What is The Plan? Responsible farming We provide ongoing support and education for farmers to keep their crops and income healthy, and the quality of our coffee exceptional. Since 1962 we have been working with farmers to ensure that our coffee is responsibly produced as well as being of the highest quality. We understand that your customers care about social responsibility, sustainability and the environment so we go that extra step to ensure our entire coffee process from bean to cup is as responsible as possible. We have brought together all of our initiatives that support responsible farming, responsible production and responsible consumption under one umbrella The Plan. We go Beyond the cup to make a difference from farmer to your consumers. Responsible production Our initiatives into energy and water usage, recycling and waste in our factories reduces our impact on the environment. Responsible consumption We help you choose the coffee machine that is most energy efficient for your business, helping reduce our environmental impact and saving your business money.

Why has The Plan been created? Creating shared value is at the core of the NESTLÉ PROFESSIONAL business. In order to create long term value for our business and stakeholders we need to create value for our customers and society. We look at the process from bean to cup to ensure each stage helps the farmer, protects the environment and supports our customers. That s why we will invest 213 million into The Plan from 2010 to 2020 helping to build a better future for everyone. The Plan is about the big picture. Due to our coffee heritage, knowledge and experience, it is our responsibility to engage in every step of the value chain. That s why we have teamed up with Rainforest Alliance. Partnerships allow us to benefit from our collective expertise and knowledge to create a sustainable plan that improves every stage of the coffee making process, from bean to cup.

The Plan in practice... The Plan focuses on the three key stages of the whole coffee process from bean to cup. We focus on responsible farming, responsible production and responsible consumption, making our vision of the future truly sustainable. What we ve done million coffee plantlets distributed in the last decade Just a selection of the countries where we engage with farmers: - Brazil - China - Colombia - India - Indonesia - Ivory Coast - Mexico - Philippines - Thailand - Vietnam What we ll be doing million high-yield, disease-resistant trees by 2020

The Plan in practice... Responsible farming We have been working with farmers since 1962 to ensure our coffee was sourced of the highest quality. The Plan builds on this by doing the following: Teaching 10,000 farmers per year different farming techniques and post harvest practices. Nestlé will source directly 180,000 tonnes of green coffee from 170,000 farmers in 2015 Investing significantly in developing coffee trees that offer farmers better yields. These coffee trees have been selected for their excellent pedigree which means they can produce greater volumes of coffee beans and can have a greater built in tolerance to diseases. Teaching 10,000 coffee farmers per year More coffee beans + Higher quality coffee beans = More income for the farmer and great tasting coffee for your consumers.

The Plan in practice... Responsible production As part of The Plan, we also look to reduce the environmental impact within our production processes. From 2010 to Reduce energy use by 20% per tonne Recycling is big on our agenda new treatment plants produce clean water and convert waste into fertiliser. We have several initiatives to save energy including one where we use coffee grounds for fuel in our factories. The more we use, the less goes into landfill sites and the less we rely on fossil fuels. Reduce water use by 30% per tonne Coffee grounds are used as fuel in our factories The location of our production facilities are also important. 55% of is manufactured in factories in coffee growing countries. This helps local workers acquire new skills and a higher income.

The Plan in practice... Responsible consumption Choosing the right coffee machine can be tricky, especially when considering sustainability and environmental issues. To help you find the right solution for your business, we ve created a Life Cycle Analysis online tool that allows you to easily compare different professional coffee machines in relation to energy and water use as well as the effect it has on climate change. By using the tool, you ll be able to see how your choice of coffee machine can affect both the environment and your bottom line helping you to make the smart choice.

Every cup tells a story... My hope is to teach my children what I have learned Gerardo Areas By working with The Plan, Gerardo was able to introduce new, responsible coffee growing methods to his farm in Nicaragua. He can now use these farming techniques to help reduce the environmental impact. Wang Zhonggxue Wang is a coffee farmer in Dakaihe Village, Yunnan Province China. The Plan has taught Wang modern processing techniques and provided technical assistance to ensure he grows better quality coffee plants. Since working with The Plan Wang has been able to raise his income. He can now afford to buy his own tractor and modern processing equipment allowing him to sustain his success. Senior managers from came to teach us in person Jorge Rafael Garcia Espinosa Jorge Rafael is a supervising technician for The Plan. He works with local farmers to improve their agricultural practices and reduce contamination of the plantations caused by coffee processing residues. The practices he teaches have helped producers to increase yield, improve quality and protect the environment. We help to increase yield, improve quality & protect environment

What will The Plan mean for your business? At NESTLÉ PROFESSIONAL we work alongside you to meet your consumers demands. We know that means more than just providing quality products we need to go above and beyond the product. That is what The Plan does.
