2 Register at the Pool on June 6th, 6-7pm* Aquat- Swimming Lessons Parent & Child- Infant introduction to water. Parent/Guardian will enjoy helping their young one acclimatize to a lifetime of being comfortable in the water. Participants start in the wading pool before moving into the main pool with fun, instructional activities to share. Pre-Kindergarten Children increase their confidence in the water as we teach them the basic skills of facial submersion, bobbing, front/back floats, jumping in and pool safety. Parents should be ready to assist, if needed. Level I- Shallow water only. Fully submerge face, 3 seconds. Bob in chest-deep water. Supported front and back float. Enter/exit water independently, with permission. Walking 5 yards through chest-deep water. Supported kicking, front and back. Level II- Hold breath and submerge head. Retrieve sunken objects from chest-deep water. Introduction to deep water. Unsupported front and back glide. Rythmic breathing. Step from side into chest-deep water. Flutter kick, front and back. Finning on back. Back crawl arm action. Combined arm and leg motion, front and back. Turning over, front to back and back to front. Float unassisted with flotation device. Level III- Retrieve sunken object, eyes open, chest-deep water. Bob in water slightly over head. Jump into deep water. Dive from side of pool from kneeling position. Front and back glide with push-off. Coordinate front and back crawl, motion and breathing. Introduction to rotary breathing. Elementary backstroke. Reverse direction while swimming, front and back. Tread water. Introduction to basic water rescue, CPR and rescue breathing. Level IV- Deep water bobbing. Rotary breathing. Dive from standing position. 10 yards of elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly. 25 yards of front and back crawl. Flip turning at wall. Tread water, 2 minutes. Pike and surface dive. Reaching assists. Rescue breathing, CPR introduction and overview. General Aquatics- All stroke proficiency; 25 yards of each; breast, back, side, front crawl Standing dive from side. Treading water. Underwater swimming. Competitive swimming fundamentals. Aquatic sports introduction. Basic boating safety; canoe/ kayak. Aquatic rescue techniques. Spinal injury first aid, rescue breathing, CPR. *You may sign up for lessons at the pool on June 6th, 6pm, or anytime after the pool opens. 2
3 Waterbury Rapids Aquatics Swim Team Swim Meets: pm 6:15pm Practices Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri June 23 thru August 1 June 26, July 3, July 10, July 17, July 24 (rain), July 26 $50/swimmer, $85 for two or more in same family & must hold a pool membership. (Pg. 5) Register at the Pool on June 6th, 6-7pm after obtaining a pool membership. The Waterbury Rapids compete in the Green Mountain Swim League of the Vermont Swim Association. It is a parent-run team with an emphasis on fun and individual improvement in the water. Swimmers, who range from age 5 to 19, have to be able to swim a length of the pool. Junior Lifeguarding pm 4pm June 30th thru July 3rd $100 Min. 8 / Max. 20 Activity # PE Designed for those who are ready to start training for lifeguarding, but not quite old enough (15 years old) to receive their certification. The Waterbury Pool Director and Recreation Director combine their 30 years of lifesaving experience to prepare you for the best summers of your life! Skills taught will include conscious and unconscious victim recognition/assistance and emergency first aid. 3
4 Aqu Adult Swim Lessons, private 15 & Up (Beginner) By Appointment By Appointment $30/hour 1:1 instruction. Private Lesson Activity # PL Our private lessons, conducted when the pool is closed, cater to a variety of adult swimming abilities, including those looking to overcome water phobia or basics like learning to swim/tread. Transform a head-up breaststroke into a stylish front crawl or work on advanced techniques such as flip turns. Simply put, swimming is the best exercise and we want to get you in the water! Introduction to Kayaking pm 4pm August 18th & August 19th $100 Min. 8 / Max. 12 & Waterbury Reservoir Activity # PE Get comfortable on the water! Enjoy our 2-day clinic that starts with confidencebuilding instruction in the town swimming pool before taking to the beautiful open waters of the Waterbury Reservoir. All equipment provided, except the required helmets for pool training. NO transportation to the Reservoir provided. 4
5 Aqu Diving am 11am July 17th & 18th Activity # PE $40 Min. 5 / Max. 15 We ll practice diving to perfection. Starting with graceful entries from the deck, to racer starts off the blocks, to spring board stunt diving, we will catch a lot of air! Prerequisite: standing dive from side of pool. Lifeguard Olympics Date: Team Size: 15 & Up 4pm 9pm July 16th $120/team 4 Certified Lifeguards Activity # PE We will be hosting the Lifeguards of Vermont in a competition measuring their lifesaving skills in & out of the water. They will race, demonstrate their skills and prove their lifeguarding prowess to take home the coveted trophy in this 1st Annual fundraising event.
