Cuyahoga Community College Application for Admission / Readmission International Student Transfer-In Form Filled in by your current Institution International Student Application for Admission / Readmission Proof of English Language Proficiency Please submit one of the following below: Tri-C Institutional COMPASS Placement test: (If currently in the U.S) TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Paper-Based, Internet-Based Test or Computer-Based Test IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic Test ACT Standardized Test SAT Standardized Test Transfer credit in College-level English with a grade of "C" or better from an accredited U.S. college or university Original and Official high school diploma or certificate and secondary school transcripts/grade reports. If the originals are not in English, you must provide copies in the original language and original official translations. High School graduation or equivalent is required. Photocopies and scans that you make yourself are not acceptable.. Original Official transcripts from all foreign and U.S. colleges or universities previously attended or that you are currently attending. Transcripts from U.S. colleges or universities must be mailed directly by the school to your International Student Coordinator. If the originals are not in English, you must provide copies in the original language and original official translations. Photocopies and scans that you make yourself are not acceptable. Copy of passport (and VISA if applicable) must be legible and clear. Original bank statement in your name or the name of your sponsor indicating the balance in the account. The estimated budget for all expenses, including tuition for one year, is $26, The bank statement(s) you provide must indicate a minimum of $26, The bank statement must include the name of each sponsor as well as contact information for the bank. Financial documentation must be dated within six months of your requested start date. Sponsor s Statement of Support necessary if the bank statement is not in the student s name. U.S. sponsors must submit an original Affidavit of Support (Form I-134). All questions on this form should be completed including exact sponsor contribution towards student s education and living expenses. OR Overseas sponsors must provide an official statement, certified by a bank, stating the sponsor s relation to the student and specific intended contributions towards the student s education and living expenses. *All statements must be submitted in English * *Estimated budget expenses are subject to change without notice*

2 English Proficiency Requirements The standards for admission to Cuyahoga Community College for International Students have currently changed. Proof of proficiency testing in English is now required to receive an I-20 for both F1 Academic Admission and for English as a Second Language Training Admission. For the Academic Year 2016, the following assessments are accepted for prospective students Admission to Cuyahoga Community College for Academic Studies: Students who have met a certain level of English proficiency, you may be admitted to the College for Academic Studies to study on an I-20 for your declared major. Students studying with an I-20 in Academic Studies may be approved for up to 30 months. To be considered for admission for Academic Studies in your major, prospective students must submit their current level of English proficiency in the form of one of the following assessments by meeting, or exceeding, the following scores: TOEFL (ibt, internet test): 79 (no sub-score can be less than 18)* or above TOEFL (computer based test): 213* or above TOEFL (paper test): 550* or above IELTS (academic test): 6.0* or above ACT: 18 or above (in Reading)* SAT: 430 or above (in Reading)* Cuyahoga Community College Compass Test (If currently in U.S) - Placement into ENG 1010 or above Transfer credit in College-level English with a grade of "C" or better from an accredited U.S. college or U.S. University *Scores are valid up to two years from the test date Admission to Cuyahoga Community College for English as a Second Language training: For students who have not met the test scores of the above English proficiency requirement (via TOEFL, IELTS, ACT, SAT, or placement testing), you may be admitted to the College for language training to study on an I-20 for English as a Second Language (ESL). Students studying English as a Second Language may be approved for an I-20 up to 18 months and will be able to maintain F-1 status with full-time ESL. Upon completion of English as a Second Language (ESL) Level III, students will receive a Certificate of Achievement through the Registrar s Office. Students will then be able to change education levels and receive an I-20 to pursue an Associates degree in their field of choice. To be considered for admission for ESL, prospective students must submit proof of their current level of English proficiency using one of the following assessments listed below for review by Cuyahoga Community College: TOEFL (computer, paper, or internet)* IELTS (academic only)* ACT* SAT* Cuyahoga Community College Compass Test (If currently in the U.S) *Scores are valid up to two years from the test date

9 Financial Information for F1 International Students Before an international student is admitted to Cuyahoga Community College, the student or student s sponsor(s), must provide documentation that the necessary funds are available for tuition and living expenses. If you are admitted, Cuyahoga Community College will then provide you with a document known as the Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status - For Academic and Language Students, also called an I-20 for short. Listed below are estimates for these expenses. The expenses of any individual student may vary from the figures below, however these are average costs each student should be prepared to meet. This includes tuition & fees, living expenses, expenses of dependents, health insurance, and other miscellaneous expenses. You must be able to prove that you have immediate funds available to cover this amount. You can validate the financial requirement by showing one of the following items: Self-Sponsoring, through a Scholarship, having a U.S. Sponsor, or from a Sponsor Living outside the United States. Self-Sponsoring - the funds are in your name o If you have these funds that meet the requirement for admission in your own checking or savings account, you are financially supporting yourself. You need to only carry with you your original and official bank statements. Scholarship to attend Cuyahoga Community College o If you have received a scholarship to attend Cuyahoga Community College, it is necessary for you to provide a confirmation letter in your name that scholarship aid will be available as long as the academic program is pursued. U.S Sponsor this is a sponsor that lives in the United States o If you are financially supported by an individual in the U.S., you will need to carry with you a notarized I-134 form along with the U.S. Sponsor s original and official bank statements. We have included the I-134 form in this packet for you. Sponsor Living outside the United States o If you are financially supported by an individual(s) that live outside of the United States, sponsors must provide an official bank statement and letter of intent. These documents should be certified by a bank stating the sponsor s relation to the student and specific intended contributions towards the student s education and living expenses. We have included an example letter for your reference. Cuyahoga Community College estimates the student s average estimated costs for each academic year to be: Minimum for Tuition and fees $6, Living expenses $16, Other: Health Insurance $3, TOTAL ESTIMATED ANNUAL BUDGET: $26, This estimate does not include expenses required if issuing I-20 s for dependents. If a student wishes to include his/her family, an additional $5,000 is needed for the spouse and an additional $3,000 is needed for each child. The College does not provide financial aid, assistance, or grants, to international students - nor do we provide on-campus housing. For assisting with the cultural adjustment, emotional support, living, and financial support; it is recommended that students have a local contact or sponsor who can assist with finding housing and transportation. The Living Expenses amount must be provided even if the prospective student will be living with the sponsor. If you have more than one sponsor, required financial documents must be submitted from each sponsor. Although you need only enough expenses to meet the financial requirement for one year, it is assumed you will have a comparable amount available for each year of study. Medical care in the United Stated can be costly. Each international student (and any accompanying dependents) is expected to purchase health insurance to meet medical expenses while in the United States.

10 SAMPLE LETTER FOR SPONSOR LIVING OUTSIDE OF U.S.A. The following information is a sample of what should be included in a basic letter of sponsorship that is written and completed by the sponsor. You will want to re-type this letter with the applicant and sponsor s information in the bolded text. For further information on preparing a sponsorship letter for your visa interview, please contact the American Embassy in your home country. 13 Fall Summer 2016 Tuition and Fees Schedule F-1 international students are considered Out-of-State residents for tuition & fees calculations. Based on the approved state of Ohio budget, Cuyahoga Community College tuition and fees for the academic year will remain the lowest in Northeast Ohio, among the lowest in the state and below the national community college tuition average. Educational Subsidies from the State of Ohio Investment in Instruction and Access Challenge programs provide approximately 28 percent of Tri-C s unrestricted revenues. These subsidies enable Tri-C to keep your tuition low. All fees are subject to change by the College Board of Trustees. Certain courses have supplemental fees. Books are not included in this chart and will be an additional cost.
