1 University of Alaska Education and Training Programs for Mining The University of Alaska is committed to preparing today s students for tomorrow, recognizing that tomorrow s careers require advanced skills, greater knowledge, and more flexibility than ever before. Specific to the mining industry, the University offers vocational and technical training as well as advanced degrees. The University of Alaska is unique in its offerings of both core and support education and training programs. Core programs include vocational and technical training directly related to the mining industry as well as Bachelors and advanced education programs directly related to mining, geological engineering, mineral process and geology. Support programs include the broader vocational and technical training and advanced degrees in such fields as welding, engineering, environmental, sciences, management fields, logistics, power, culinary arts, and so on. The University of Alaska established the Mining and Petroleum Training Service (MAPTS) in MAPTS has trained over 50,000 individuals and has offices in Soldotna and Anchorage which serve the entire state. The University of Alaska has recently opened the Training. This Center works in close coordination with MAPTS to provide training.
