CSC112 (F) / Page 1 of 5 INTI COLLEGE MALAYSIA CERTIFICATE IN COMPUTING AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMME CSC 112 : FUNDAMENTALS OF PROGRAMMING FINAL EXAMINATION : DECEMBER 2002 SESSION This paper consists of SIX questions. Attempt any FOUR. All questions carry equal marks. Question 1 Explain what does the following function do? int multbytwo(int x) { int retval; retval = x * 2; return retval; Explain the THREE expressions in a for loop statement. (3 marks) How do you decide which data type to use in your program? (3 marks) What is the output for the following fragment? int i = 0; while (i < 5) { if (i < 3) { i += 2; printf("%d\n", i); continue; else { printf("%d\n", i); break; printf("bottom of loop\n" ); (e) Write the function distance that calculates the distance between two points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2). All numbers and return values should be of type float. This function must be accompanied with the main program, which is to acquire the necessary input, and also to display the result.

CSC112 (F) / Page 2 of 5 Question 2 What are the TWO different kinds of division that the / operator can do? Under what circumstances does it perform each? What are the definitions of the ''Boolean'' values true and false in C? (2 marks) Name THREE uses for the semicolon in C. (3 marks) What would the equivalent code, using a while loop, be for the example for(int i = 0; i < 10; i = i + 1) printf("i is %d\n", i); (e) What is the numeric value of the expression 3 < 4? (1 mark) (f) What is the line #include <stdio.h> at the top of a C source file for? (2 marks) (g) State THREE reasons for the use of comment statement. (3 marks) (h) Why is indentation important, and explain briefly, how carefully does the compiler pay attention to it? What are the largest and smallest values that can be reliably stored in a variable of data type (16-bit) int? (1 mark) Question 3 Write a code fragment, which would produce the phrase ''You have Passed!'' if the variable name score is greater than or equal to 50 or the phrase ''You have Failed!'' if score is less than 50. Identify if the following variable names are valid? If invalid, explain why. temperature cost of living (iii) \$deposit (iv) _weight (v) percent%_raise

CSC112 (F) / Page 3 of 5 Evaluate the following expressions, given a = 5, b = 3, c = 2. result = (++a) + (++b) (++c) result = (a++) + (++b) (++c) a (iii) result = (++a) * (b++) / c % c (6 marks) Trace the output for the following program. #include <stdio.h> int main() { int x = 28, y = 5, z; z = (x == y); printf("%d\n", z); z = (x++) - 5; printf("%d\n", z); y = (z++) + (x++); printf("x = %d, y = %d, z = %d\n", x, y, z); return 0; (e) Convert the sentences below into computer expression form. Question 4 3y 2 x = z(5y + 8) z y + z x = + 5z 3 4 xy Write the algebra expression into operator precedence. 3b% d 2e a = f * g abc def s = + z% x 9xy

CSC112 (F) / Page 4 of 5 Write a declaration for each of the following: address of type array of character with maximum 50 characters grade of type character (iii) age of type integer (iv) rm of type float. (v) radius of type double Given the table below: Option Message 1 Strongly Agree 2 Agree 3 Disagree 4 Strongly Disagree 5 No Opinion Draw the flowchart for the above table to show the program logic. (6 marks) Write a switch statement using variable option to output messages according to the above table. Question 5 Explain the meaning of each of the following function prototypes: int f (int a); double f (double a, int b); (iii) void f (long a, short b, unsigned c); (iv) char f (void); (v) unsigned f (unsigned a, unsigned b); Define a function hypotenuse that calculates the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle when the other two sides are given. The function should take two arguments of type double and return the hypotenuse as a double. Note: You are required only to use the math library functions to calculate. Write a function that returns true if an input string is a palindrome of each other. A palindrome is a word that reads the same backwards as it does forwards (e.g. ABBA).

CSC112 (F) / Page 5 of 5 Question 6 An array has been initialized as follows: int sequence[] = {9438, 3216, 416, 9021, 1142, 3316, 94; The following are some questions relating to array initialized above: Write a function named search with the following function definition: int search( int s[], int num, int ARRAY_SIZE); This function will search whether the variable number being passed to this function is inside the array or not. If the number is found the value 1 will be returned, otherwise the function will return the value 0. Write a function named sort with the following function definition: void bubble ( int a[], int ARRAY_SIZE); This function will sort the array a[] using the bubble sort method. Write the calling statement for the following: A call to the function search as mentioned in. A call to a bubble sort function as described in. THE END Csc112dec02f (reformat) Msw/thiru
