2 Rebel XT Set Up Guide This guide is designed to familiarise the user with the process of setting up a Rebel XT logger. The complete procedure is considered in detail and important markers at each stage highlighted. The guide begins by assuming the required Vehicle Structure has already being created and concentrates on the process for using this to configure the Rebel XT. There are two possible methods using DiaLog for reconfiguring a Rebel data logger. The first uses a direct connection with the logger, either USB or Bluetooth. The second utilises DiaLog to prepare an SD card to be inserted in to the Rebel, which will then automatically reconfigure logger. 3 Direct Reconfiguration This process assumes the required Vehicle Structure is prepared and situated in the Local Database and that the USB connection will be used. However the complete process is also possible via the Bluetooth connection. The complete procedure is considered below. With the Rebel XT unplugged from the USB and powered down ensure the SD card is inserted properly. Connect the logger to a power supply to fully power up. (Ensure the logger is not operating in limited mode only the logger must not be powered by the USB, which should disconnected at this time.) Ensure the Rebel XT is fully powered up and the LCD screen states either IDLE or Logging, confirming the logger is operating fully. Open DiaLog. Connect the Rebel XT to the computer using the USB cable. (Bluetooth can be utilised instead here to establish a connection to the logger.) DiaLog will automatically recognise the Rebel XT. The connection will be confirmed by the software automatically switching to the Rebel tab and the status bar stating Rebel online. The Rebel LCD screen will state RBLXXX > USB. (RBLXXX > BTH for Bluetooth.) If the connection is recognised please refer to our Driver Installation Guide to ensure the device drivers are correctly installed. The guide can be found here: If you wish at this stage the SD Card can be formatted. This is performed using the Rebel window accessed using the Rebel toolbar icon. Click Format SD - Rebel LCD will state Formatting %. If the Rebel has been formatted, it should at this point be power cycled for 5 seconds. Ensure the USB cable is removed and power down. When fully powered back up the LCD will state Rebel XT No Vehicle. LED F2 will not be lit. Reconnect the USB cable. DiaLog will switch to the Rebel tab when connected and state No Vehicle. Locate the required Vehicle Structure in the Local Database. If the Vehicle Structure contains Stream Data and is not a current revision already uploaded to SureFleet then the structure must be uploaded. This performed using either the right click menu, the Server Navigation Bar menu or the SureFleet toolbar icon.

4 The Vehicle Structure can now be sent to the Rebel. This is performed using the right click menu or the Send to Rebel toolbar icon. The Rebel LCD will state Reconfiguring. Once completed the Rebel LCD will state IDLE or Logging if connected to the correct data source for the configuration. DiaLog will return the Rebel tab and display the Vehicle Structure just uploaded. The USB can be disconnected. Warning: The Rebel XT should never be powered up with the USB connected when it is required to fully power up. The USB should only be connected if Limited Mode operation is required or after the Rebel has been fully powered up. The above procedure will ensure the Rebel is successfully reconfigured. Once complete it is possible to monitor the status of the logger using the LEDs. The default allocations or considered below. (Note: if LEDs have been assigned to triggers, then the defaults are overridden.) F1. CAN MS/INST traffic. F2. On valid configuration. F3. Instrumentation Board active. F4. GPS status flashes slowly when acquiring data. F5. CAN HS Bus traffic. Status. On waiting, Flash ready USB/Bluetooth. On connected, Flash activity SD Card. On connected, Flash activity

5 SD Card Preparation The second method involves directly uploading the Vehicle Structure to an SD card. Insert the SD card to be used in the Rebel into the PC s SD card reader. The upload is performed using the SD Card window accessed using the SD Card icon. The window contains two main panels, the left hand panel SD Card Drives lists all available SD cards. The right hand panel Vehicle Structures lists all the Vehicle Structures located on the selected SD card. Uploading a Vehicle Structure to the SD Card Downloading a Vehicle Structure from the SD Card Selecting the Active Vehicle Structure Formatting the SD Card Allows the user to upload the selected Vehicle Structure from the Local Database panel to the selected SD card. It can be used to prepare SD cards for use in a Rebel when the current one becomes full, allowing a direct swap. Allows the user to download a copy of the selected Vehicle Structure from the SD card into the open Project in the Local Database panel. Allows the user to designate the selected Vehicle Structure to be the active structure. When the SD card is inserted in to a Rebel it will automatically reconfigure itself using the active structure. This feature allows Rebels to be remotely reconfigured using a pre-prepared SD card. Provides the facility for the user to fully format the selected SD Card, removing all data from the SD card.

6 This ability to independently load the required Vehicle Structure to the SD card allows Rebel data loggers to be remotely configured using pre-prepared SD cards. When an SD card containing a Vehicle Structure is inserted in to a Rebel it will automatically reconfigure itself using the Vehicle Structure on the SD card. If there is more than one structure present the Rebel device will configure itself using the Vehicle Structure currently set to active. Influx Technology recommends the use of SanDisk SD cards to ensure reliable performance. The SD cards recommended for use with the Rebel are: SanDisk Ultra 2GB or 4GB Alternative cards should work, but are not tested. Note: Vehicle Structure priorities between the Rebel and SD card An active structure on an SD card will always take priority over the Rebel. However, if a blank SD card is inserted into a Rebel with a structure on-board this will automatically be loaded to the SD card.
