row 6 Default Row 7 x2 Row 8 Default Row 9 x3 7. Thread the machine with the all-purpose thread. Attach the All-purpose sewing foot. Select a straight stitch. All seams will be ½ unless otherwise indicated. 8. Flap: With right sides together, pin the flap lining to the flap. Stitch, leaving the top edge open. Trim seams and clip curves. Turn right side out. Press. Attach the 3

4 magnetic closure to the flap following manufacturer s instructions. Baste raw edges together. 9. Darts: With right sides together, fold fabric along dart lines, stitch darts in each front and back sections. Slash darts to within ¼ of point. Press the darts open. 10. With right sides together, pin the flap to the upper edge of the back section, centering along edge and having top raw edges even. Stitch. 11. With right sides together, pin the front to the back, matching dart seams and raw edges. Stitch. Turn right side out. Press. Attach the remaining magnetic closure to the front at marking. 12. Stitch darts in lining sections. Slash darts to within ¼ of point. Press darts open. 13. Pin front and back lining sections together, matching dart seams and raw edges. Stitch, leaving an opening at bottom edge for turning. 14. Slide the clutch inside of the lining, having raw edges even. Pin the top edges together. Stitch. Turn right side out through the opening in the lining. Press. Slip stitch the opening closed. 4
