1 AH 119 Medical Terminology Orientation Welcome, I am Chris Ivy, your navigator for this class. This is an online language course so you should plan to study at least 50 hours a week to be successful in this class. Sounds like a lot. IT IS! This is a college level course. The 50 hours/week is given as estimate of time on how many hours a week it will take to be successful in this course, but it is really up to the student. Some students have good study skills, are good in language skills, have had previous experience, and etc. so they may take less time. This course is a beginning course and is often taken by just out of high school students or students who have been out of school for a long time and they do not realize how much time a college level course takes. Later in the course, students really pick up their studying skills and much less time is needed to be successful if they have not fallen behind. The biggest reason students do not do well in this class is that they fall behind. This course demands daily studying. You must be a self-starter and motivated to put in the time. Keep a calendar and put down times you plan to study in this class; for example, Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am 6:00 pm. Many students do very well and complete this class earlier than recommended, but they put in the time. I wish you much success. Log in Page: Use as your favorite. The access code/key that comes with your bundled textbook is needed to take any quizzes and access the Student Resource. If you are using a used textbook, you may want to purchase from the bookstore. See Ray Hancock, YVCC Bookstore Buyer. The syllabus has the textbook ISBN number. Middle of the page: Public Announcements. Jacqueline Staley, technology advisor for YVCC Angel will update Angel information in this section. If you are having home computer problems with Angel, please contact Jacqueline Staley, jstaley@yvcc.edu or phone Please speak slowly, leave a message and a phone number or which you can be reached at. The blue lettering will give you dates for which chapter you should be on and when to take the test for that chapter. These dates are recommended times only so that you complete the course on time. You must take all tests, 65 tests by the deadline, to earn a grade in this course. Many of the tests are only around questions. You may work ahead and finish early. It is extremely important that you keep up. Quizzes may be taken twice, may be taken at home, are open book and count 40% of your grade. Exams may be taken only once, must be proctored in an YVCC computer lab (or as arranged), are closed book and count 60% of your grade. The last day to take any tests is the Tuesday of finals week. On that Tuesday, the quizzes will turn off at 11:55 pm and the exams are due when the proctor is not available. If you live outside of Yakima, Sunnyside, or Grandview you may arrange for a proctor. See below instructions to arrange for a proctor, a person who gives you your exams. At the top of the calendar page, please see format. If you click on list, the Calendar will be listed instead of a grid format. If you left click on the mouse, you may block & print the information. Colleges or library may consider proctoring you. The Ellensburg Public Library is wonderful to our students who live in the Ellensburg area. Please be kind to them. Please have the proctor site fill out the application then fax it to Jacqueline Staley for approval. Family or Friends are not able to proctor.
