FEDEX FREIGHT, INC., is the North American market leader in providing less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services across all lengths of haul. The FedEx 2015 annual report indicates that the FedEx Freight segment had revenues of $6.2 billion and operating income of $484 million. FEDEX CORPORATION (NYSE: FDX), the tenant s parent, provides customers and businesses worldwide with the broadest portfolio of transportation, logistics and e-commerce services. FedEx Corporation does not guarantee the tenant s lease obligations. Bloomingdale is located approximately miles west of Savannah, 110 miles southwest of Charleston, SC, 115 miles south of Augusta, 137 miles north of Jacksonville, FL, and 237 miles southeast of Atlanta. Bloomingdale is located in the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Savannah MSA has a population of 372,708. It is the third most populous MSA in Georgia and one of the fastest-growing metros areas in the state. Economy The Savannah MSA has a dynamic economy that is driven by the vibrant Port of Savannah and a robust manufacturing sector. Before we discuss these two segments, we would like to highlight the transportation advantages of the Savannah area. Strategic Transportation / Distribution Advantages Savannah is located at the crossroads of Interstate and Interstate. I- connects with Interstate 75 in Macon which provided access to Atlanta. I- is the primary U.S. interstate running the length of the East Coast from northern Maine to Miami. Port of Savannah is the closest seaport to Atlanta which is the largest distribution hub the in the Southeast. 70 percent of the United States population can be reached within a two-day drive of Savannah. This is advantageous for FedEx Freight since it offers a popular service to ship items weighing more than 150 lbs. as fast as possible throughout the U.S. The Ports volume will grow faster after completion of the Panama Canal expansion projection 20. Port of Savannah Savannah is home to the Port of Savannah, the largest single-terminal container facility of its kind in North America. Operated by the Georgia Ports Authority and specializing in breakbulk, containers, RoRo, heavylift and project cargo, the port is comprised of two modern, deepwater terminals: Ocean Terminal and Garden City Terminal. The Port of Savannah is the fastest-growing in the U.S. and fourth-largest port in the nation, with more than 70 percent of the population reachable within a two-day drive. In fiscal year 2014, the Georgia Ports Authority moved more than 29 million tons of cargo, three million 20-foot equivalent containers and more than 700,000 auto and machinery units. This project is intended to double the capacity of the Panama Canal by creating a new lane of traffic and allowing more and larger ships, three times the current permissible size, to transit. The new lane will give importers and exporters doing business between the Pacific Rim and the U.S. Midwest and East Coast the option to ship directly to Gulf and East Coast ports rather than being forced to ship through West Coast ports which have tough and expensive unions. The Port of Savannah will be one of the recipients of this new trade volume. Manufacturing The Savannah area has a diverse mix of manufacturers. Here are a few examples. Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation - premier manufacturer in business jet aircraft worldwide (10,126 employees). Gulfstream is in the middle of a $500 million expansion, our second one in less than 10 years. We opted to expand here for several reasons: great transportation infrastructure; proximity to the airport; great flying weather and a strong economic development support system thanks to the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, the City of Savannah, the State of Georgia and SEDA. -Larry Flynn, President, Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation International Paper Company - the largest producer of printer and copier paper, envelopes, corrugated packaging and shipping containers, consumer packaging for cosmetics, home entertainment and other retail markets, and food service packaging (600 employees). 14 Other Transportation Rail The Savannah Port Terminal Railroad (SAPT) is an 18- mile short line freight railroad serving the Georgia Port Authority and interchanging with CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern. SAPT is the second-busiest U.S. container exporter and handles 40% of the U.S. containerized poultry exports. Air Service to and from Savannah is provided by Savannah/ Hilton Head International Airport (SAV), located off of Interstate approximately 7 miles northwest of Savannah. Armstrong offers undergraduate and graduate degrees; it has a student enrollment of approximately 7,600 students, including close to 1,000 graduate students. Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD), a private, nonprofit university with locations in Savannah and Atlanta, GA, Hong Kong and France. The university enrolls more than 11,000 students from across the United States and around the world with international students comprising up to 14 percent of the student population. Savannah State University, a four-year, state-supported university. Savannah State operates three colleges.
