This information package has all the details you need to ensure your son or daughter will have a top notch week at camp! - Caleb Mattatall Campers Handy Dandy Checklist... check off as you pack... sleeping bag (or blanket and sheets) pillow towel and wash cloth soap and shampoo socks shirts toothbrush and toothpaste pants and shorts underwear sweater (for cool nights) jacket rain coat Bible pen and notebook water bottle insect repellent sunscreen and hat flashlight and batteries outdoor running shoes shoes that you can get wet swimming suit (One-piece ONLY) camera (optional, but recommended!) respect for others good appetite cooperative attitude Please have MCP card upon arriving at camp. Please leave at home... cell phones, ipods, electronic games, entertainment and communication devices, pocket knives, valuable jewelry, and other expensive items. No outside food is permitted at camp due to severe food allergies (including candy, chips, granola bars, gum, soft drinks, energy drinks, etc.) Arrival and Pick up times: Payment: LIT: Sunday, 6:30pm - Wednesday, 6:30pm. Jr. Adventure: Sunday, 6:30pm - Wednesday, 6:30pm. Explore, Surge, Ignite: Sunday, 6:30pm - Friday, 6:30pm. Camp registration must be paid on or before the first day of camp. Fees can be payed in cash or by cheque addressed to West End Baptist Church.

2 Secrets to a Successful Camp Experience for Parents & Campers Everybody wants their child to have the best possible experience at camp! After getting to know hundreds of campers, Newfoundland Adventure Camp has discovered some secrets to help avoid separation anxiety, and to help make everyone s camping experience awesome. Step 1: Before leaving camp, make sure your child is settled in, say good-bye (just once), then leave. The longer and more emotional your good-bye is, the harder it will be on both of you. Step 2: Step 3: We do not encourage parental visits. It is natural to think that a visit will help your child, but children tend to get more homesick when parents are coming and going. We suggest that you do not tell your child that you will come to visit. They may spend most of their time thinking about and awaiting that visit. Even if your child can handle your visit, chances are seeing someone else s parents coming will make other campers feel lonely. Your child probably won t think about calling home. Campers are usually too busy playing games and having fun. If the thought of phoning home should arise, it is our policy to encourage the camper to focus on camp activities. We try to get their mind off home and back onto having fun at camp. Please do not plant the seed of homesickness by suggesting your child should phone home. Cabin leaders are trained to deal with homesickness. If problems persist then the cabin leader will bring the child to the director where he/she may phone home.

Step 4: Step 5: Step 6: Walk through the summer brochure and talk with your child about all the fun he/she will have at camp. Ask your child what he/she is most excited for and what he/she thinks will be the most fun. Discuss many of the camp activities with your child. Ensure your child has everything packed that he/she will need for the week. Consider the length of the camp session and pack accordingly. Remember to send sunscreen and bug repellent. Check your list...twice. It s a good idea to use a larger bag or suitcase because it will make it a little easier for campers to locate the item they re looking for and to keep their belongings together in reasonable order. It is normal to miss your child and secretly hope that they miss you while at camp. However, it is important to give your children space so that they may socialize independently and have the opportunity to develop interpersonal skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. As part of life s process, children eventually need to separate from their parents. Initially, this separation should be short, and as they age, for longer periods of time. This is part of growing up. Sometimes, parents come to pick up their children at the end of the week and appear almost disappointed when their child wants to stay at camp. Parents are often more homesick than their children. If this is the case, hide your pride... be happy when your child is able to handle a week away from home. Your Camper is going to have an awesome time at Camp. There are always exciting things to do and see. Your child will meet many new friends and will make memories that last a lifetime. There is never a dull moment at Newfoundland Adventure Camp!

4 General Information Food Services: We provide healthy food and plenty of it! Nutritious and delicious home-style meals are prepared daily and are usually served in cafeteria style. All campers and leaders eat in the dining hall together. We seek to meet any special dietary needs and do not serve nut products. Newfoundland Adventure Camp is an allergy aware facility. Please do not bring any food products to camp (including candy, chips, granola bars, gum, soft drinks, energy drinks, etc.) Cell Phone Policy: We do not allow campers to have cell phones with them at camp. If at anytime during camp there is an emergency and you need to contact your child, please call Caleb Mattatall, Camp Director, at (709) or Julia Macdonald, Assistant Camp Director, at (709) Cell phones can be left at home or kept in a locked box for the duration of the camp. **Please do not bring cell phones, ipods, electronic games, entertainment and communication devices, and other expensive items to camp. Important Health Note: Medication: All medications must be turned in upon arrival at camp. Campers are not permitted to keep any medications in their cabins (allowances are made for puffers and epi-pens). To ensure the best possible experience for all concerned, children must maintain their normal medication patterns while at camp. Prescription medications MUST either be in their original labeled container OR you may have your child s medication placed in a blister-pack at a pharmacy. Accommodations: All of our bunk rooms are located in our main building, which has heat and electricity. Our washrooms are equipped with hot water and showers and are located down the hall from the bunk rooms. Inappropriate Behaviour: Newfoundland Adventure Camp reserves the right to send campers home for inappropriate behaviour at the parent or guardian s expense. No refund will be provided if a camper is sent home. The safety and security of our campers is always our highest priority. Behaviour Expectations: Campers are expected to treat one another respectfully (no put downs or rough horse play). Newfoundland Adventure Camp strives to resolve behavioural problems with campers promptly and effectively but reserves the right to dismiss a camper for behavioural problems at the discretion of the Director. No refund will be made for dismissals due to disciplinary action. Parents will be responsible to provide transportation for a camper who has been asked to leave camp due to behavioural problems.
