Team 2658 Pedestrian, is the FIRST Robotics Team from Rancho Bernardo High School that participates in competitions and community service. FIRST - For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology - is an organization that promotes teamwork and collaboration amongst aspiring engineers. This program encourages students to explore science and technology through interaction in the community and robotics competitions. Each year we are given six weeks to design, fabricate and program a robot that undertakes specific challenges. However, in order to participate in this event, we require sizable funding for materials, competition registration, software, team apparel, and transportation. For these resources and funds, we rely on magnanimous corporate sponsors. On behalf of Team 2658, I would like to kindly ask your corporation for financial support. Through sponsorships and grants from companies such as Company our robotics team is given the opportunity to take part in this competition and spread FIRST principles throughout the community. We will not only use this funding for team expenses, but also for educating elementary and middle school children, conducting workshops and demonstrations, and mentoring other local FIRST teams. By donating, your company will be promoted on our robot and T-shirts to display your support towards our team and this program. In the past two years, we have reached the quarterfinals in our regional competition and have also attended the world s championship in St. Louis. With these experiences, we will be able to advance further than ever before and explore new possibilities through this funding. Due to our limited resources, we require community support and additional funding which will allow us to participate and improve in this prestigious competition. This exchange of talents between schools and the community is crucial for our team s success. 3 Building Future Scientists and Engineers We are The Pedestrians, Team number 2658 from Rancho Bernardo High School, San Diego, California. We are a high school robotics team that competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition. Founded by Dean Kamen in 1989, FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, is an organization designed to help spread the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Its mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, leadership, and communication. The STEM fields are important for students to learn now in order to obtain a job when they get older. The jobs that have the highest employment rate involve these branches of education. FIRST has established four different competitions to meet the level of knowledge established throughout all school years until the students reach college. The four sub-competitions include Jr. FLL, FLL, FTC, and FRC. FRC, or the FIRST Robotics Competition, is for children grades 9-12 and is the most advanced FIRST competition. For more information visit FRC #2658 About the Team We have been a FIRST Robotics team for seven years, and are continuing into our eighth. We began under the leadership of Jeff Bush and Richard Lin in the school year with a small team of students eager to participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition and spark interest in STEM fields in their school. Over the past few years we have built a total of seven robots, solely for FIRST competitions. We have competed in multiple FIRST competitions including Battle at the Border, San Diego Regional, Las Vegas Regional, Inland Empire Regional and Del Mar Fair. In the 2014 San Diego Regional, we were selected for the first time into the elimination matches, ranking higher than we have ever been before. 4 We Seek to Build a Stronger Community Our team is dedicated to providing our community with events that can inspire kids and adults of all ages: For the past several years, Team 2658 has visited various elementary schools to expand the values of FIRST. We have participated in a number of events such as Shoal Creek and West Wood Elementary School Science Night where showcase our robots and teach elementary schools engineering concepts. We have been to the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering where we took both of our robots. It was great to see all these kids looking up at the robot with excitement; we showcased some of our matches from our FRC tournaments. People were able to watch the videos as well as live demonstrations. We have had the opportunity to participate in the Del Mar Fair where we lots of technical issues. We have also been to several community events including RB Alive, STEAM Maker Faire, and many more. We have helped FLL and FTC teams as well as other FRC teams in our community by teaching them the engineering process and providing them with resources they may not have With your support, we can expand science and engineering to larger society. We Need You Team 2658 has big goals for the future. To make our endeavors possible, we need your support. As a high school team, we rely on the support of the community to provide us with the tools necessary to spread STEM and FIRST throughout our community. All of the successes we have had in the past and will continue to have in the future are due to our generous sponsors, who understand and believe that supporting robotics for high school students is a fruitful investment that nurtures the next generation of scientists and engineers.
