2 Rotterdam Business School (RBS) TMA is part of the Rotterdam Business School, the international school of the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. The school consists of: - Trade Management for Asia (TMA) (English and Dutch stream) - International Business and Management Studies (IBMS) (only English stream) - International Business and Languages (IBL) (English and Dutch stream)

3 Starting September 2017 The Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences will be housing all economics programmes on the Kralingse Zoom campus, which will then be called the new Rotterdam Business School.

5 The origin of TMA TMA originated 17 years ago as an answer to the need for business people who could serve as a bridge between companies in The Netherlands and Asia. With the growth of the economic power of Japan, the up-and-coming economies of China, India and South Korea, and the growth of outsourcing to countries such as India, China, Indonesia and Vietnam, Dutch companies found themselves more and more in need of individuals who could understand and do business with their Asian partners.

8 Forms of education Knowledge-driven education (where the student gains knowledge, learns concepts, methods and skills) Practice-driven education (where real-life cases teach the student how to put their knowledge into proctice) Student-driven education (where the student chooses his/her own preferred subjects to add a personal touch to the study pallet. E.g. elective classes) As the programme progresses, the knowledge-driven part decreases and the practice-driven part increases.

10 Student-driven education 6 electives spread over year 1 and 2: Over 300 electives offered at Rotterdam University (about 40 in English) Dutch is a mandatory elective for international students who don t speak Dutch Some degree of freedom in the choice of subjects when studying abroad Study career coaching: focus on self-development throughout the entire study programme

Last semester of year 3 and the first semester of year 4 Study abroad at carefully selected and highly accredited universities in Asia: Beijing & Shanghai, Tokyo & Osaka, Jakarta, Yogyakarta & Surabaya, Kuala Lumpur Internship in: China Indonesia Malaysia Singapore Japan Beijing, Shanghai, Hongkong Jakarta, Yokyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar Kuala Lumpur Tokyo, Osaka, and surrounding areas (for example Kobe, Nagoya en Yokohama)

13 Admission requirements 1. HAVO/VWO (with Economics or Management & Organisation) or the international high school equivalent The Admissions Department will evaluate diploma s achieved outside Th Netherlands 2. MBO, level 4 3. For international students: English language test* (IELTS 6.0, TOEFL ibt 80, Cambridge CAE) *Exemptions can be given 4. Admission for 21+ Requires compentency testing Deficiencies in English or Economics? Register before the 1st of May Deficiency classes and tests take place before the 1st of June 2016

14 Enrolment Dutch and EU students: Request your DigiD via All other students need to apply through the Centre of International Affairs See HR website under enrolment Enrolment before May 1st = acceptance if you meet the requirements Enrolment after May 1st = study programme decides if the student gets accepted After enrolment, you will receive an invitation for a study programme check (online questionnaire plus motivation essay) and an interview with a study career coach. This is a mandatory part of enrolment!
