2 01 A warm Welcome Kaiserslautern is a city full of history: Emperor Barbarossa had his Imperial Palace (Kaiserpfalz) erected here, The Huntsman from the Electoral Palatinate lived here; Napoleon even had breakfast here, once... Many of the sights in Kaiserslautern are only accessible on guided tours; others could be visited on your own, but without the interesting background information offered on our tours. Whatever you would like - a visit to the former Casimir Castle including the subterranean passages dating from the Hohenstaufen period, a tour of the famous soccer stadium, or a city bus tour - the tourist information office in Kaiserslautern arranges guided tours for groups all year round. Our tour guides will enjoy sharing their expertise with you. If you need a bus for a city tour, we ll be glad to assist you. The price for the bus rental depends on the time, location, and group size. 1

The maximum number per tour is limited to 25 so that all participants can enjoy the tour to the fullest. For groups larger than 25, we will arrange for a second tour guide. Please inform us three days in advance about changes as well as cancellations. Cancellations received later than three days prior to the tour will be charged the full amount. Your tour guide will wait for a maximum of 30 minutes past the scheduled appointment. On Sundays and German public holidays there is a surcharge of EUR. The listed prices include the current VAT of 19 %.

5 City bus tours 04 How has Kaiserslautern changed from an industrial town to Silicon Woods, and why does a fish decorate the coat of arms? Which role do the Americans play in the city s past and present? These and many more interesting questions will be answered during the tour of the city. The bus takes you from downtown to the surrounding areas, and the PRE-park, with a view of the university as well as of the Fritz Walter Stadium. 6 05 Count Palatinate hall The tour starts in the Count Palatinate Hall of the former Casimir Castle, where official receptions of the city are held today. Afterwards you descend into the subterranean tunnels, dating from the period of the Hohenstaufen dynasty. These passages, which are approx. 70m long, are equipped with information boards as well as a light and sound program that effectively illustrates the history of Kaiserslautern. 7 Guided historical city walk 06 The tour starts with a visit of the Count Palatinate Hall in the former Casimir Castle and to the underground passages. Afterwards, your city guide will lead you to the 'Schillerplatz' as well as to the Collegiate Church, considered the most significant late Gothic hall church in southwestern Germany. Next, you ll walk through the old part of town and visit the Theodor Zink Museum. The city walk ends at the Emperor s Fountain, which shows representations of historical and present-day Kaiserslautern in a light-hearted way. 8 07 K town for Kids Where did the skeleton in the underground passage come from? What s a fish doing in the coat of arms? And why are there elephants in the Emperor s Fountain? The answers, a little treat, and much more will be revealed on the tour, Kaiserslautern for Kids, which is designed for children between seven and ten. 9 Fritz Walter Stadium 08 Have you always dreamed of walking through the players tunnel like a professional player, or taking a seat on the coach s bench? 10 09 Hohenecken Castle A walk up to the Hohenecken Castle is exciting: not only to enjoy the panoramic view over the Palatinate Forest, but also to explore the castle from the Hohenstaufen period. It was built out of the local red sandstone in the 12th century and then destroyed in Come and hear the tales of the buried treasure or Maid Hildegard of Hoheneck. Discover the uses of the various chambers with many details from life in the Middle Ages.
