3 The AccuCut flash card wheel die set comes in two sizes: large (4" 5") and jumbo (8" 10"). The set consists of two wheels: an outer or top wheel, and an inner or bottom wheel. The outer wheel includes a window on one edge to show problems or questions, and a flap on the opposite edge to reveal answers. The inner wheel is divided into 10 sections by perforations. 1. A Variety of Math Topics Outer Wheel AccuCut Die: Inner Wheel Flash Card Set #2 (2-Die Set) Item # F1326 Cut inner and outer flash card wheels from two different colors of paper. Use light colors, since you will be writing questions and answers on the wheels. For most projects, use a brad to join wheels together in the center. Write the problem in the window, and the answer under the flap. Ideas 2. Sandwiching the Wheels To create a double-sided flash card wheel and double the number of problems, sandwich one inner wheel between two outer wheels. Write problems and answers on both sides. This will give students 20 problems to complete, not just 10. If all problems begin the same way (7 x 1, 7 x 2, etc.), you can write the beginning of the problem (7 x) near the window on the outer wheel, and the second part of the problem in the window (9). Use the flash card wheel to teach any age group many topics. Here are a few examples: Number and word matching Dots and numbers Addition/subtraction Multiplication/division Making change Telling time or elapsed time Fractions, or fractions to decimals Shapes/geometry Rounding Greater than/less than Measurement equivalents There are many other uses for a flash card wheel. 4 3. Questions & Answers To help two students test one another, sandwich the inner wheel between two outer wheels. Write a problem in the window on one side, and the solution in the window on the other side, instead of under the flap. One student sees the problem and the other sees the solution immediate feedback! Front 4. Color Coding of Wheels Back Use flash card wheels in different colors to color-code projects in centers by subject area. For example: yellowscience, green-math and blue-reading. When students finish their daily math work, allow them to pull a green flash card wheel from the green-math box to practice. Make storage boxes, or create labels from outer wheels as shown, in the same color as the wheels in that subject, so students know easily where to return wheels. Hint If flash cards are used only for math, color-code by unit. Unit 1 in the math curriculum might be yellow, Unit 2 blue, and so on. If you want to review material from a certain unit, you can go right to the proper color.
