3 DEMO BOARD USER MANUAL 1 OVERVIEW The demo board is a specific development tool for touch key IC with integrated parameter calibration. The demo board is aimed to provide a complete development environment of touch key IC with ease of parameter adjustment, for user to learn and verify the application program and peripherals. The demo board can be connected to PC through Touch Nu-Bridge to run the Touch Utility (TK-Tool) software and adjust parameter calibration. This user manual explains how to use the demo board, connect and adjust TK-Tool, as well as software instructions to guide the user on how to develop touch key applications easily. 5 DEMO BOARD USER MANUAL 2 INTRODUCTION TO DEMO BOARD Figure 2 1 shows each function of the demo board, which will be described in the following section. ACT LED LED Output I 2 C LED SEL I 2 C Port Touch Power Figure 2 1 Demo Board Overview 2.1 System Description of Demo Board The demo board can be used to display and adjust the touch keys setting. The demo board is shown in Figure 2 1, and each of its functions is described below Power J3: Mini USB port for power supply connection use only. Aug 16, 2016 Page 5 of 15 Rev 1.00

6 DEMO BOARD USER MANUAL Touch SEL Square area 1~8: Eight touch-keys sense area J2: Functioned as GPIO output mode if connected or as I 2 C output mode if disconnected Output LED OUT1~OUT8: Select GPIO output mode of the touch key operation, 8 channels are effective. If user selects I 2 C output mode as the I 2 C control output, only OUT1~2, OUT4, OUT7~8 are effective., GND: When the demo board calibration is completed, use the demo board directly connected to power supply 2.4V~5.5V. There is no need to use the J3 Mini USB to supply power. D1~D8: When GPIO output mode is selected, pressing or releasing the corresponding key will affect the LED. If I 2 C output mode is selected, only ACT LED and I 2 C LED are effective ACT LED D3: If the corresponding touch key is pressed, the corresponding LED will be turned on (only if I 2 C output mode is selected) I 2 C LED D5~D6: I 2 C LED flashes during communication (only if I 2 C output mode is selected) I 2 C Port J1: Use Nu-Bridge to connect the demo board to PC to adjust the parameters. Before power supply, SEL needs to be selected as I 2 C output mode only. 2.2 Operation Instruction of Demo Board Connect the demo board to USB port using a USB cable. If user selects GPIO output mode, and touches the key, the corresponding LED will light on, indicating that the touch key display has been triggered. If user selects I 2 C output mode, and touches the key, ACT (D3) will light on, indicating that the touch key display has been triggered. When I 2 C output mode is selected, the Nu-Bridge uses I 2 C port connected to PC to run the Touch Utility (TK-Tool) software, which can display and adjust the touch key parameters. 7 DEMO BOARD USER MANUAL 3 USING DEMO BOARD AND TOUCH KEY UTILITY PARAMETER CALIBRATION 3.1 Connecting Demo Board to PC As shown in Figure 3 1, if I 2 C output mode is selected, the demo board can be connected to PC using the Nu-Bridge through I 2 C communication port to run Touch Utility software, on which user can adjust the parameters. Once connection is success, the USB indicator will show green color. If Nu-Bridge is connected to PC successfully, the USB color indicator will show green. 8 DEMO BOARD USER MANUAL If Nu-Bridge is connected to PC, but the demo board is not connected to Nu-Bridge, clicking the Connect button will display a warning message Writer is empty, please LOAD parameter file. Please check and fix the connection, close Touch Utility and open it again. 9 DEMO BOARD USER MANUAL 3.3 Touch Utility Tuning Parameter The main window for is shown in Figure 3 4. The Touch Utility is used to tuning parameters, read parameters, stored or loaded parameters to IC. The items in the main window are described as follows. Device Address: The default address is 0x60, including read/write 8-bit address. The device address could be changed by the I 2 C interface. When changing the device address, the latest device address must be used in the next read/write action. Product Number: Product code, which is only used for product identification and cannot be changed. Number of keys: The number of keys, which is only used for product identification and cannot be changed. Version Number: The version number, which is only used for product identification and cannot be changed. System Control: Used for system control. Reset: Used for software reset. Enable the option to reset the chip and restore it to default values. Auto Calibration: Enable the option to do automatic calibration in accordance with the calibration delay time set by Calibration Delay. Calibration Once: Enable the option to start the calibration process only once. Build: Enable the option to read sensor values and other parameters for testing and problem analysis. Disable the option to hide the operation independent parameters and to avoid the parameters being destroyed in operation. Output Mode: Output mode settings Multiple : Used for multiple keys output. Enable the option to output a plurality of keys at the same time. Toggle: Enable the option to access touch-key as switch ON/OFF function. Active High: Touch-key output will act as high active when enable this option. Water Lock: When the Water Lock is enabled, if there are two or more keys triggered simultaneously, all output will be locked and there is no output. Active Indicator: action indicator, which is consistent with the -ACT pin and action of bit 7 at I 2 C memory address 0x10. Button Change: status change indicator. When the button was pressing or releasing, the indicator will be turn on 60ms, which is consistent with the action of bit 6 at I 2 C memory address 0x ~ -8: status indicators. Turned on when the corresponding key is pressed, and turned off when the key is released. It is consistent with the action of I²C memory address 0x11. Click -1 ~ -8 to open the Sensor Waveform Window, as shown in Figure 3 5 which shows the waveform of instant sampling value for each touch-key sensor. The waveform is an excellent analysis tool with [Stop], [Save], [Load], and [Exit] buttons for saving and loading waveforms easily. Aug 16, 2016 Page 9 of 15 Rev 1.00

10 DEMO BOARD USER MANUAL Figure 3 5 Sensor Waveform Window Enable Sensor: Enable/disable a specific touch-key sensor. Special note: The following setting is for complicating situation used. Most of the conditions, user no need to change it. De-Bounce: The value is 1~7. Set this parameter to avoid key output bouncing. The key will react slower with less chance of bouncing if this value is set higher. Plus Times: The value is 15~127. The captures data will be more stable and key react slower if this value is set higher. For testing only. Reading Times: The value is 3~15. 11 DEMO BOARD USER MANUAL Calibration Delay: The value is 7~63. This field is available only when the Auto Calibration is enabled, which is used to set how often to do a calibration. Trigger Level: The value is 3~63. The trigger level of each touch-key sensor can be set individually to adjust sensitivity. Note: Higher sensitivity with lower stability also. LED-1: Fill in a hexadecimal value, and the LED of the corresponding bit will be turned on. Before supplying the power, select I 2 C output mode, by which user can enter a hexadecimal value, and only LED1 ~ 2, LED4, LED7 ~ 8 are effective. [Sensors]: Click this button to open the Sensors Data Viewer panel, which displays the instant touch-key sensor sampling value, as shown in Figure 3 6. 12 DEMO BOARD USER MANUAL [Load]: Click this button to load a parameter setting file. [Save]: Click this button to save parameter and options as setting file. [Update]: Click this button to write parameters to flash memory on the touch-key chip. When updating, the "USB" flashes red light. If updated correctly, the light will be changed to green; if there was yellow light, which indicates an update error. The user can update parameters again.
