7 CHAPTER 1 Quick Start Guide This Quick Start Guide provides simple steps to get started configuring and managing the Lumio Crystal Touch Screen settings using the Lumio Crystal Touch Manager ( CTM ) application. Components: CTM, Lumio Crystal Touch screen, USB/RS 232 cable NOTE: For MAC/Linux OS: Configure the Crystal Touch Screen settings described in this Quick Start guide below in a Window OS environment. After completion, connect the Crystal Touch Screen to the MAC/Linux computer. 1. Connect the Lumio Crystal Touch Screen to the PC with the USB/RS 232 cable. 2. Download CTM from the Lumio website: 3. Install CTM: Double click the icon on the desk top and follow instructions. 4. For RS 232 interface: Configure the Communication interface for RS 232: a. Select the Communication Interface icon in the CTM Main window Figure 1.1. Main Window b. Select the RS 232 radio button in the window that opens. c. Select a port from the Port drop down menu. d. Select OK. e. Close and restart CTM. NOTE: When using the Crystal Touch screen with an RS232 serial connection, the CTM must be running as it acts as a driver. 5. Configure the Operating System: In CTM navigate to: Main > Advanced > Functional Settings. Select an Operating System from the Touch Type dropdown menu. 6. Configure Screen Rotation: In CTM navigate to: Main > Advanced > Geometry. Select the required rotation. 7. For Dual Sensor systems: Configure the Sensor Orientation: In CTM navigate to: Main > Calibration > Sensor Orientation. Select the required sensor orientation. 8. Calibrate the Touch Screen: In CTM navigate to: Main > Calibration. Select Full Calibration (For Quad Sensor Systems) or Hi Resolution/Full Resolution (For Dual Sensor Systems). 9 CHAPTER 2 Installing Crystal Touch Manager This section describes how to install the Lumio Crystal Touch Manager application. This section includes: Installing Crystal Touch Manager on page 7 Configuring Crystal Touch Manager to Start Up Automatically when the Computer is Powered Up on page 9 Installing Crystal Touch Manager Install the Crystal Touch Manager application in the following instances: When using a Serial (RS232) communications interface, as Crystal Touch Manager serves as a driver To configure or modify the Crystal Touch Controller settings The installation process uses the familiar installation wizard found in many applications. To install Crystal Touch Manager: 1. Download the Crystal Touch Manager file from the Lumio website and select Run or: Insert the Crystal Touch CD into the CD drive. The Lumio General Installation window opens. Figure 2.1. Lumio General Installation Window 2. Select Install Crystal Touch Manager, and select Run. The installation process starts and the Setup - Crystal Touch Welcome window opens. NOTE: If the Lumio General Installation window does not load automatically, double-select the CrystalTouchSetup.exe file using Windows Explorer. Lumio Crystal Touch Manager for Windows User Guide 7

10 Installing Crystal Touch Manager Figure 2.2. The Setup - Crystal Touch Welcome Window 3. Select Next. The Lumio License Agreement window opens. 4. Select Next to accept the terms of the agreement. The Select Destination Location window opens. 5. Select Next to install the installation files in the default location (Alternatively choose another location by selecting Browse and selecting a new location, and then select Next). The Select Start Menu Folder window opens. 6. Select Next to create a CrystalTouch Manager shortcut folder. (Alternatively type another Shortcut Folder name and select Next). The Select Additional Tasks window opens. NOTE: The Create Desktop and Create a Quick Launch icons are created by default. 7. Select Next to create the additional icons OR select on an icon descriptor to deselect the icon, then select Next. The Ready to Install window opens. 8. Review the installation settings and select Install. The Microsoft Visual C Redistributable module ensures that all the required C++ modules that the system installation requires are available on the PC. Those that are not available are installed and the Completing the Crystal Touch Manager Setup Wizard window opens. 8 Lumio

If the Launch CrystalTouch Manager box is checked, Crystal Touch Manager starts automatically. Configuring Crystal Touch Manager to Start Up Automatically when the Computer is Powered Up Automatically startup Crystal Touch Manager (CTM) each time the computer is powered up, if the CTM is interfacing via the Serial Interface, and serving as a driver. This section includes: Automatically starting up Crystal Touch Manager each time the computer is powered up in a Windows XP OS environment on page 9 Automatically starting up Crystal Touch Manager each time the computer is powered up in a Windows 7 OS environment on page 10 Automatically starting up Crystal Touch Manager each time the computer is powered up in a Windows XP OS environment Add CTM to the Startup folder. This will automatically start up CTM each time Windows XP is powered up. NOTE: Once added to the Startup folder, CTM will be viewed in the System Tray. To add Crystal Touch Manager to the Startup folder: 1. Navigate to Start > Programs. The Programs menu opens. 2. Locate the Startup folder in the Programs menu. 12 Installing Crystal Touch Manager 3. Right click on the Startup folder and select Open. The Startup window opens. 4. Navigate to the File menu > New > Shortcut. The Create Shortcut window opens, including a dialog box. 5. Click the Browse button. The Browse for Folder window opens. 6. Specify the CTM program path in the Browse for Folder menu. NOTE: The default location for the CTM program path is C:\Program Files\CrystalTouch Manager\LumioSetTC.exe (When C is the partition that Windows XP is installed on). 7. After specifying the program path, select Next and then Finish. A new shortcut (computer icon) for CTM is displayed in the Startup folder. 8. Right click on the CTM shortcut and select: Properties > Run Combo box > Minimized >OK. 9. Close the Startup folder. The next time the computer starts, CTM will run automatically and will be displayed in the system tray. Automatically starting up Crystal Touch Manager each time the computer is powered up in a Windows 7 OS environment Add a startup folder (For Current User or for All Users) to CTM from the Startup folder to have it run or open at the startup of Windows 7. To add a startup folder for CTM: 1. Right click on the.exe file of CTM. The CTM Start up menu opens. 2. Select Create Shortcut. 3. Open the Start Menu. 4. Navigate to: Click on All Programs > Startup folder. 10 Lumio

15 CHAPTER 3 Using Crystal Touch Manager The Lumio Crystal Touch Manager is an application that enables users to configure and manage the Lumio Crystal Touch Screen settings. Requirement Before launching Crystal Touch Manager, connect the Crystal Touch Controller to a USB or RS232 port on the computer (To connect the Crystal Touch Controller to a USB or RS232 port, see Setting the Communications Interface on page 15). To launch Crystal Touch Manager 1. Navigate to: Start > Programs > CrystalTouch Manager > CrystalTouch Manager OR: Double-click the Crystal Touch Manager desktop icon or the Quick launch icon in the system tray. The Crystal Touch Manager Main window opens and the system controller status is displayed as connected in the Status Bar (See Figure 3.1 on page 14). 16 Using Crystal Touch Manager The Crystal Touch Manager Main Window The Crystal Touch Manager Main window provides access to system options that configure and fine-tune the Crystal Touch screen. Figure 3.1. Crystal Touch Manager Main Window The Crystal Touch Manager Main window includes the following fields: Title Bar - Contains the window title and buttons to minimize, maximize and exit the application Communications Interface Icon - Enables selection of the communications interface between USB to RS232 and visa versa - only enabled and visible for a Crystal Touch Controller including RS 232 communications interface capability User button - Accesses user settings Advanced button - Accesses user settings Calibration button - Set up and calibrate the Crystal Touch screen from the Calibration button Status Bar - Reports the status of the Crystal Touch screen. When the touch screen is connected the status is displayed as Connected Support button - Provides support features Login button - The Administrator login (for Administrator use only) About button - Displays the system versions, serial number and controller information 14 Lumio

17 Using Crystal Touch Manager Setting the Communications Interface By default, the Crystal Touch screen is connected to a USB port on the PC. The Crystal Touch screen can be connected to a serial RS 232 port on the PC. This section includes: Configuring Serial RS 232 as the Communications Interface section on page 15 Restoring USB as the Communications Interface section on page 17 Configuring Serial RS 232 as the Communications Interface Requirement Ensure that the Crystal Touch Controller includes RS 232 communications interface capability. Figure 3.2. Crystal Touch Manager Main Window (USB Connection) To select RS 232 as the communications interface: 1. Open Crystal Touch Manager. 2. Select the Communications Interface icon from the Crystal Touch Manager Main window (See Crystal Touch Manager Main Window (USB Connection) on page 15). 18 Using Crystal Touch Manager The Expanded Communications Interface window opens, displaying a default Baud Rate of and a default Frame Rate of 150. Figure 3.4. Expanded Communications Interface Window To modify the default Expanded Communications Interface window settings: a. Select a port from the Communication Port dropdown menu. a. Select a Baud Rate value from the Baud Rate drop down menu. b. Select a Frame Rate value from the Frame Rate drop down menu. 5. Select OK. The Change Comm. Interface window opens. Figure 3.5. Change Comm. Interface Window 6. Select OK to confirm the changes. Crystal Touch Manager closes. 7. Restart Crystal Touch Manager. When the Crystal Touch Manager Main window opens, the newly configured communications interface is displayed. 16 Lumio

Crystal Touch Manager Main Window (Serial Connection) NOTE: When using the Crystal Touch screen with an RS232 serial connection, the Crystal Touch Manager software must be running (we recommend adding the manager to the startup folder).this is only necessary for the RS232 connection as the Crystal Touch Manager driver only remains memory resident as long as the PC is powered up. Restoring USB as the Communications Interface To restore USB as the communication interface: 1. Open Crystal Touch Manager. 2. Select the Communications Interface icon from the Crystal Touch Manager Main window (See Crystal Touch Manager Main Window on page 14). The Select Communications Interface window opens, the current communications interface button checked. 3. Check the USB HID button. 4. Select OK. The Change Comm. Interface window opens. 5. Select OK to confirm the changes. Crystal Touch Manager closes. 6. Restart Crystal Touch Manager. When the Crystal Touch Manager Main window opens, the newly configured communications interface is displayed. NOTE: An alternative manner to restore USB as the communications interface: Right-click the Crystal Touch Manager icon in the system tray > Select Switch to USB > Select OK > Restart Crystal Touch Manager. 20 Using Crystal Touch Manager Logging in as an Administrator Overview Log in as an Administrator to view and modify advanced system features and configurations, such as modifying Filter settings. To log in as an administrator: 1. Select the Login button in the Crystal Touch Manager Main window. The Crystal Touch Manager Administrator Login window opens. Figure 3.7. Crystal Touch Manager Administrator Login Window 2. Type the password received from Lumio in the provided field. 3. Select OK. The Crystal Touch Manager Main window opens including an Administrator pane (instead of the Advanced pane), and the user is logged in as an Administrator. NOTE: The Administrator pane is a portal to selected Administrator settings. 18 Lumio

Crystal Touch Manager Main Window Viewing Information about the Crystal Touch Screen Versions View the software and firmware versions in the About button of the Crystal Touch Manager Main window. This information is important when support is required. To view software and firmware versions: 1. Select About from the Crystal Touch Manager Main window. About CrystalTouch Manager Window To view detailed information regarding panel and controller information stored in the controller: In Administrator mode: Select the small Information icon adjacent to the Serial Number. The Extended About Crystal Touch Manager window opens, displaying detailed information regarding panel and controller information stored on the Crystal Touch Controller. 23 Using Crystal Touch Manager Saving Changes to Settings Any changes made to the system configurations from the Crystal Touch Manager are temporarily saved to the Crystal Touch Controller. However, these changes are not saved when the Crystal Touch Controller is powered down (For example, when the PC is turned off or the USB cable connected to the controller is disconnected from the computer). Therefore, you need to perform specific actions to save changes. To save changes to settings: 1. After modifying a system parameter and exiting the screen, a Save Warning window opens. Figure Save Warning window 2. Select Yes to save the changes. The changes are saved and will be retained after a power down. NOTE: Changes can also be saved at any time by selecting the Save button confirming that you wish to save when the Save Warning window opens. 24 Using Crystal Touch Manager Restoring the Factory Settings Select the Restore Factory Settings function to revert to the original factory settings after modifying system configurations. To restore the factory settings: 1. Select the User button in the Crystal Touch Manager Main window. The User window opens. Figure User Window 2. Select Restore Factory Settings. 25 CHAPTER 4 Configuring User Settings This chapter describes how to configure and modify the User settings. Overview User Settings enable the user to configure selected system settings, in order to adapt the system to specific requirements. User Settings are accessed through either the User window, accessed through the User button in the Main window, or in the Advanced Settings window, accessed through the Advanced button in the Main window. 26 Configuring User Settings Screen Orientation Configure the system orientation settings as either portrait or landscape, in order to correspond with the monitor orientation. To configure the monitor orientation as either portrait or landscape: 1. Navigate to: Crystal Touch Manager Main window > Advanced. The Advanced window opens. 2. Select Geometry. Figure 4.2. Geometry Window The Geometry window includes the following screen orientation options: 0 - Default landscape screen direction 90 - Rotate the screen by Rotate the screen by Lumio

27 Configuring User Settings Rotate the screen by Select the required screen orientation by checking the button next to the required orientation value. 4. Select the Back icon. The Warning window opens (See Figure 4.6 on page 26). 5. Select Yes. The screen orientation configuration is saved. Mouse Key Settings Configure the following Mouse Keys Settings (Screen touches) from the Mouse Keys button of the User pane in the Main window. Distance: Defines the maximum distance between touches for the touch screen to recognize the double touch as a double click. Speed: Defines the maximum time interval required between touches for the touch screen to recognize the double touch as a double click. NOTE: When the Crystal Touch Controller is configured as a Digitizer (Windows 7 and Vista) Mouse Keys is disabled. The right-click is managed by the operating system. To configure the Mouse Key Settings 1. Navigate to: Crystal Touch Manager Main window > User. The User window opens. Figure 4.4. Configure a required setting (Distance and/or Speed) by sliding the sliders or clicking on the bars of the required setting. 4. Select the Back icon to exit the window. The Save Warning window opens. 29 Configuring User Settings Factory Settings The user can restore the original Factory PCB Controller settings, cancelling all settings configured or modified by the user. To restore original (factory) settings: 1. Navigate to: Crystal Touch Manager Main window > User. The User window opens. 2. Select the Restore Factory Settings button. Figure 4.7. 31 CHAPTER 5 Calibrating the Touch Screen Overview This chapter describes how to set up the calibration settings and how to calibrate the touch screen, so that you can accurately select objects using the touch screen. This section includes: Calibrating Dual Sensor Systems on page 29 Calibrating Quad Sensor Systems on page 34 Calibrating Dual Sensor Systems Calibration for Dual Sensor Systems includes: Overview on page 29 Configuring Sensor Orientation on page 29 Calibrating a Touch Screen on page 31 Overview The Crystal Touch Screen is calibrated and ready for use before leaving the factory. Crystal Touch Manager enables the user to calibrate the Crystal Touch screen if necessary. Before calibrating a Dual Sensor system, ensure that the sensor orientation corresponds to the screen orientation. Configuring Sensor Orientation NOTE: This section only applies to Dual Sensor systems. Before calibrating the Touch Screen ensure that the sensor orientation corresponds to the screen orientation. EXAMPLE: When changing screen orientation from portrait to landscape, configure the screen orientation correspondingly (landscape) before calibrating the Touch Screen. To configure the sensor orientation: 1. Navigate to: Crystal Touch Manager Main > Calibration. The Calibration window opens. Lumio Crystal Touch Manager for Windows User Guide 29

Sensors Orientation Window The following sensor orientation settings are available: Up - Sensors on the top left and top right corners of the Touch Screen Down - Sensors on bottom left and bottom right corners of the Touch Screen Left - Sensors on top left and bottom left corners of the Touch Screen 30 Lumio

33 Calibrating the Touch Screen Right - Sensors on the top right and bottom right corners of the Touch Screen 3. Select the sensor orientation setting that corresponds to the Touch Screen orientation. The selected sensor orientation is highlighted. 4. Select OK. Selecting a Calibration Type Crystal Touch Manager enables two types of calibration, Hi Resolution Calibration and Full Calibration. Both calibrations work in a similar manner, but differ in the number of points and their dispersion upon the screen. The recommended method of calibration is Hi Resolution Calibration. 1. Navigate to: Crystal Touch Manager Main > Calibration. The Calibration window opens (See Figure 5.1 on page 30). 2. Select either the Full Calibration or Hi Resolution Calibration buttons. The Calibration Points window opens (See Calibration Window on page 35). 3. Calibrate the Touch Screen (See Calibrating a Touch Screen on page 31) Calibrating a Touch Screen Overview Calibration is performed from the Calibration Points window To perform calibration: 1. Navigate to: Crystal Touch Manager Main > Calibration. The Calibration window opens (See Figure 5.1 on page 30). 2. Select either the Full Calibration or Hi Resolution Calibration buttons. 34 Calibrating the Touch Screen The window consists of a series of calibration points (small crosses). Positioned over the first calibration point is a target icon with a cross-hair in the middle. 3. When a calibration point is covered by the target icon, place a finger directly on the crosshair of the icon. Hold a finger on the cross-hair until the target turns green. 4. Remove the finger. The point is calibrated and the target moves on to the next calibration point. NOTE: When calibrating, touch only the part of the screen you are calibrating. NOTE: Uploaded calibration files can be used to restore previous calibration settings. To upload the current calibration file: 1. Navigate to: Crystal Touch Manager Main window > Calibration. 46 Advanced Calibration Settings Points Files Overview When calibrating a touch screen, Crystal Touch Manager automatically disperses calibration points on the screen, which is suitable for most screen aspect ratios. In non standard screens or installations, such as wide screens, screen aspect ratios differ. Therefore, standard calibration points may not be suitable. Points files are files including customized calibration points, which enable accurate touch screen calibration for non standard screens or installations. A points file contains X,Y coordinates. Each coordinate represents a calibration point on the touch screen. When creating new points file, the X and Y coordinates are displayed in the bottom right corner of the window. The points are stored in a file with a pts extension and are saved as standard text file in a X Y format. Figure 6.9. Navigate to: Crystal Touch Manager Main window > Calibration. The Calibration window opens (See Figure 6.1 on page 38, Figure 6.2 on page 38). 2. Select Advanced. Configure the following parameters in the provided fields of the Points Parameters window: Number Of Points - The number of points to be generated for this calibration setup Lines - The number of lines on which the points are distributed Ratio - The ratio of the number of points to the number of point in the line below. For example by picking a ratio of 2, line 1 would have 7 points, line 2 would have 4 points and line 3 would have 2 points Orientation - Orientation of the calibration. The screen can be calibrated in four ways: Top to bottom Bottom to top Right to left Left to right Start X - Distance in pixels of the first point from the X axis Start Y - Distance in pixels of the first point from the Y axis 6. Select OK. A calibration screen opens with crosses representing the configured points. 7. Select Save in the Create/Edit Points Menu window. The Windows Explorer Save As window opens. 8. Choose a location to save the points file, enter the filename and select Save. The calibration points file is saved with a pts extension, and the Create/Edit Points Menu window opens. 9. Select the X icon. The Create/Edit Points Menu window closes and the Advanced Calibration window opens. 46 Lumio

49 Advanced Calibration Settings Editing a Points File Edit a points file (add or remove points) to comply with system requirements. To edit a points file: 1. Navigate to: Crystal Touch Manager Main window > Calibration. The Calibration window opens (See Figure 6.1 on page 38, Figure 6.2 on page 38). 2. Select Advanced. The Advanced Calibration window opens (See Figure 6.3 on page 39). 3. Select Create/Edit Points File. The Create/Edit Points Menu window opens (See Figure 6.10 on page 45). 4. Select Edit. The Windows Explorer Open window opens. 5. Select the Calibration Points File to be edited > Open. The calibration points appear on the screen. 6. Use the following mouse/key combinations to edit (add or remove) calibration points. Double-click - Adds a new point in the form of a cross. Right-select - Removes a point. Ctrl + double-click - Adds a new point in the form of a cross on the closest calibration line. 7. Select Save. The changes are saved to the edited file using the original file name. NOTE: To save the changes to a new calibration points file, select Save As. In the Windows Explorer Save As window, choose a save location, enter the filename and select Save. 8. Select the X icon. Navigate to: Crystal Touch Manager Main window > Calibration. The Calibration window opens (See Figure 6.1 on page 38, Figure 6.2 on page 38). 2. Select Advanced. The Advanced Calibration window opens (See Figure 6.3 on page 39). 3. Select Create/Edit Points File. The Create/Edit Points Menu window opens (See Figure 6.10 on page 45). 4. Select Save. The Windows Explorer Save As window opens. 5. Choose a save location, enter a filename and select Save. The file is saved with a pts extension. The new calibration settings are saved and the Create/Edit Points Menu window opens. 6. Select the X icon. 51 Advanced Calibration Settings Deleting a Points File Delete points files when they have no further use. NOTE: Only a file that is loaded into memory can be deleted. To delete a points file: 1. Navigate to: Crystal Touch Manager Main window > Calibration. The Calibration window opens (See Figure 6.1 on page 38, Figure 6.2 on page 38). 2. Select Advanced. The Advanced Calibration window opens (See Figure 6.3 on page 39). 3. Select Create/Edit Points File. The Create/Edit Points Menu window opens (See Figure 6.10 on page 45). 4. Select Edit. The Windows Explorer Open window opens. 5. Select the Calibration Point File (pts extension) to be deleted and select Open. The calibration points are loaded and appear on the screen. 6. To clear configuration points: 1. Navigate to: Crystal Touch Manager Main window > Calibration. The Calibration window opens (See Figure 6.1 on page 38, Figure 6.2 on page 38). 2. Select Advanced. The Advanced Calibration window opens (See Figure 6.3 on page 39). 3. Select Create/Edit Points File. The Create/Edit Points Menu window opens (See Figure 6.10 on page 45). 4. Select Clear. The Clear Points Confirmation window opens. NOTE: To use the Clear option, there has to be a points file loaded or configured calibration points on the screen. To calibrate from a points file 1. Navigate to: Crystal Touch Manager Main window > Calibration. The Calibration window opens (See Figure 6.1 on page 38, Figure 6.2 on page 38). 2. Select Advanced. The Advanced Calibration window opens (See Figure 6.3 on page 39). 3. Select Calibrate from Points File. The Windows Explorer Open window opens. 4. Select a Calibration Points file (pts extension) and select Open. The calibration screen with the points for calibration opens. 5. Calibrate the touch screen (To calibrate the touch screen, see Calibrating the Touch Screen on page 29). Millimetric Calibration Millimetric Calibration for touch screens is the calibration of touch screens in millimeters. Calibrate touch screens using Millimetric Calibration in the following instances: Calibration for Region Layouts No Monitor is available The Monitor is smaller than the Touch Screen panel To perform millimetric calibration: 1. The X and Y offset represents an XY axis origin beginning at a point other than {0, 0} on the XY axis. 2. Map the calibration points on the Touch panel, by drawing points, provided in the Draw Points file, on or below the Touch panel with a millimetric ruler. Each point represents a calibration point.
