2 Look Up hords by Key If you have ever wanted to look up the chords of a song you normally have to look up each chord separately. However, this book groups chords by key so you can see on one page the most common chords you will encounter. Key oot Key Signature Intervals hord unction hord Organization hords are known by their type and function. There a three basic types of chords, or, or, and doant. There are seven categories of chord functions. The simplest chord, called a triad, is made up of three notes. dditional notes can be added to a triad to produce sixth, seventh, and ninth chords. This book organizes chords in rows depending on the how many notes are in the chord. rranged in columns across the top are the names of chord functions. Scale egree oant hord hord Notes () t the bottom of each column is the chord type with its root, as applied to the whole column. lso shown are the notes of the chord s basic triad. The exception is the doant column where four notes of the doant chords are shown. hord Structure hord Type th hords Seventh chords come in three varieties or, or, and doant. ll three types are included on the th row of the page. opyright Tom Michero 011
