2 1.1 Introduction INTRODUCTION Ultraframe Wall Lining System Ultrframe Wall Linings are used to correct more severe irregularities in dry masonry substrates. This system is typically used in commercial projects as it is fast to install and can easily accommodate electrical services and pipes. It also offers particular benefits in refurbishment projects where walls are out of alignment. This system can also allow air movement within the cavity and so minimises the risk of damp penetration. Independent Wall Lining System The Independent Wall Lining system is especially suited to lining reinforced concrete walls and steel framed walls. Fixed clear of the external wall, it allows space for services, or for high levels of thermal and acoustic insulation. It may also be used where the external wall has suffered damp ingress, but then treated with appropriate damp proofing systems. Direct Bond Wall Lining System Direct bonding of gypsum board provides a fast, efficient means of lining masonry substrate with minor irregularities and offers a dry solution calling for skills more easily acquired than traditional plastering. Ideal for use in house building, and smaller projects. With more than 0 years of use as a system in the UK it continues to provide a highly cost-effective means of lining masonry walls and complying with UK Building Regulations.

U-values differ according to density of brickwork, blockwork or mineral wool. To confirm details contact Technical Center. All calculations are in accordance with UK Building Building Regulations: Conservation of fuel and power, Approved Document L 2002 edition. The maximum heights given in these tables refer to the background construction. The Ulraframe Wall Lining system can be safely used up to a height of 6.5m.

6 1.5 ULTRAFRAME WALL LINING Introduction Ultraframe Wall Lining System Ultraframe Wall Lining is a completely dry system for lining walls with gypsum board. It is a simple, quick and cost-effective system suitable for many internal applications. As a wall lining Ultraframe Wall Lining is fixed directly to the existing background, allowing a cavity width between wall and gypsum board ranging from 0mm to 100mm. The system can therefore be used for all common lining applications: To allow for hidden services To provide high levels of thermal performance To provide high levels of acoustic performance To level out uneven substrates Can be fixed to wide range of backgrounds. Ultraframe Wall Lining Performance The system selected will depend on wall lining height and performance required for fire resistance and sound insulation, refer to performance tables on pages 58 and 59 Jointing All joints should be taped and jointed in accordance with Boral Gypsum India instructions. 8 1.7 Independent Wall Lining System INDEPENDENT WALL LINING Introduction Independent Wall Linings T M Independent Wall Lining systems combine the features of other metal systems to give high strength and quickly assembled linings. They are especially suited to lining reinforced concrete walls and steel framed walls. As they are fixed clear of the external wall they allow space for services, or for high levels of thermal and acoustic insulation within the cavity. They are also suited to renovation work where the existing wall may form an unsuitable substrate for other systems. The system uses I Studs, together with C Studs and U Tracks as used in the Metal Stud Partition systems. Mineral wool batts can be inserted into the framing to improve the thermal and acoustic performance of the system. I Stud for main run of wall lining C Studs at openings and wall lining ends. 9 1.8 Independent Wall Lining System INDEPENDENT WALL LINING Introduction Independent Wall Linings U Channel fixed at 610mm maximum centres. C Studs used at window/door openings I Studs for main run of wall lining spaced at 610mm maximum centres U Channels fixed to side C Studs at top and bottom to form openings Mineral wool to be inserted into framing using Insulation Hold Strip (if required) Install Insulation Hold Strip 150mm from top and at 1200mm vertical centres down the lining Minimum 10mm cavity to be maintained between insulation batts/quilt and external wall/cladding. U Channels fixed at 610mm centres (Use timber sole plate to underside of channel on uneven floors) Intumescent Acoustic Sealant applied around perimeter of wall lining gypsum boards are fixed using Gypsum Board Screws at 00mm centres. Perimeter of wall lining, door and window openings should be screw fixed at 200mm centres. Movement control joints Movement control joints are required in wall linings at intervals not exceeding 10 metres, and where the lining crosses or abuts a structural movement joint.

10 1.9 Direct Bond Wall Lining System DIRECT BOND WALL LINING Introduction Direct Bond Wall Lining System Direct Bond Wall Lining provides a fast, efficient means of lining masonry substrates to correct minor irregularities. This system is typically used in housing and apartment buildings, and other small projects. It offers a dryer solution for lining masonry walls and calls for installation skills more easily acquired than traditional plastering This system is quick to apply using Bonding Compound to bond up to 15mm thick Standard Board or FireBloc board onto masonry substrates. Limitations This method of fixing is not recommended for solid external walls subject to the ingress of moisture. If ingress cannot be fully eliminated, then use the Independent Wall Lining System or UltraClose Wall Lining System. MoistBloc or HeatBloc gypsum boards are not suitable for direct bond and should be mechanically screw fixed using Independent Wall Lining System or UltraClose Wall Lining System. The maximum installation height for direct bond should not exceed metres. Final cavity between masonry substrate and back of gypsum board can be: Minimum: 10mm Maximum: 0mm Jointing All joints should be taped and jointed in accordance with Boral Gypsum India instructions.

11 1.10 Direct Bond Wall Lining System DIRECT BOND WALL LINING Application Substrate pre-treatment Some types of masonry substrates may require abrasion or pre-treatment with an PVAC, see table 2.8 Easy Bond application Apply Easy Bond to the walls with vertical dabs at 610mm centres to the full height. Horizontal rows should be spaced as listed in table 2.7. Dabs should be 50 to 75mm wide, 250mm long, and 25mm in from the board edges to avoid bridging of joints by the compound. The contact area of the dabs must be at least 20% of the board area Certain floor/ceiling constructions can allow the circulation of air behind the boards and air may also enter at junctions with partitions and door/window frames. This circulation can reduce the thermal performance of the wall.to reduce this risk apply continuous horizontal and vertical bands of Easy Bond around electrical sockets, windows, wall perimeters, junctions and frames of linings to internal faces of external walls. A continuous band of Easy Bond at the floor line will ensure a solid base for skirting board fixing. Electrical cables should be protected by conduit.
