1 Pack Leaders Packet October 2-4, 2015 Camp Kikthawenund The Order of the Arrow Quanasita Chapter is proud to be host of the Del-Mi Star Wars Webelos Encampment. This event is planned, organized, conducted and hosted for Del-Mi Webelos Scouts by the Arrowmen of the Quanasita Chapter of the Order of the Arrow. 1

2 October 2-4, 2015 Camp Kikthawenund PURPOSE The purpose of this event is to provide Webelos Scouts with a Boy Scout style campout experience and for the Webelos Scouts to have FUN! Star Wars Encampment is a weekend campout modeled after Boy Scout camporees. A Camporee is an event where troops come together and Boy Scouts spend a day going through fun activities and stations. Some activities are Scout skills, some activities are silly games or activities, and some activities are team challenges. PAYOFF The payoff for the Webelos Scouts who attend is to have a great weekend outdoors in the woods; to experience a Boy Scout style camporee event; to have the opportunity to knock off some Webelos and Arrow of Light requirements and to spend the weekend with a great group of Boy Scouts being Boy Scouts. PROGRAM The program for the Star Wars Webelos Encampment will include: The opportunity to campout on Friday and Saturday nights in patrols and packs. During the day on Saturday Webelos Patrols/Packs will participate in stations with hands on activities. Webelos in patrols or as a pack will visit stations in Round Robin format. There will be presentations to the Webelos by the Boy Scouts on the Order of the Arrow. There will be a campsite judging competition held Saturday afternoon. Criteria are included in this packet. Campfire Program Saturday night. Scouts Own (A Scout is Reverent) Sunday morning. Awards Presentation Sunday morning. FEE FOR STAR WARS ENCAMPMENT The fee for the Star Wars Webelos Encampment is $10.00 per person. This is $10.00 for Webelos Scouts, for adult pack leaders and parents and for Arrowmen staffing the event. However, because many families may be financially challenged we want all Pack leaders to know that we do not want any Webelos or parent left at home because of their personal economic situation. Contact Kevin Aldrich, Quanasita Adviser, for fees to be waived. 2

3 The following page is a onepage flyer for you to copy and pass out to your pack, Webelos leaders and parents. 3

Specific campsite requests are not honored. No adults or Webelos will be allowed in campsite until the Pack Encampment Leader has completed check-in with the Encampment office. Information on Special Needs for a Pack should be in the online registration. No pack will be allowed to select or set up their campsite before the Encampment Office opens and assigns campsite to pack. Campfires are only allowed in the fire ring and packs may be sharing the fire ring with 2 or 3 other packs. YOUTH PROTECTION BSA Youth protection rules are in effect for Encampment. Refer to the Guide to Safe Scouting. 10 STAR WARS COSTUMES Webelos Scouts are expected to dress up or costume as their favorite Star Wars hero, villain or character or to create their own Star Wars character costume appropriately. Parents and Pack Leaders are strongly encouraged to set the example and also costume We strongly encourage you to get some parents in your pack or den to volunteer to help the Webelos Scouts make costumes for the Webelos and decorations for your campsite. This would be great den or pack activities. WILL TENTS BE PROVIDED IN CAMPSITES? No, families and packs need to provide their own tents. WILL LANTERNS BE PROVIDED IN CAMPSITES? No, packs will need to provide their own lanterns. MAY WE SET UP OUR CAMPSITE IN THE AFTERNOON BEFORE IT IS DARK? No, you cannot set up your campsite before you check-in and register in the Encampment Office. Check-in does not start before 6:30 p.m. WILL WE HAVE OUR OWN CAMPSITE? Probably not, you will probably share your campsite with 1 or more other Packs. It will depend on the size of your pack. MAY WE SELECT OUR OWN CAMPSITE? No, campsites will be assigned based on size and special needs. WHERE DO WE GET WATER? Each campsite has water. This water is tested and is absolutely safe to drink. Do not send Webelos to the dining hall for water. The dining hall water is the same water, from the same well, pumped by the same pump as the water in the campsites. ARE MEALS PROVIDED? No, you provide and cook your own meals. Please refer to the Grubmaster Appendix, for ideas on simple but fun camp cooking. WHAT ABOUT DOWN TIME? There is no down time scheduled except a two hour lunch on Saturday and a two hour Supper on Saturday. However, there is no requirement for you and your Webelos to go to all the stations. If your Webelos need some down time, then take a break. Let them play. We have found that the busier young boys are the less they need downtime. BUGS & INSECTS There are going to be bugs. Aerosol cans are not allowed in Boy Scouts. Be sure to bring some non-aerosol bug spray. WHAT GEAR DO I NEED? Refer to the Recommended Gear & Equipment List Appendix. 10

11 MAY WE HAVE CAMPFIRES? That depends on current Fire Bans and the Camp Ranger has the final say. If we are allowed fires they should be small and MAY ONLY BE IN FIRE RINGS. A campfire may NEVER be left unattended. If you leave your campsite, you must put out the fire completely. Fires may not be left burning at night when you go to bed; they must be put out completely. A bucket or two of water must always be available at a campfire. If there is more than one pack in your campsite, then you have to share the fire ring. MAY WE COOK ON FIRES? It is not recommended, campfire cooking takes a long time and the Encampment schedule will make it difficult. Only if you have a campsite alone and do not share the campsite or fire ring with other packs. However, roasting a hot dog on a stick would be fun, easy and tasty. If you share your campsite with another pack, then do not dominate the fire ring by cooking 11
