Prayer Stations - Prayers for Cambodia

1 ALWS These prayer stations can be used as a class or a whole school focus. They are designed to be set up as a rotating session where students are free to go to each station, pray the prayer displayed and then make something to be included in the display. The visual effect grows as the students progress through each station. In the collection of photos of Cambodia on the website, you may also wish to print out some of the photos that are relevant to each station and display them as well. The information sheets may also be used o provide the background information needed in order for students to understand the importance of each station. Prayer station 1 Cambodians living in poverty. Prayer station 2 A variety of healthy foods. You have created the people of Cambodia to be so gentle and giving, yet so many of them suffer and live in extreme poverty. It is difficult for them to provide for even the basic needs of shelter, clothes and food for their families. We ask today that you would be with the people who don t have a secure home or enough clothes to wear. Help us to find ways of supporting the people of Cambodia to help them have enough of these needs. In your name we pray, Provide a collection of sticks, bark and leaves in a box for the students to share. Over the top of a basic structure, (Build a shape of a hut out of chicken wire or use a shoe box), students to add a stick or leaf, leaning it against a wall or laying it on the roof. As the students progress through the stations and things are added, a house will be built. Thank you that you have created such an abundance and variety of healthy foods. Here in Australia we enjoy all of this along with not having to worry about the food we are going to eat each day. Thank you for this blessing. Lord you know that there are people in Cambodia, especially children, that do not have enough food or variety of food. This affects them in so many ways: sickness, feeling weak, can t play, can t go to school. We ask today Lord that you would take care of the people in Cambodia who don t have enough food. Allow their business to go well so they have an income. Bless their crops and kitchen gardens so that it can supply all the food their families will need, plus more. Thank you for loving and caring for these beautiful people. We pray in your name, Provide magazine pictures for the students. Students to choose a picture and glue to a small piece of paper. Write a thank you prayer underneath. Add to the display.

2 ALWS Prayer Station 3 Clean, safe water Thank you Father for the clean water we have to drink every day. Thank you that it is free from bacteria that could cause illness and that we have so much of it here. So many people in Cambodia suffer a great deal, particularly children because they must drink water from creeks or other unsafe sources. So many people need to walk so far away from their homes just to collect it and then carry it back. We pray Lord that the people working in Cambodia would continue to use the money and resources to help improve the drinking water in rural Cambodian communities. Thank you that through donations, ALWS have been able to supply water filters, wells and pumps so that people can have a healthier life through clean drinking water. Help us to continue to support the people of Cambodia in this way. We pray in Jesus name, Display 2 containers of water. Also have a tub of dirt, mouldy leaves, sticks, washing detergent, and plastic teaspoons. One container of water stays clean. After students have read the prayer add either a spoonful of dirt, some leaves or sticks or a small squeeze of detergent. Explain to students that this is how water becomes polluted and can cause so much sickness. Prayer station 4 Toilets and sanitation Thank you for the knowledge and resources that we have to live a healthy and happy life. Simple things like toilets and knowing to wash hands is so important yet so many people have just not had the chance to learn this. Please help the education of hygiene and sanitation to keep being taught in communities and schools who have not yet heard this. Thank you for the many, many lives that have been saved through this education and in the providing of safe toilets to use. Please protect the children who are at the moment sick due to disease spread from no sanitation. Help their families to learn how to care for them and that they can have access to some care if they need it. Help the workers in Cambodia to care for these sick in rural communities. Thank you Father, Have some A3 size photos of soap and long drop loos (found on the website in the collection of photos) cut up into sections. Maybe pieces for each picture. Already have some sections placed appropriately as the beginning of a jigsaw, pinned on a pinup board. (Alternatively they could be glued onto a sheet). See if each student can place one piece of the puzzle before moving on. Ensure that there are enough pictures/ puzzle pieces available for the amount of students that will be involved.

3 ALWS Prayer Station 5 Education for all Thank you for our wonderful school and for the teachers who teach us so well and care for us each day. We are so blessed to be able to equipped for our lives through our learning. We know that in Cambodia so many people don't have the chance to learn and attend school. We thank you for the teachers already in the Cambodian schools that work so hard, for the buildings that have been provided and the resources that have helped some Cambodian children. We ask Father that you would continue to help the education system in Cambodia, that education would be available to all. Keep the teachers and students healthy so they can teach and attend school. Help the money that has been raised through people in Australia to go where it is needed most. Thank you for the precious gift of knowledge. Have some samples of Cambodian writing displayed. On black paper with white chalk pastel, have children attempt some Cambodian writing and then add to the display. Prayer station 6 Animal Banks Thank you for amazing imagination in creating so many different animals. We appreciate the way that these animals can not only bring us enjoyment, but can help us in so many other ways. We thank you that animals such as chickens and pigs can help families to raise some income for their families. Please keep these animals that are in the animal banks in Cambodia healthy. Help the families have enough scraps to feed them as they grow. Thank you for all of the animal banks that are in remote communities and the way they help families. Please continue to use the money provided for this to benefit as many families as possible. We pray in your name, Using the outlines provided at the end of this document, have students add a pipe cleaner tail or feathers to the pigs and chickens and add to the display. Have a painted outline of an enclosure to place the animals in for the display. Prayer Station 7 Rice Banks Thank you Lord that rice is such an important crop for the Cambodian people. Thank you that so many have access to growing this grain to provide for their families. Rice banks have been a wonderful help to families in communities in Cambodia if their crops have failed or if they have not had enough food. Help all Cambodians to have access to these rice banks to improve the food security and health for their families. Bless the rice crops that are growing right now Lord, So that there is an abundance of rice where there has not been before. Thank you Lord, Every grain of rice is planted separately in a rice paddy. Have a container of damp soil and a container of rice. Have each student plant a grain of rice.

4 ALWS Prayer station 8 Medical Care Prayer Station 9 Helping Hands Thank you so much for the access to health care we have here in Australia. We are very blessed to have a government that puts such great importance on providing this for us. We also thank you that in some areas, health care has improved so much for the people of Cambodia. We continue to pray that the money that is raised here in Australia so generously, is used to benefit as many people as possible. We pray for healing for those adults and children who are at the moment too sick to get to health care or can t afford it. Please take special care of them. We pay in your name, Amen Thank you for every blessing you have given us. We pray that you would use us in some way to be a blessing to other people. Help us to see and learn of a ways that we can help not only the people of Cambodia but also people right here in our own families, school and community. Please show us ways and use us to help other people. Thank you Lord, Amen Inside the outline of a health post, have students write a short sentence prayer about the health situation in Cambodia. Students to trace around their hands on coloured paper and cut out. Write or draw ways that they can help other people. Add to the display in a long chain of linked hands showing that we can work together to do this.
